Poker Director, Simon Trumper, explained the reasons behind the changes:

“Over the last 6 weeks, I have spoken with many of our regular evening tournament players to find out what they want. There has been a big focus on weekend events since the club has opened, but I felt it was time to review our evening schedule and give more value and a better poker experience to our evening players. The feedback was overwhelming. Nearly all players wanted earlier start times and more importantly, earlier finish times, so that they could come to the club more regularly. If they do make a final table, they’d still be able to get a good night sleep before work in the morning. With most of our current evening comps finishing between 2am and 4am, we needed to make some changes. Inevitably, players also wanted bigger prize pools, but with out increasing buy-ins, and many requests for a simple and stable evening schedule that everyone could get used to, were also voiced.

After much discussion, we have decided to take the risk of putting a £5K / 100 runner guarantee on all of our senior comps, and simplify the buy-in to £50. We will also run a junior £15 freezeout tournament alongside, guaranteed at £750 / 50 runners. This gives our experienced players the chance to win an estimated £1,750 first prize (in the £50 FO) and we expect this comp to done and dusted by 1am, lasting around 5.5 hours. The junior £15 comp will also finish at a more sociable time, around 11.30pm, lasting around 4.5 hours.

Even though most of our evening players live locally, we realise setting earlier start times of 7.15pm for the £15 comp, and 7.30pm for the £50 comp, may inconvenience some of our travelling players. With this in mind, we have extended late registration on all evening comps to 4 levels plus the break. From the 10th, players will be able to buy-in to the £50 comp until 9pm, and the £15 comp until 8.25pm. Players only lose 1BB and 1SB per level, so even the latest entrants will have plenty of play with their stack. More importantly, we guarantee that every single player will get into the tournament as long as they register at the cash desk before the last registration time!

Running an evening junior comp on Saturdays has become impossible since we have introduced 300 runner guarantees. We originally had to cap them at such small numbers, meaning a lot of players were turning up and not getting in. We’ll now be running both the £50 and £15 comps every Sunday, including on the £300 Deepstack weekends. Basically, it’s a very simple message; Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sunday evenings are the same buy-ins, the same start times, the same last registration times and the same guarantees.

If this new simplified evening schedule is successful, we will look at doing a leaderboard for these £50 and £15 comps in the New Year. With all the different events we are doing at weekends, including a new £50 rebuy (£45K / 300 runners guarantee) from November, I am sure we could come up with some interesting prizes!”
