Oioi Michael Carter-Williams., MC Dub himself, confirms his status as Fred's fave basketballer by being named rookie of the year. Our best NBA bet and digs into those historic losses. I read today 8 of the top 10 draft picks got 0 votes for ROTY, shows what a bad draft it was. My fault that we didn't bet more with Fred, was tricky with tikay awol at Glitter Gulch but in better news, I had a decent lump on  aftertiming aftertiming aftertiming

After some protracted first rounds and some shocks in individual games, all the teams we wanted/predicted are through to the Conf semis, starting tonight. Have to say I don't fancy Brooklyn that much, I really hoped Garnett and Pierce, two wily old warhorses, had been freewheeling the regular season and would burst into life in the post season, but not sure it's gonna happen....maybe they're just a bit past their best. Still, they have a ridic record against Miami this season (won all 4 games!) and Fred has cover in the shape of the finals bet, so nothing can go too wrong there. Indy play Washington in the other semi, think whoever wins that loses the Conf final.

OKC, our other outright bet, have looked a little stretched in the first round, but they're through and they still have their star player KD to hit his straps, so there's a chance there, and I'd expect them to beat the Clippers. San Antonio play Portland in the other semi in the West and they shouldn't have too much trouble there

Ha, well done Jeff.

That bet was placed 14th July 2013, nearly the oldest ("live") bet on the Spready. (The oldest bet is the Brooklyn Nets bet, @ a fancy price).

Looks like we enter the Finals in good shape, too.

Daily Report

Loss on Month -£684.47

Outstanding Bets £2644.52

Free Bets £10 William Hill, £25 Betfred

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Aia1Hxq-NDNWdFk3UmlTSXMzTjRBTVNfOWRndVFsZHc&usp=drive_web#gid=24

A loss of £25 yesterday

Winner

Michael Carter-Williams NBA Rookie of the year +£60 (£5 at 12-1)

Losers

Kelly Olynyk NBA Rookie of the year -£5

Selby beating O'Sullivan -£50. Quite an astonishing performance of grit and temperament that to win 18-14 from 8-3 and 10-5 down

No maximums at the crucible -£20

Crystal Palace no top half finish -£10. 3 points behind Stoke witha  game to go, with 8 goals inferior goal difference. Fun bet that at 50-1, very close indeed!

How about this for the best exposition you will ever hear of why you like a sport? The incomparable Stephen Fry http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/snooker/27286299

Long term

Crystal Palace's Crystanbulling of Liverpool, a stunning comeback after the draw traded at 999/1 on the exchanges, gave our Liverpool lay of £25 a good chance of being a profit after all. All eyes on Man C v Aston Villa now

AS IT STANDS: 1 - Liverpool P37 GD +50 Pts 81, 2 - Man City P36 GD +59 Pts 80

Suarez scored. With 31 goals, Luis Suarez has now equalled the premier league goalscoring record in a 38-match season. We will be booking the much needed £440 profit at the weekend

the Palace point may be significant for the handicap bet, not sure, but it looks like there's a £250 e/w profit to come from that at the weekend too

Yesterday in LVCC2 one of our batsmen Ned Eckersley hit an unbeaten 100 for Leicestershire (la la la, Leicestershire la la la) and hopefully scores more today

In baseball the Royals lost 6-5 to the Padres and are slipping away from the Tigers at the top of the AL Central

The Yankees lost to the Angels 4-1.

I am quite excited about the Orioles at 12-1 to win the AL East. Someone has to be. Not that its close or anything.

Baltimore   15   14   .517
NY Yankees 16   15    .516
Boston   15   17   .469
Tampa Bay   15   17   .469
Toronto   15   17   .469

Ha!

Even remembered the Bus Porn.

Nice stickly-up clock-tower thing, too, (1st Bus Photo) where exactly in Leicester is that?

Keep the Orioles stuff coming, please.

Almost certain that the Palace handicap place is good.  Think a point was enough if Hull didn't win every game and they can't catch Liverpool now.

The Clock Tower, top of the haymarket, bottom of Granby street. Nice tower, at the less salubrious end of town usually surrounded by the detritus of a city centre's day

Just glad there was a profit made after the top 10 near miss. Nice thinking of the handicap bet from the start.

I had a slightly shameful shout at Mr Fry yesterday while he was regaling us with his bewilderingly joyful linguistic dexterity.

He compared snooker to chess (and I was pleased to note him marking that chess players HATE that!) but then said everyone thought chess had reached its peak when Alexander Alekhine was World Champion. He misremembered, I'm sorry to say, albeit quite understandably.

It was José Raùl Capablanca who was asked about whether chess had reached the edge of its limits. He was World Champion in the 1920s and, although he reportedly denied it had, he did predict it wasn't far off. He then embarked on a project to experiment to make chess harder, creating two new pieces on a 10x8 board (a chancellor and an archbishop, if you are interested).

Two years later, he lost his world title...to Alekhine. Solved, eh?

It is such a pleasure to me to listen to people like Stephen Fry and Russell Brand talk. Whether you agree with everything they say is understandably unlikely, but they say it with such passion and such a wide vocabulary that it makes them endearing. At least to me. Believe it or not, there isn't much I like more than looking up a word I've never heard before and adding a new string to my bow.

Omphalos. Fabulous!

Me too, & I need to do it after reading most of Tighty's posts, which is quite embarrassing really.

Before we leave the World Snooker, though, I must say all that "Jester from Leicester" nonsense was rather grating, I thought. Do fans really call him that?

The visual coverage of the Snooker was wonderful, as always, but I think the Presenters & Commentators could use a bit of a freshen-up. Bring back Clive Everton, I say.

Morning Mr T.

I think a small wager on the Madrid tennis is in order. I meant to do it on Sunday but got carried away in the drop goal excitement and plain forgot.

In the lower half of the draw I don't think there is much to chose between Nishikori and Wawrinka on the outright market but one is priced at 4-1 and the other at 20-1. Nishikori is the right age to improve as a player, and has just won his first clay court title. His record on clay this year is won 6 lost 0 and last year he managed to beat Federer in this tournament.

Suggest £10 e/w on Nishikori @ 20-1 with Betfred, Hills or Bwin.

The angry Scot is back in action, on a clay court too ! Must be a bet to be had somewhere.

Have we still got the £10 free bet with Hills?  Read the report this morning and thought better use that soon.  Just looked at my account and it is gone.

It is possible I could have used it, and forgotten, but think it is more likely to have expired.
