Post by: leethefish on August 09, 2014, 07:14:44 AM
What's happened to them ?

Hi Tighty,
Will you be doing any live updates in near future, or are you busy with other stuff/updates not gonna happen now?
They were always great to follow, shame if they stop.

The Sky 6 max main event will be updated on the Sky Poker forum from next Tuesday

There won't be any live updates on blonde in the near future, they are not currently a priority for DTD.

sure, but am extremely grateful to DTD for funding the update costs for so long, and the sponsorship is ongoing which is welcome.

Sorry tighty I don't read every post on blonde and obviously missed that
If it's a cost issue again .......
I'll gladly start the tighty update fund off again with £20

Gents,

Very kind of you, but it is NOT a cost issue.

I did explain it a few days ago, I'll try & find the Post shortly.

Yes, all this.....

DTD have changed their business moddel somewhat, & now give priority to 3 x third-party Clients, 'Stars, WPT & Next Door, all of whom are currently contracted to hold major events @ DTD every year. It's the view that as each of those Clients have their own platforms for Updates, then that is where the Updates should be. A perfectly reasonable view, even though it's not ideal for blonde.

That was the Post I made a few days ago.

It is something Rob decided, not a blonde decision.

You can understand where he is coming from though - he does not want to tread on the toes of his major third party "partner" clients, currently PokerStars, WPT & Sky Poker.

In some ways, a shame, but all understandable. And if those who enjoy the Updates still want to follow them, then they can visit the platform upon which they are updated. Which ticks exactly the commercial boxes Rob had in mind when making the decision.

The Sky Poker 6-Max UKPC Main Event will be Updated next door, of course, & by Tighty. There is not a "proper" Update for the Mini, just a sort of knockabout thing.

This is what Tighty-lovers have to make do with now:

I know you'll be devestated, aghast even, but Mr Beaneh was last seen wandering aimlessly around the room & discussing the quality of lol-live players. His seat appears to be empty, & devoid of those chip things.

Gareth Bale was better replaced than that.

Ok, 5/10 for the "lol-live players" comment...:D

Oi, that material is subject to Copyright, which will be rigorously enforced.

You'll be pleased to learn, however, that Lord Tighty will be Updating the Main Event next door, starting Tuesday.  Not with the style, aplomb, and dare I say panache of my stuff, but he will use some impressively long and obscure words.

Pfft.

He scored our payout-clinching goal with two thirds of the last game of the season still to play. Never a sweat.

To be fair, that quote could have came from any live comp beaneh has played over the the last few years...

Why couldn't there be updates for the monthly deepstacks and at events that are solely DTD events (ie not stars or sky etc)?

Last weekends £500 would have been hugely popular update with many blondes and popular members of the community running deep, finalling etc. Tighty would have done a superb job I'm sure.

Blonde is a much worse place without them.

I agree with this and also think the field becomes more pro heavy without them as a lot of casuals who used to play this event often get staked in on the premise that their followers have an update to follow them. Last weeks 500 was so reg heavy compared to the vast majority of deep stacks at dtd over the years even though it clashed directly with the gukpt up the road at Leeds. It certainly put me off playing the 500.

Blonde is a much worse place without them.

This is def true but I think dtd is worse off without them as well. The original 2008 £300 deep stack was IMO the perfect monthly product for the masses at dtd.  I think the 500 is too expensive for the casuals and as a result fewer price sensitive semi pro/ pros will also choose not to play it even though they can afford to because they deem there to be little value in the comp after expenses which results in the overlays which in turn are bad for the long term health of the club.  I understand rob has his new business model based on four monster festivals a year but his club was built on the monthly 300 deep stack which changed regular uk poker forever when he opened in 2008.  I think it's possible to fit both into this model.  I am talking as someone who has probably played at least 80% of the monthly deep stacks in 6 years that dtd has run so I feel I am suitably  qualified to comment on such matters without causing offence to anyone involved.

I feel like I don't know what's going on at Dtd also. I know they post here but I don't read them all the time but I would 100% read the updates. I've not played as much but I have also not missed it. The updates on here always used to make me miss Dtd and make extra efforts to get back there.

Agree that tighty's updates added something extra to proceedings, even if some of them constituted unsolicited character defamation and were hurty.

every time there was an update i would read it all, i enjoyed meeting the characters etc and it made me motivated to want to go to DTD. now i really dont know much and dont really care.

Updates were great value read and bought faces to names you knew on here

We don't know what value they were against cost (viewing figures v outlay)

I sure miss Tightys subtle humour and expertise reporting

Now I feel I can go to DTD and wear what I like without the fear of being called a chav, or the wife knowing where I "actually" am.

Thank you Rob

(of course I'm only kidding, love my fellow foxes supporter!)

Tikay explained why they'd moved in that direction with regards to the 3rd party events. I completely understand that. I'm asking about DTD events like the deepstacks.

Why does DTD need to "require" them for us (Blonde Poker) to go ahead with them ourselves if we fund them?

I dont know the ins and outs, but its not just funding. DTD can stop updaters walking through the tables if they wanted. Its their club. At most events spectators arent allowed inbetween the playing tables.

This is just an example but DTD did a lot for the updaters when blonde were actively updating there.

Rob, if you're reading, the Blonde updates made people like me want to be there.

I've been trying to keep up to date with the GPS via their 'blog'.  It's not very good.**

I tried watching the stream too but they appear to have recruited an aging club circuit comic with no knowledge of poker to talk over what's happening.

**understatement**

I'm a rec player and would always read the updates provided by tighty. They made me want to play at dtd and play the sats online for the deepstacks. With the live updates it made it feel like a big event for me.  The urge to play the sats has gone and it disappeared around the time the updates disappeared. Coincidence? Probably not.

All of the above comments. Reading the updates/ comments made you feel like you were missing out on something, so you'd want to turn up during late reg/ a future day 1 to join the fun.

Never really thought about this but definitely true for me, can't remember the last time I made the drive up. Although it's obviously not that big of a demographic, I don't get very motivated to try and make it for the big 3rd party events but used to want to go and play the monthly and the monte carlo's there - often didn't make it but always wanted to.

Things have moved on, nothing wrong with that and hopefully it's the right model for the club, because they deserve as much success in this field as anybody.

With Tighty at the tip of the tree, Blonde updates have always been so much better than the rest.
Mouth, Joobs and Sharples, JGill all provided more info, more colour and more amusement than anything else I've seen.

Could the updates not be 'a Blonde Poker production for Sky/Pokerstars/Genting etc' ?
