Couch Kev Causes A Rumpus - Saturday 1st April

Mon, 10/04/2006 - 6:35am

April Fools Day, and, coincidentally, Rhow's birthday.

Forum is in great heart and mood, with one or two April Fools' thread. But the Colchester Kev Sponsored Railbird thing has everyone guessing - is it, or isn't it? I actually get 8 PM's - EIGHT - asking me if it's a wind-up!

The little SNG's on blonde are proving immensely popular and great fun. Jen and snoops joined in on Friday night, and we all had a hoot. It's something else to watch Couch and IFM insult each other hammer and tongs, worth playing just to watch them two get it on. Jen is very quick-witted too, you just gotta get on the chat box and watch these guys frolic.

I play the big Laddies comp - $1,000 - and run well for a while, before sliding out in the later stages after a good early effort. Tom (RED-DOG) always reminds me of what comps he thinks I may be interersted in, and marks my card as to 'hot' players to watch out for. He's a truly great friend.

I also played the Laddies 85 runner $200 Omaha, but that one needs a health - or even wealth - warning, early on, nobody passes, it's 8 way family pots & rebuys galore. A mistake to play it, I surmise, as I pretty much sit out, and barely win a hand in 2 hours, while all the nutters go rebuy crazy. But post-freeze, the game suddenly changes, raises are respected, and now we play properly. Short-stacked all comp, I end up in the final, get two double-ups, steal plenty of pots, and I'm in good shape with 9 left. But, typically with Omaha, I clash with the chip leader, I have a big hand, he has nothing really, and somehow his two 'danglers' river the wheel, and I'm gone, 9th and $750 for my troubles. Omaha Rebuys are just not fair - the deep-pocketed maniacs definitely have an unfair advantage, and in my view, all Omaha Tourneys should be Freezeouts.

There was a WSOP Satellite on Blue Square, Couch rings and reminds me, 54 runners I think, and I am in lovely shape with around 20 left when the "crunch" hand comes. I used to 'duck' these confrontations, but not any more. Way above average, I raise it up with TT, and the massive chip leader goes all-in. I can absolutely guarantee I know his hand - it's bizarre how transparently folks play AK online! I don't avoid these opportunities any more, I'm favourite, and if I lose, I lose, if I win, in this case, I'm almost certainly in the WSOP. I insta-call, yup, he's got AK, it's all raggy taggy cards until the K rivers. Oh well, the WSOP will manage without me.....

Ah well, another week has flown past. I'm still behind with most of my jobs, I just don't know what to do to get up to date, and I'm in deep poo with all sorts of folks who are pissed off with me for not getting stuff sorted. But I won't stop playing online and live to do it, I am determined not to let work rule my life. It did for 40 years, but not any more....

Next week will be frantic, too. Luton Fessie - I adore Luton Fessies - but committments mean I can only play Monday and Thursday. Saturday's Main Event looks doubtful for me now, too, as snoops won't be available, so it looks like the updater's hat for the first time in ages. But I'm cool with that - if Jen will have me - because it's fun just to be among poker people at big events. That's the buzz! Wednesday will be busy, too, recording 425 in the afternoon, attending the first blonde MasterClass at 7pm, and my PNL phone-in at 9pm. What would my Dad have thought?
