Title: Where to stay in New York
Post by: boldie on July 05, 2010, 10:04:36 PM
Right, MrsB and myself have decided to go to New York for our holiday but the last time I went over (about...Oh 10 or so years ago....I am soo old) I stayed with a friend so I know nothing about the hotels (other than the blatantly big names like the Waldorf)

Anyone know of any good hotels, fairly close to Times Square/Broadway and all that sort of touristy nonsense? Doesn't have to be ridic cheap, but I'm no balla either.

Have sent an email to a friend who lives there.  I'll post her suggestions once she gets back to me.

That place looks amazing, was it as good to actually stay there?

I have stayed here the two times I went to NYC

http://www.jerseycity.hyatt.com/hyatt/hotels/index.jsp

Drawbacks it obviously isn't in Manhattan but it is right next to the PATH station which is $1.75 10 minute ride to Manhattan.

Positives it is a damn sight cheaper than Manhattan especially if you bid on Priceline (I paid $75/nt last yr) and the view across the Hudson is incred.

If you can afford it, if only for part of your stay, this place is great

Walking distance to times sq, Broadway.

Stayed there three times (each time on business account, fortunately) and its the nuts.

I thoroughly recommend it

Still think this is the best kept secret, value hotel in all of Manhattan.  http://www.wolcott.com/?WT.mc_id=2600 W. 31st - three blocks from the Empire State Building but with Jersey prices.

yeah..only for 2 nights unfortunately. The place is owned by the same group who own soho house  private members club in london and high road house in chiswick. I believe Jude law is one of the partners.

I've stayed here a few times, both on business and pleasure. Quite a few international airlines use it for their crews which is usually a good sign. Excellent location for exploring on foot.

Thanks very much guys...Looked at everything, made my recommendation to MrsB...and was ignored (standard ;) )

Millenium @ UN Plaza it is. Even pointing out that UN plaza would be a main location for a terrorist attack couldn't persuade her lol
