Time For A Break

Saturday 22nd  July

Today’s comp was the $5000 PLH - the Event that my friend Brian Wilson won a bracelet in last year. No banana for me again though. Played 2 hands, lost 2. The second (my exit hand) is marginally interesting though.

A couple of players limped and I decided to call on the button with A-8 suited to try and make a flush. The flop was A-8-4 two clubs and the early position limper bet out 300. A second player called and I raised to 1500 (about the size of the pot). The original bettor passed (he probably had A-K or similar) but the second player now moved all-in.

I turned to Iwan Jones next to me and said, "I am quite sure he has trip Fours," but called for my last 1,200 anyway. It was 1,200 to win 5,700, so I felt I couldn’t pass. He duly rolled over his set of Fours and Iwan and Xuyen (who was sat on the other side) both said ‘unlucky’.

However, I wasn’t actually unlucky. I put my money in the worst hand. Maybe this is the difference between being good and being the best. Sure it is a horrible hand to have been dealt. However, it is easy to work out my opponent probably has trip Fours. He was tight, he limped before the flop, flat called a bet on the flop, and now chose to reraise me. Trip Fours was a lot more likely than a flush draw.

Sunday 23rd July

Some snippets of trivia from today’s event. Daniel Negreanau managed to get in for $48,000 in a $1,000 re-buy event What world is he in? The other incident that put a smile on my face was between Mike Mathusow and Eric Lindgren. They obviously had some huge last longer bet that nullified the buy-in money. Eric offered everyone at Mike’s table $500 for every time they busted him and duly paid 4 of the bounties out.

I am about to take 3 or 4 days off, so don’t expect any updates for a while. Thank god I hear you say.
