I've just found out about those trapped miners. 4 months to get them out?

Anyone know how big the space they're trapped in is?

How are they going to keep them healthy, especially when they all have to do their business down there? (I assume they have shovels?)

It will be a bit of a bugger if one of them gets appendicitis or something. Do you think they could send down a scalpel and talk someone through the operation?

they're in a huge space apparently, tunnels to move around in and a really big chamber to use as their main living space. could be so much worse

they have communication and supply tunnels dug so could def do the scalpel thing

it's the mental health of them that's most worrying

The temperature is almost constant, & OK.

Light is OK, too. They are using the batteries of heavy plant to power their Miners lamps.

They have as much space as they wish. The tunnel collapse was a long way above them, & beneath that area, the tunnels are "normal".

temp is about 32 degrees constantly, a bit warm but physically they're about as comfortable as you could be trapped in a mine

Ryan is one of the nicest kids you could ever meet.  Only for him, I'd still be stuck somewhere in Blarney Castle.

When my son was diagnosed with Aspergers, "Curious Incident" was on a list of reading material given to us by the Paediatrician to help our understanding/awareness of the condition

Pretty spectacular writing I must say (though the second book paled into comparison). However, Haddon has said he regrets that the book came to be associated with Aspergers/autism as much as it is.

On Monday, Ryan and I were on our way into Tesco and milling around by the entrance were a group of late teen lads, skateboards and generally mucking around

"Dad, their trousers need to be pulled up, I can see their boxers"

"Yes Ryan, but that's how they wear them, its a style and fashion thing at the moment"

"but Dad, it's wrong"

up he strides to the front of the group

"Excuse me, but can you pull your trousers up? You shouldn't wear your trousers half way down your legs. It's just scruffy"

He waited for an answer, instead got a group of lads mouthing nothing like goldfish in a bowl and satisfied he had made his point strode off in search of a trolley.

Welcome to my fascinating world, where when I am with him anything out of place, or non-routine just has to be dealt with, on the spot, with complete frankness!

I didn't know Ryan had Aspergers Rich. When was he diagnosed?

I didn't notice anything unusual (Except that he was polite) when you visited me.

about 18 months to two years ago, quite late for any autism diagnosis

preceded by behaviour problems at school/at home that got significant. Referrals to specialists and educational psychologists and the eventual diagnosis came

Autism, diagnosis of, is a tricky area as a lot of kids fall in an "overlapping" area if you imagine a Venn diagram between Autism/Aspergers/ADHD and of course a lot of kids get labelled as "naughty" or "tearaway" for a long time.

Since then anyway, we're more knowlegeable as to what makes him tick, the school is more clued up and we can both help until he's old enough to manage it all for himself.

I can imagine a Venn diagram now because I've googled it.

If what I've seen is anything to go by, Ryan will turn out just fine.

Sigh... That Andrew T. What a tosser!

5 minutes I'm waiting already.

If Mum doesn't let go of baby's hands now and then, he'll never learn to walk on his own.

Speaking of tits, I was crossing a field today when I was approached by this very striking young mum and her son.

I know you posted it somewhere, but my brain can't seem to find or remember the answer.  Where do ye stop for showers and that sort of thing when on holidays?
