Whenever I hear a brash cockney accent shouting "Fish!" from across the cardroom, I instantly know that Mr Woodley is in the vicinity. Based in Lee in South London, Ian is undoubtedly a character of the game who makes his presence known at every festival he attends. Few players possess the love of the game that he exudes and, although sometimes I want to slap him across the chops, it's a quality that I can't fail to admire.
Although one of the game's constant smilers, this is possibly triggered by the fortune he won on Chris Evans' TFI Friday, the taxing (ahem) question "What was the pie in American pie?" leading him to become the UK's first televised millionaire.
But whilst some would suggest he is a lucky git, one can't help but acknowledge his achievements at the felt since that lucrative fifteen minutes of fame: 50k at the Poker Den, €180k at the Irish Poker Open, €22k at the Euro Poker Classics - the list of achievements is seemingly endless, and in such a short space of time too!
What a shame he's a Charlton fan.
