Steering well clear myself, so hard to tell who is going to field a proper side and who isn't.

It's a fair point. Probably wise to wait until the last minute and see who's in the starting line ups and go from there

Carling cup is no good for betting. always weird and wonderful results. Maybe stick a few underdogs on a double from 4 coupon as theres always a few shocks. Stick 4-1s up to 8-1s on. Most chance of these winning in a carling cup match

I would not back a 'results' in the Carling cup, too unpredictable.
One market I would look at is the +2.5 goals market, if you can find near evens on any game I would back it, 25 of 37 games so far in this seasons comp have produced 3 or more goals.

One thing that i am looking at is probably the opposite to what you would expect from me.
Premiership sides away at Lower league opposition.
Mid table prem managers finally seemed to have realised that this is their best chance of getting a trophy and a route into europe and are planning on fielding strong sides.
I exclude relegation threatened prem teams who are just concentrating on survival, so that rules out Birmingham and Burnley.
The 2 i like tonight are Bolton away at Tranmere and Blackburn away at Gillingham.
If the Sunderland team last night is anything to go by, and from what ive read on the Bolton and Blackburn websites they are planning on fielding strong sides.
And Tranmere are absolutely shocking (i saw them at Leeds at the weekend) and seem to have no coordination in the team and dont know what to do with the ball. John Barnes will be sacked soon. And Gillingham havent strengthened from the League Two squad and managed to lose at home to Hartlepool at the weekend, and thats some acheivement.
As long as the starting line ups arent totally awful i will be going for a Bolton, Blackburn double tonight.

Last night was a strange one with a 48 hour turnaround for both teams, Sunderland did play pretty close to a 2nd team and we played about half/half. The prevailing attitude at Norwich was no one gave a crap and we played very open, so our shoddy defence got exposed.
Isn't big Sam known for fielding reserves in cup competitions?

He's making changes, but these changes involve appearances by Kalinic, Dunn, Salgado, Grella, Warnock and Emerton.
Should be a comfortable 2-0/3-0 victory.

Bolton look at full strength, possibly unchanged from weekend. Balckburn quite a few changes but still a strong side.

Play suspended a couple of times as fans get on the pitch.

Aaron Smith from Hemel Hempstead, who was at the game, said: "I saw one man cornered by at least a dozen Millwall fans before kick-off. Terrifying scenes."
Eyewitness Fergal O'Brien said: "I saw a West Ham fan getting punched in the face by a burly bald man who had a coin between his fists."
Another fan said: "I was in a throng walking up and a group of hooligans came for us.
"The police wanted to help but they were clearly afraid to use force. I am still shaking. I thought I was going to die."
Ben Newton, from Harrow, north London, said his father had been stretchered away after being hit with a dart to the head.
