The WPT's first event of 2006, the Third Annual PokerStars Caribbean Adventure in the Atlantis Casino Resort in the Bahamas, was won by a third-year college student - Steve Paul-Ambrose. At only 22, he joins the ever-expanding list of 'young guns' who have bested large fields in high buy-in competitions to take such coveted titles. He won $1,363,100 and a seat into the $25,000 WPT Championship tournament. It probably won't surprise you to hear that he won his seat to Paradise Island on PokerStars - for $102 and climbed the qualification ladder with the extraordinary result of walking away a millionaire, something his brother describes as "ridiculous." Despite having relatively little experience, his couple of years online seemed to have prepared him well enough for the lengthy $8,000 tournament, and his temperament is suited to acquire the skills needed for success in games like poker. No doubt the usual financial worries faced by many students are a thing of the past for Mr. Paul-Ambrose, although he must have been encouraged by his result against a field of over 700 - so is likely to be back online, or even at another such event, soon.
