They are about to commence - sitting down and all, so I am going to go hover and listen to the announcements.

It looks like the cream has pretty much risen to the top in this mixed event, giving credence to the opinion that such games are a truer test of all-round poker skill...but now it's NLHE so it's anybody's game.

P.S. We're not sure of the seat order - coming right up.

Jen and I were talking in the taxi about how disappointing it is to see this turn into a No Limit Event just for ESPN. IT really should be about the poker, not television.

Making it No-Limit will not only remove some of the skill factor that players have displayed to reach this final, but also result in the winner of this table being partly the No Limit Champion, rather than the H.O.R.S.E. At the moment, in my humble opinion, we have several H.O.R.S.E champions - it seems unbalanced to suddenly introduce a whole new game.

In this final, we have Reese, Ivey, Brunson, Antonius, Cloutier, Tomko, and Bethchel (who many don't know is a Main Event winner). Bloch is darn handy too. But what this shows us is that the cream reall has risen to the top, making this event a much better depiction of which players are the strongest.

And it's time to SHUFFLE UP AND DEAL!!!

The very first hand, extremely short-stacked Patrik Antonius moved in, as was quite highly probable.
Small blind Andy Bloch called and so did TJ Cloutier in the big blind.
It check-checked all the way as the board came Qs Ad 4h Qc Js, and as it turns out Patrik's 4s 4h was enough to double him up.

They're all pretty much heavyweights, but I'd go for Chip Reese, Doyle Brunson or Phil Ivey.

I've just return from asking the aficionados and they say Ivey. I like Chip Reese, but his strenght lies predominatly in cash game poker.

Big pot for David Singer - I think he raised to 50k, and found a big raise from Doyle Brunson - 100k or so more.  He called and there was a flop:
6d 6c Th
Doyle wasn't backing off (or so it appeared) as he bet out 200k fairly sharpish, but found an equally swift "all-in" from Singer, and passed a pot to him which took the dealer three goes to sweep over.  There are properly unwieldy WSOP stacks on that final, look good from an overhead camera angle, but take ten minutes to stack per pot...

The blinds (remembering it's NLHE all the way now) are 10,000/20,000 with a 3,000 ante.  Hefty.  They go up every 90 minutes, with a break between each level.

Preflop action

Tomko v Ivey

Flop = Ad 3s Tc

Ivey fingers his chips for a while, carefully deliberating his next move before announcing rasie and pushing out two 100k towers.

Tomko does the 'hold cards in one hand as if you are considering', before making the inevitable and clear fold that such a gesture signifies.

Doyle makes it 60k and gets a call from Andy Bloch in the small blind.
Flop:  Js 7h Ac  Andy checks, Doyle checks.
Turn:  8c  Andy bet out 100k, and Doyle called.
River:  2c  Check-check

Doyle shows Aspades 5d and Andy mucks - looked like that top pair check on the flop got Doyle paid a little bit there.

Sorry you're not feeling great, but good to have you with the updates!  Every pot is significant, in that a decent stack moves around every time a hand is dealt.  Bearing in mind they started with 50k in chips, there's that in the pot before they get going...

Phil Ivey raises preflop, Tomko moves all-in, Ivey calls.

Tomko = Ahrt 8s

Ivey = Kd Qh

Board = 4s 9c 5s Jc 5h

Phil Ivey returns the chips he took off Tomko earlier.

Hi there

It's 22.25 over here

My tip has always been Ivey, he is just so dominant that I'd love to see him win so people can't keep highlighting the luck factor in poker. True, there is a high level of luck involved, but for Ivey to make 10th in the 2003 Main Event, top 25 in 2005, win the Poker Millions, and so on, it would be awesome for him to zip the mouths of those who claim the skill level to be slim to none.

But don't underestimate Doyle. He may be old, but he's shown from yesterday's 20 hour session that he's moe than capable of staying focussed during long periods of play.

Aside from the $2000 NLHE running simultaneously...

Found El Blondie at last - doing well in this event  ;cheerleader; ;cheerleader;

Also John Shipley  (top 10% in chips)
Skalie (Jon Kalmar)  probably chip leader over 50,000
George Danzer     Would have been chip leader if his KK hadn't been cracked by 10 10
Julian Gardner

And that's just on one row of tables... going to keep half an eye on them when there's nothing much going on on the Feature Table.

We've found a good niche kind of round the back of the feature table where we can see the screens for the flops and almost hear the announcer.  The security guard actually let me in front of the rope, but the lady in charge of the press (whose fault all this restriction isn't - she's very nice) immediately sent me back.  If I hear "Green Means Go, Red Means No" one more time, I may well have some kind of fit.

Andy Bloch raises to 60k from under the gun

Chip Reese (button) and Jim Betchel (Big Blind) call.

They all check an Ac 8d 9h flop.

Turn = 4d

Jim checks, Andy bets 100k, and the other two fold.

Pot to Bloch.

Just spoke to Max Pescatori who won the $2,500 Event earlier on in the Series.

He seems like a top bloke, even signed one of my cards.

He specifically asked for the seven of diamonds as he claims that it is the most important card in his homecountry of Italy.

When I asked him what was more important, the money or the bracelet, he immediately responded with "the bracelet, no doubt."

What these players would do for a bit of gold round their wrist...

Been taking my tableside shift (well, set-side) and saw a whole bunch of preflop raise-pass stuff.  In case you're interested, it's one each to Singer, Ivey, Reese, Cloutier and Tomko.  So the blinds and antes are migrating.

But then - another hit for Doyle Brunson - he made it 60k to go preflop and was called by Chip Reese and David Singer.
Flop:  2c 3c 7s.  He bet out (first to act) a big old 220k, then after a bit of a think, Chip min-raised him!  David got out of the way and it was quite a dwell before Doyle gave his hand up facing another 220k.  This is the second big hand he's lost like this - betting out big out of position, and getting re-raised off it.  Would love to see the old hole card cams...

While sat watching the final, I overheard some spectators chatting about the game - they appeared to be more generally curious than card players themselves, as I heard one of the Crew telling them about how the top players worked.  "I thought they'd have constant banter," one spectator lamented, and was told that at this level they're all concentrating on reading each other, "Do they have it or do they don't" [sic].

Just witnessed a good ol' fashioned Ivey staredown.

The player on the other end was Chip Reese who had made a preflop reraise of 600k. A fair sum indeed.

Ivey was motionless, but giving Reese the full once over, patiently waiting for his opponent to give something away.

At first, Reese was also statuesque, but after a minute or two, he moved his hand to his mouth and gently but subtely scratched his nose.

A minute or two later, Ivey finally opted for the fold.

News from the $2,000 NL

Down to just 153 players from 1572 or something ridiculous.  El Blondie still going strong (pictured) - glad I jumped the rope before they get down to fewer than 15 tables or you'd have even worse quality snaps...

Doyle Brunson has been very quiet today. Although he seemed to be coping okay with yesterday's 20 hour session, is this too much for someone of Doyle's age?

Do the youngsters hold a significant advantage over the likes of Tomko, Betchel and Brunson?

Play has resumed with Jen watching patiently at ringside.

It's kinda surreal at the moment. It's approaching midnight here in Vegas, but, due to the late start time and yesterdays bizarre finish, it feels like the afternoon.

I guess it's true what they say about Vegas, you truly do lose a grasp on time here.

Action!  Dewey Tomko doubles up -

In early position he pushed his short stack in and patiently waited to see if he'd be called.  Eventually David Singer took the plunge, with Ac Kc, while Dewey didn't move a muscle as he flipped 9d Td.
Flop:  Qc 9h 3d   and a bit of hope for Dewey...
Turn:  3c   and a bit of hope for David... (I've watched a LOT of poker and I have to say this final is exciting)
River:  4s

Just prior to this Big Hand, Doyle raised under the gun to 70k and was called by Andy Bloch and small blind Phil.
Flop:  Ts 9c 3c  and it looks like Ivey might have capitalised on the ragginess, betting out a big old 150k and pushing the other two away.

$2,000

Ran into Skalie having a break - they're all in the money now, by the way - and he said he's still right at the top of the pack with 65,000, although there are apparently two stacks over 80k.  Dave is still above average, from what I could see (table walk ban enforced) while Julian and John are there too.  They're doing "round for round" at the moment - like hand-for-hand but a round.  Kind of obvious, actually.  Anyway, that leads me to believe we're on some kind of money-up bubble over there.

Andy Bloch raises preflop from the button, David Singer calls for 46k more from the blind.

Flop = 3c Kc Ahrt

Both players check.

Turn = 2c

Singer bets 115k, Bloch calls.

River = 2s

Singer checks, Bloch bets 250k, and Singer calls.

Bloch turns over Aspades 2d.

Singer mucks.

The damage was predominatly derived from a preflop all-in encounter with TJ Cloutier.

Doyle's K-J failed to outdraw Cloutier's T-T, resulting in the 73 year old dropping down to the felt.

The following hand, his remaining chips went in on a flop of 8d 2s Qs.

With Jh 6c, Doyle needed a miracle to outdo Singer's Ac Qd, a miracle that never came.

The turn was the seven of clubs leaving Doyle drawing dead. The River wasn't shown.

As expected, Doyle exited the table to a raptuous applause from the crowd, many of whom offered a standing ovation.

If the final table was HORSE my money would be on Andy Bloch/TJ Cloutier to win, its a shame its NLHE, the cadillac of poker ( ie overweight, oversteers and has to be recalled every once in a while ).

Just to give you a bit more info on the lesser know David Singer...

Singer is from White Plains in New York and has encountered his fair share of cashes, the combination of which forms the sum of $1,419,690, a highly impressive figure to say the least.

His most notable victory was in the $7,500 Heads Up No Limit Hold 'Em at the Mirage a couple of months back.

However, this is only his third highest cash. On September 19th he won $249,755 for a 6th place finish in the Borgata WPT, the, just a few months later, he finished 3rd in January's WPT Main Event in the 2006 Pokerstars.com Caribbean Adventure for a highly impressive $436,200.

So, overall, not a player to be taken lightly.

Dewey Tomko is our 7th place finisher - winning himself a cool $343,200

Dewey raised under the gun to 100k (showing strength...) and the next player to act, Andy Bloch, re-raised to 300k (ditto).  This was really an "all-in or not all-in" question, answered when Dewey re-raised an unfoldable amount, and they were on their backs:

Dewey Tomko:  8s 8c
Andy Bloch:  Qd Qh

Flop:  9d 5c 7h   (bit of an intake of breath from the announcer)
Turn:  Kc
River:  4c

And Dewey Tomko headed off the Stage...

If the final table were HORSE I would have no doubt that Chip would be the favourite.

I have to say that Chip has played relentlessly from the word go, his chips not yo-yoing but steadily heading skywards.  Take this pot:

Chip raises to 75k preflop, Andy Bloch calls.
Flop:  Th Jh 4d.  Check-check.
Turn:  4s  Chip bets out 125k, Andy calls.
River:  3s  Chip bets a hefty 300k, and this time Andy doesn't call.

Bit by bit, but looks very confident indeed.

Singer was short-stacked before the hand began with just 250,000.

He moved it all-in preflop with Aspades Tc, only to find Chip Reese sitting pretty with Jc Js

The Tc 3c 7d flop gave Singer 3 extra outs, but the 6d Turn and 4c River failed to deliver any of those 6 cards.

It sounds as though play has slowed down somewhat (although I find that hard to believe) as I haven't heard any cheering or clapping for several minutes now.

This would probably indicate that the usual raise, fold, fold, fold, fold action is taking place.

Jim Betchel shouldn't be underestimated. He rarely receives a mention, but lest not forget that this man is a Main Event winner, becoming the third player to win $1,000,000 at the World Series when he took top honours in 1993.

A dark horse perhaps?

Anyone at the final table of a $50k buyin with some of the best players in the world has a shot, I don't think you can call anyone at that table a significant underdog against anyone else.

We have a 5th place finisher - it's TJ Cloutier, winning $480,480

After waking up for the last 20 minutes or so - charging limpers' tax to Chip from the big blind, winning another preflop and seemingly getting involved, he raised again, this time to 90k with 7d 7h.
Andy Bloch quickly pushed all-in, and TJ quickly called - but Andy's Ts Td were well in front, staying there (with a flourish) as the board came:
Aspades Ac 2h 3h Tc

So we're down to four....

Well surmised, sir!  Yep - it was one to Andy, one to Chip, and several to a gear-upping Ivey.

Surely the biggest surprise here is Andy Bloch?

After being barred from every easy blackjack game he's switched to poker and done exceptionally well.

He's gone deep in several WPT/WSOP circuit events so its not a surprise to me but I'm sure most won't have heard of him.

Not too much to report.

Andy Bloch raises Chip's button raise from the small blind, forcing the latter to fold.

Then a small pot between Ivey and Betchel.

Battle of the blinds. Both checked the K-6-Q flop. Ivey called a 40k bet when the turn came a Jack. Betchel checked his King when the river brought a Ten. Betchel wins the pot.

WOW - with 40 seconds left on the clock I was heading for the hotdogs, when a BIG hand kicked off:

Jim Bechtel raised, found a confident-seeming Andy Bloch putting in 200k on top - but then he faced a tough call when Jim pushed in - he had in total c. 750k...
A truly understandable dwell (it actually IS the World Series ;)    ) and he called!  With Td Ts.  Jim shook his head, showing his 7h 7s.

The board came:  2s Jh 3c 2d Qd and a last-minute exit for Jim Bechtel in 4th place winning $549,120

Mere minutes after we saw Phil Ivey buying a snack in the Food Tent, he's OUT in 3rd place, winning $617,760!

It took off after Andy called to see a 7d 3d Qh flop.  Andy checked, Phil bet 100k.  Andy raised a huge 400k on top - putting Ivey to the test.  He decided to take the plunge, moving in and receiving the expected call.
Ivey showed:  Ac 7h  (!)
Bloch showed:  4d 5d

Turn:  Ad   (a mixed cheer and groan went up)
River:  6c

And the man many considered a favourite is out third.

The heads up between Chip Reese and Andy Bloch is closening (if that is a word) - they look pretty even at the moment, although really it's hard to tell; they both have rows of stacks which don't lend themselves to counting from behind six people.  Nevertheless, the announcer is helpfully giving us bloggers the suits of the flop and clearly stating the bets, so it's really not bad.  Quite enjoying it actually  8) 8)  The atmosphere is slightly circus-y with all the cameras and gizmos, but pretty exciting.

Very little happening in terms of heads up action.

Neither player seems particularly eager to try any moves, it all appears to be abc poker. Very rarely does a player reraise preflop, and a flop bet usually takes it down.

It's also due to this being such being such a high profile Event. Brunson, Ivey, Reese, Bloch, Betchel, and Cloutier all made this final table, so it was a pretty star-studded affair. Hence, all the extra bumph.

Back to the final table, and Andy Bloch kind of weathered Chip Reese into trailing mightily chip-wise... then there was a great crowd-agitating moment as on a flop of 3h 7h 4c Chip put the pressure on by moving his whole 1.3 million into the middle - - Andy Bloch called with........ 7s 2d !!  And found Chip with Tc-5 !!!

I heard one gentleman of the press whisper at that moment, "The 72 now becomes 'The Bloch..."

Turn:  6d    and a huge amount of crowd noise greeted the phenomenal gutshot hit
River:  Kd

They're back to back and forth now, with Chip moving forward, but still shorter.

Flop = 4c 2h 9s

Chip bets 90k, Andy reraises to 270k, Chip folds

Kudos to Brunson, & yes, this Final proved that the cream will rise to the top.

As soon as this Final finishes, take a 3 day break.

Now you blondes, an instruction for you, too -  - please let's hear it for our hero & heroine - Slopster & Jen.

Pretty good heads up blinds, there are around 90 big blinds in play.
I really think Andy Bloch has the edge in this match, if it wasnt for a gutshot straight it would already be over.

Many thanks folks, I'm sure Jen will be highly touched by your complimentary comments.

To be honest, this is an easy life. It's hard work, but the pay-off's just too good to ever complain too much.

On a side note, what would you guys like us to cover over the next couple of weeks (excluding Main Event):

I like the look of the $1,000 rebuy. Should attract some blondeites, top European players, not to mention the deep pocket 'name' players over here in the US. Also, the prize should be around the 750k mark.

The break is slightly longer than I first thought.

Andy Bloch is back at the table, but neither the audience of Chip Reese have returned.

I've been planning to use the phrase 'Chip off the old Bloch' for ages now, especially if Chip wins, but I've heard at least 2 other people come up with it, so I guess it isn't particularly original after all.

Do we really need more low entry NLHE? ( Short handed NLHE might be good though ).

Pretty big hand here (which goes the right way for you AB fans):

They see a 4h 4s Qd flop - check check.
Turn:  6s  Now Andy bets 180k and Chip calls.
River:  Qc  (veeery interesting).   Andy bets 400,000....and Chip calls - he gets shown the Qs 6h for the High House!  Chips to chip...

We'll feed your suggestions into our special UpdateComputer, and get back to you on a reasonable schedule...  personally I am thinking that the $2,000 NL shootout might be good fun, and contain a good number of blondeites...

Anyway, back to the event in hand - Snoops is at the rail (where the spectator stands have magically emptied allowing us to pull up a pew) and I rather think I should join him, and maybe take some illicit snaps from behind the other viewers.  Back in a tick.

Chip bets 100k, Andy calls

Flop = Kh 9s 3s

Andy checks, Chip bets 100k, Andy folds.

After such a frantic start to the day, it really has returned to snail's pace. I suppose it beats the ol close your eyes and stick it in routine though that we normally see from heads-up encounters.

What worries me about covering these Events is that there might not be enough interest to warrant an update. Although I'd like to give somehting different a go, I don't expect there too be too many blondeites, 'names', and European players involved, and that's what we need to lure people to the updates.

sheesh, 5 o'clock here already

time really has flown by today

it feels like 2 hours, not 8, and starting at 9pm instead of the usual 12 or 2pm was kinda surreal.

The only time I can figure out the time of day here is when the cleaners start bringing out the vaccuum cleaners.

On other matters, Andy Black, who wasn't in the HORSE, has been mixing it up on the cash table, as has Hellmuth, who undertook an all night session of Chinese Poker last night.

My secret spy told me that there'd been a lot of money changing hands this week. Apparantly, Matusow, The Shiek, and Hellmuth have been the big losers of the week, but how reliable that info is, I'm not sure.

The last chip count put Andy Bloch ahead with 4.8mil to Chip Reese's 2.4.

And recently an 800k raise preflop (over the top of Andy's raise to 100k) from Chip sent a pot towards his opponent, when the flop came Ad Kc 4s.  They both checked, and when Chip checked the Th turn, Andy's 400k bet gave him that tasty pot.

As for the rest of the last half hour, it's been the bettor on the flop who's taken the pot down.  It has slowed, but even so, this has definitely been one of the swiftest-passing updates I've had the privilege to participate in.

Every hand seems to be following the same pattern. A preflop bet to around 100k, followed by a call. Then, there will be a bet on one of the streets, which will either see a call followed by a later fold, or a fold there and then.

It's wierd how the rest of the final was so hectic and then suddenly, we're in slo-mo mode.

(1) Flop = 9d 3s 5d

Chip bets 120k, Andy calls

Turn = Ac

Both check

River = Qd

Chip bets 200k, Andy folds

(2) Following the current trend, Chip calls a 100k preflop bet from Bloch, who then bets 120k on a T-K-Q rainbow flop. I kninda hoped that this was to be THE hand, but the Ace on the turn seemed to slow things down as both opted for a check. Then, when the River brought a six, both players checked again. Chip and Andy showed a King, but Andy's Ten kicker beat off Chip's seven.

(3) Andy Bloch bet 100k, Chip Reese made the call.

Flop was Q-6-J (2 hearts), both checked

Andy checked the raggy turn, before folding to Chips 190k bet.

Not sure why he didn't round it up to 200k though. hmm

(4) Andy bets 80k, Chip calls

Flop = Qs 4h Qh

Chip checks, Andy bets 100k, Chip folds

(5) Chip Rease made the preflop raise this time, putting in 110k in total, to which Andy called.
The flop came down rainbow 7-4-Q.
Andy checked, Chip bet 110k, and Andy called.
The turn was a nine, which resulted in both players checking.
The Chip folded to Andy's 120k River bet when the six of clubs fell.
Pot goes to Bloch

I think we're going to see an allin and a call soonish - Andy can risk the double up and start chipping away again , even if he's an underdog in the hand, if he can get 2-3 allins with the chip lead he's more likely to win, I think we'll see if when/if chip reese hits the 1.2-1.25mill mark.

I think it's more that the names who made the final were absolute giants - Brunson, Ivey, etc. That's in no way to suggest that this event was value-tastic!  It's just that if you got all 143 names and had to just choose the most "legendary" ones, those would be on many a list.

Andy i imagine is quite a good player, so i very much doubt he is going to want to take a shot that will nearly equal the stacks, he is far more likely to do that when he has an 8-1+ lead. The biggest mistake in HU poker come from people saying "well i had him ouychipped so i took a shot" its just plain wrong.

He has a 4.3-1 lead at the moment, a double up would put it at 2.5mill to 4.5 mill.

If I had a 30% shot at winning an allin I'd take it in that situation. 30% of tournaments won right there and he still has a big chip lead.

Double Up For Chip Reese!

The half-asleep crowd jumped to life when Andy Bloch put Chip Reese all-in preflop and he called, with Aspades Td.  Andy showed Ks Js.

Flop:  9d Kd Jd.  Oh the possibilities.  One guy in the audience piped up: "Ace Queen Ten!!"
Turn:  Ad  And the crowd bay for a Jack, King or straight flush.  Anything exciting in fact.
River:  Ahrt

And we're back into the fray.  It's gonna be another long night.

Gryf you really are a numpty- please allow the updaters to do their jobs instead of copying and pasting from pokerwire- blonde has a no stealing policy from other sites. KJ spades V AT off is a fair match up,  not the 70/30 shot you would have been willing to risk (also Chip was down to 1mill v Blocks 6 mill meaning KJ spades is worth a shot).

And Chip Reese doubles up again.

Bloch's preflop raise saw Reese moved all-in. Bloch rose from his seat (this is where I knew he was going for it) and dwelt for 30 seconds, before announcing call.

Bloch = 9s 9c

Reese = Kc Kd

Board = Jc 2d 7h Qc Ad

Reese must have around teh 4 mil mark now.

Sorry about the post it just proved my point that there was going to be an allin around this stage. ( I said once it gets under the 1.2mill mark for Reese's Stack. )

I also want to comment that I'd call in any situation as long as I wasnt dominated in so far as one can be sure, and I stand by that ;)

If you can manufacture three allins with the chip lead with a 30% hand each time you have a 90% chance of winning at least once... I'll take a 90% shot at winning a tournament when its heads up. Maybe deserves a seperate thread in general? If you disagree go and post it there.
If you're not dominated its more likely to be nearer 40% in which case if you can get three allins with the chip lead you are extremely likely to win.

On another note, does anyone really think Harrahs should be taking over $300k from the prizepool?

I guess that hand was a few CHIPs off the ol' BLOCH

If you can manufacture three allins with the chip lead with a 30% hand each time you have a 90% chance of winning at least once...

In bizzaro world perhaps.....

Your oppenent has a 70% chance of winning each hand.

Their chance of winning all three = 0.7 x 0.7 x 0.7

Which is just under 35%, not 10%

Eeeek, I've bokked him.

How are the competitors holding up, does one look more fatigued than the other?

At first it was Bloch who looked the freshest, but now, after those two double ups, he's the one that looks somewhat drained.

Sorry if i come across as a smart-arse here, but the chances are actually 65.7%, not 90%.

The maths are: 1-(0.7^3).

Cheers.

with a chip lead of 6 million to 1 million you take on 2 allins as a 30/70 dog and you are likely to be now looking at a chip defecit rather than a chip lead. One event doesnt affect another in poker and if you play 2 pots as a 30/70 dog it doesnt mean you have a 60% chance of winning the tournament, all it means after you lose your first pot is that you have 5 million to 2 million and if you take on another pot as a dog you will more than likely be down to 3 million looking at your opponents 4 million. In heads up play you can only play one pot at a time and should play each pot on its merits- AB was playing fantastic heads up poker and keeping the pots small, when he has switched to big pot poker he has lost his chip lead and probably chance at the title (chip reece is a master at playing pots on his terms with the chip lead).

If you would like to go into a mathmatical debate we can do it in vegas as I am just about to leave for the airport- I will let you chose pure and applied or statistical I don't mind. You cannot use that formula as one event does not effect another- its like saying a coin is tossed 10 times and comes up 9 times heads, the tenth time what is the odds on it being tails? Each pot in poker is a separate event and has to be treated that way.

Great updates as usual here on Blonde..................... :respect: ;applause; ;tightend; to Snoopy n Jen for a stirling job over all 3 days of this tourney................if this is just a taster for the Main Event then us stayathomers can look forward to excellent coverage................some of you might be finding this heads up boring but personally I think its great that the structure of the event has allowed for proper poker to be played when they are heads up instead of becoming a crapshoot for the bracelet and 1st prize. The only thing possibly wrong with this tourney is why are they only playing NL Holdem on the final table even allowing for the fact that ESPN wanted it that way for viewing figures surely from a purist's point of view they should have continued playing all the games as per the 1st 2 days. On another note Jen or Snoopy do you think any deals were discussed in the breaks or are they strictly against the WSOP rules?

I was playing heads or tails.

50% chance of winning, so I double my bets if I lose.

50% + 50% + 50% + 50% so I have a 200% chance of being right at least once, surely.

the Main Event may be a no go for blonde due to the lack of media access.

we'll have to wait and see, but they don't allow you to pass through the table's during the Main Event, which makes updating impossible, especially considering the layers of crowd on the rail and the sheer numbers of participants.

If we are going to undertake an update, we want it to be good one.

I doubt any deals were done, they've won so much already and there is some dignity in taking the bracelet in a deal-free manner.

Also, I really can't imagine players like Ivey, Brunson etc being overly keen on deals.

I completely agree - the "against the rules" bit probably doesn't matter a sausage, but when you play super-high-stakes cash, tourneys are all about the glory and the top spot - aka the bracelet.  They're unlikely to even worry about the cash - in any case they're both getting over a million dollars.

Apologies for the recent quiet - there's been another break.  That's the only way I keep track of the levels, incidentally.  I do hope they've managed to get a snack - I would've passed out hours ago.

I am sure the double through of Chip Reese has undone a lot of hard work by Andy, but he hasn't looked like the strain of the lengthy final has been getting to him up til now.

Well, it's 8am here now - I wouldn't have predicted a 12-hour-er at the start of the day, but as so often happens when there's a fast start to a final, the last two find themselves deep-stacked and prepared for a battle.  Like this one.

Morning/afternoon/evening (I just don't know any more!) -

He's been so close already to the victory - that gutshot really started the comeback of Chip Reese...but Andy has his vocal fans in the stands - before everyone started to fade out, there was quite a cheering section for the likeable pro.  He was even handing out some sort of DVD earlier to members of the audience.  That's bound to increase one's popularity, like wearing a cowboy hat.

Well, you're closer...in fact, Andy Bloch just got Chip Reese all-in again, on a flop of 9s 3d 8d.  Chip moved in and Andy made a similar call to his previous ones with his winning pair - 9c 7s.
Chip showed  Kd 6d.
The turn:  5d    (Hence the cheer from the Reese supporters)
River:  Kc

And we're no closer to seeing the end to this extraordinary 7+ hourer.

Bloch was down to 500k after the last hit, and the two players had been taking turns to moving all-in.

After a while, Bloch made his stand with 9s 8c, but found himself up against the wall when Reece flipped over his Ac Qc

Flop = 7s 7c Js

Turn = 4h

Someone in the crowd shouted out 'Pair the board!!'... and would you Adam and Eve it...

On your days off Jen.. you and Snoops have to do the Strat's ride..Mr Nun almost peed himself when it shot up the 1st time.. great views too...but at a guess you prob's have done it last time you went?..

No, too scared of that one last time (I can admit it) but if Snoops will do it I will too...went on the New York New York coaster, however, which was exhilarating although it made my neck feel weird for a few days.  Fascinating anecdote, eh?  I'll let you know how we get on....at the moment, we're just thinking about hitting the road and then the hay, and surfacing in 12 hours to gently wander around for a bit.

The funniest thing I've heard this week is when Bloch announced call, one fellow stepped onto the platform (which you aren't really allowed to do because it's a little too close) for a closer view.

After the flop was dealt, the security guy came approached him and said the following...

"Sir, if you come u behind me like that again, I shall take you down. I'm guarding money here, so next time I will put you on the floor. Is that understood?"

I laughed so hard I nearly soiled myself.

Just wondering about the first prize: Card Player and Pokerwire say $1,716,000; Hendon Mob and here say $1,784,640. Anyone know for certain?

(Not sure if I'm allowed to mention the other sites - please edit if I'm being inappropriate.)

Cheers.

Yortle - the printed sheet we got on Day Two says $1,784,640 so that's what we're sticking with for the moment.  Although you never know...

Well, thanks a lot for the support - it's been a pleasure, and we hope to bring more WSOP coverage as soon as we can get out of bed.  Night night.

The result seems somewhat appropriate if the purpose of this tournament is to identify the best 'poker player' (as opposed to the main event which nowadays relies heavily on luck to survive so many people).  For years Chip Reese's name has been mentioned whenever the top pro's are asked who's the best, but he gets relatively little press as he's more of a cash game than a tournament player, being a regular player in the Bellagio 'Big Game'.

It therefore seems 'right' that he's come out as the winner of this event.

Great updating guys!

Sheriff

I agree mate, i met Andy when the tilt guys came to the gutshot and he is a really nice guy, i would not begrundge him the win, however i want to see the HORSE event be the 'world championship' event and so to have a legend of poker like Chip win it improves the future credability of the tournament.

Sorry about the post it just proved my point that there was going to be an allin around this stage. ( I said once it gets under the 1.2mill mark for Reese's Stack. )

Yes Chip called Andy's push, Andy didnt "take a shot"

Andy by the sounds of it was playing perfect big stack HU poker, not shoving it in but using his stack to be able to make multiple bets throughout the hand, increasing the pressure on Chip.

I also want to comment that I'd call in any situation as long as I wasnt dominated in so far as one can be sure, and I stand by that Wink

If you can manufacture three allins with the chip lead with a 30% hand each time you have a 90% chance of winning at least once... I'll take a 90% shot at winning a tournament when its heads up

I think 3 people have already pointed out to you how flawed your maths is, winning 3 x 30% shots is 65.7% now assuming you can take 3 shots, you would need a 7m-1m chip lead to do this (7mv1m,6mv2m,4mv4m). Are you seriously telling me that with a 7-1 lead you are happy to take 2-1? (66%) Surely you are taking the piss?

Now lets say you are getting it in 40/60 then you are 78.4% to win over the 3 events, again are you happy taking 4-1 with our 7-1 lead?

If you have the chip lead you can apply the pressure on your opponent to make the crazy moves, you have the lead and patience. Lets imagine you let them start stealing and they build up a bit of a stack but you do get 2 shots in at 70-30, well then you are a 91% fave, 2x 60-40 then you are 84% fave. And thats sacraficing a 'shot'

I hope i have gone some way to explainng why a good player such as Andy Bloch or Chip Reese will wait it out when they have the lead.

I must add however there are times when i will just stick it in, and thats if my oppo is outplaying me. At that point your best bet is just to stick it in and hope to get in on a 40-60, as a player playing the streets better than you is far better than 60%!
