Title: Paul Phillips vs Hellmuth Heads up
Post by: TightEnd on March 14, 2005, 09:41:26 AM
From www.extempore/livejournal.com

I enjoyed this one, from the recent US National Heads up Championship

Phillips is talking in his journal

" The hand theat might have cost me the match though is one that I won. I am the unraised BB with Jh2h. Flop is an amazing JJ2 with two spades.........the blinds were probably 600-1200 at this point so 2400 in the middle.

I check the flop. Phil bets 2000. I check raise to 5000. Phil starts talking to himself about how I'm trying to run over him and re-raises me another 3500! He has about another 20k behind the 8500 he has put in. There is 80k total in play.

What range of hands do you put Phil on?

How do you play the hand from this point forward"

The thread of replies is fascinating!

I would like to know what you think!!!!

Well he could have nothing at all, but put Paul on a bluff. Tellingly, though, none of the replies in the thread, most of whom are from wiser counsel than the 'ol fella, agree with this. So maybe not!

But this is an opportunity to put in a plug for paul Phillips Journal, which goes under the title www.extempore/livejournal.com.

If you like serious debate, with a touch of attitude, then you'll enjoy reading Paul's stuff. He is articulate, intelligent, & despite being American, has a cutting wit, and is a delight to share a table with.

Read & enjoy!
