Hand Of The Week

Well, hand of last week really. In fact, there are three of them, so I guess the headline should be...

'Hands Of Last Week'

... but that's not very catchy.

Ah well.

Anyhow, Blackpool Bonanaza, Main Event (named the Blackpool Championship, I believe). 3 interesting hands, not because of the way they were played, but more due to what hit the board.

Hand 1

Ridiculous All-In Blind Treble-Up:

A short stacked Des Jonas moved all-in when it folded to him on the cutoff. The small blind (even shorter) called all-in, and the big blind - Rob Yong - came along for the ride. On their backs!

Des found he'd moved in with the monstrous two hearts
Small blind:
Rob Yong:  three diamonds

The only pair anyone could manage was with the two of spades and so Des was back in the game, having eliminated one player and beaten the semi-invincible Rob.

Hand 2

How about this for a hand?? Amazing stuff.

2 players moved all-in.

Joe Grech (left) ducked out of the way with his pocket sevens, whilst Martyn Cavanagh mucked tens.

The two players involved were Carl Thomas and Gareth 'The Nugget' Jones.

Carl had nines, and Gareth had kings.

So, we've got kings vesus nines, with sevens and tens mucked.

Therefore, with this being the bizarre world of poker, the board could only be something like...

three diamonds

Gareth took a massive pot with trip kings over Carl's trip nines. But Joe would have been the biggest winner with quads on the river.

Blimey.

As Jimmy Greaves once said...

"It's a funny ol' game."

Hand 3

At one point in the comp, Henning Granstad (right) was absolutely furious, steam literally (well, not quite) coming out of his ears.

Shortstack Chris Johnson ended up all-in with 9-7 against Henning's 8-7 suited.

The dealer started dealing the flop...

First card Jack, second card Nine... then she accidentally burnt a card and dealt a Ten (giving Henning a flopped straight, but dealing a card that should have been the actual burn card).

Iwan Jones spotted the mistake, and halted the dealer.

The dealer rectified her error and dealt out the following board...

J-9-5-8-A... with the ten being the burn.

Chris won the pot with a pair of nines, but Henning was left throwing down his head-phones in complete disgust at the dealer's faux pas.

"Are you effing kidding me?!" he exclaimed. "I can't believe these mistakes are being made with this amount of money at stake."

Not a happy chappy.

In fact, he temporarily visited Tiltville.
