How much do you tip?
«

If you win a tournament or decent cash hand, I am curious to how much you tip? If I win a couple of grand, might tip upto £50 and a couple of quid if I win a decent cash hand.
But if you are to win £100k or something, how much do you tip? Heard that some places expect tips of over £1k, whilst I would not even contemplate leaving that much as a tip!

Think generally after you cash a comp, 2-3% tip is fairly standard. Asked the TD at DTD after i cashed a comp and he said this is about right, and generally most people tip less than that.
Cash just varies i guess, depending on the size of the pot and how lucky you got in winning it!

If you ever end up in the position to negotiate a final table deal, I think it's a good idea to include a bit for the dealers. Saves a lot of hassle later on.

I used to deal so generally always tip. I tip more when playing cash than I should. People in this country are noticeably tight at casinos for tipping (less so in card rooms I find).
One thing I like doing is if I am 3 handed and discussing a deal or whatever, building the tipping in can lead not only to a better deal for yourself, but also gets the dealers something.
One time I will never tip is if there is a "dealer bonus" or some other extra rake where they should be getting a decent wedge built in. If the casino or whatever is not passing this on to the dealers then they need to sort it out (with feedback from the punters).
If I won 100k i would leave £500 maybe max

i believe 1-3% is stnd, on big scores (6figs+) I think 3% would be incredibly generous, 1% is the stnd, £100k score, £1k tip seems about right to me.
probsif you felt like the service provided was particulally good you'd be be a bit more generous and ofc the reverse.

Hopefully I'm lucky enough that I'll have to worry about it one day

It does kind of seem bonkers if you win $10m that you would be leaving $100k behind for the dealers.
As Marky says, lovely problem to have.

If like Harrah's/wsop they take some from the pot for staff then stuff 'em.

big +1 to this. It really winds me up this taking 3% from the prize pool after raking 10/12% from the pot to cover staff costs anyway. I rarely play an event which takes anything out of the prize pool on % basis for this reason. If more people did the same they wouldn't do it.

If someone from Ladbrokes were sitting with me between 3 and 4:50, telling me every time something happened that affected my bets and they were with me right up to the moment that the bet came in, I'd likely give them a tip.

surely a poker dealer is only doing his job as well then? That was my point in asking why there is such a culture in poker to tip after winning an event yet if you win in the bookies or in a corner shop on a lottery ticket i am pretty sure you wouldn't tip 2-3% of your winnings.
