I played golf with Ian Clayton again today in a mens pairs match - he and his partner in banditry beat us in the end - they were 3-over par better ball both off 13hcp. - that's hard to beat with me having to give them 3 shots each! Great company though. Anyway, Ian's parents who would be about Tony's age are Mick and Eileen and always say hello to you. Aparently Mick brought his trailer round to your field to collect some wood from a tree you had chopped down a while back.

I think their strategy in africa is to stay quite close to water so they can escape the smaller land based predators. They also have about a dozen young, so that one being taken is a distraction that can help the others escape.
I do think they have a very low survival rate and from watching the Wildearth shows, it seems to be fairly rare for them to raise goslings to fledging.
There is a lake about half a mile away but that would be a fair old trek for those day or two-old goslings. The geese nest high in the trees and all the chicks just tumble down to the ground once they've hatched apparently.

I played golf yesterday - more like hacked it round than actual golf really - and I saw a few Egyptian geese during the round.
Not a single gosling though, they must be terrible parents as those chicks are so easy for predators to take.
Probably explains why in the ten years or so that the Egyptian geese have been around Wollaton Park those were the first goslings I've ever seen.

I was playing golf today at Wollaton Park in Nottingham with one of my regular partners and another guy who I'd not played with before, a very nice guy around 50ish and during the round we got chatting as you do and it turns out his parents live in a village near Hinckley. Not just any village though, the same village that you live in!
Do you know the Claytons?
I also saw some Egyptian goslings for the first time ever and took a couple of pics which I shall attempt to post on here shortly.

I wish the BBC would find presenters with some knowledge of the sport they are presenting.
Not satisfied with the vapid, "Will he be using tactics?" Seema Jaswal, we are now being treated to such insights as,"You can tell by his expression that he wants to win" and, "It's two frames all, it doesn't get more exciting than that" delivered in the lilting, tilting Welsh tones of random bint Catrin Heldd.
I'm sure she has plenty of experience, but I suspect it's mostly centred around school runs and ironing.
She is truly dreadful. I'm so glad it's not just me that shouts at the telly

Unlucky with the Allen bet Tony, I thought he was starting to look the most likely winner of the tournament.
He missed two simple reds which surprised me, one along the top cushion and another into the middle, and they were the difference.
My favourite frame was the tactical one where he tied Higgins in knots with some sublime safety shots that would never have occured to me.

Is it me, or has Daddies sauce got thinner? (Leaves door open for "Well you haven't got thinner" gag) Back in the day when they used to put sauce bottles on tables in cafes instead of selling you a teaspoon full in a sachet for 20p, it seemed to take ages for the sauce to run out of the bottle, sometimes you had to bang on the bottom to get it moving. These days it seems to run out like water. I reckon they've changed the formula to accommodate these newfangled duck fart squirters. Click to see full-size image. |
Brings to mind the old ditty: "Shake oh shake the ketchup bottle first none'll come then a lot'll"
