Playing at the Broadway in Birmingham last night in the £20 rebuy tourney.  Managed to double up twice after the rebuy period and got my stack up to 8k with the blinds at 200/400 then this hand came up.

The player next to me on my right had joined the table a few hands previously and seemed like a good player.  He opens the pot for 2500 (around 6xBB).  The table was playing absolutely crazy with people calling raises with all sorts of hands and calling down with any pair.  As a result I didn't think his raise represented too much strength, maybe AQ, KQ, AJ (possibly) or more probably a PP 8's - J's.  I didn't think he would play Q's - A's for such a big raise.  At this point my stack was 7k to his 9k (before his bet) and the blinds were be going up to 300/600 in a few minutes.  I look down and see AKs.  I don't see calling as an option as if I miss the flop the raiser will be acting first and will bet out if there is no A or K on the board.  The odds of hitting one of your cards on the flop is 2/1 and calling the bet is only offering 1.25/1.  If I raise all in it will cost him another 4.5k and leave him crippled if he loses but if he has a PP and puts me on AK or AQ then he has an easy call, 4500 to win 10100.  He also might be stealing with a less than premium hand and may lay it down.

My stack was higher than average at the table which was around 4-5k.  Do you go for broke or wait for a better spot ?

Your move...

In this spot, if i was putting him on such a wide range of hands (and more importantly not putting him on AA or KK) then i think i would have to push.

If you are unlucky he could call with a PP but even then you are only a very small underdog (i not sure but it may be 49-51 in his favour because your cards are suited) and if you are lucky he calls you with something like A-Q and then you are laughing. I would rather be in this position with A-Ks than J-J.

I think that even in early position you can not worry about someone else having a monster behind you here. If you double up surely you will have a monster stack so go for it.

Being a  fish I rarely if ever fold big slick. I should learn my lesson though as it often kicks me badly. Today playing against someone that was obviously just blind stealing and went all in time after time. This time I caught him by calling as I had K-A os. He turns over .
comes up on the flop and I am left without a chip or a chair.
In your situation outlined I would have gone for broke.

If it's the Irish guy I think you are talking about (walks with crutches?) then no it wasn't him and he's from Bearwood anyway.  I've played against him before but I busted him both times before I got a chance to see how he plays.  Seems like a real character. Funnily enough we're both from the same town in Ireland.  Wait a minute .... you're not talking about me are you ?

6xBB is a pretty big raise. depending on where you are in relation to the button i'd probably put him on something similar to you. happy to call a small all-in raise but happy to take the blinds also.
you have a huge amount of BBs left. so you fold. a better spot will arise. there really is no point in risking your tournament life in what is probably a 60/40 situation for you AT BEST.

if this player is a good player as you suiggested he most likely has a pkt pair to raise 6x  with rags he isnt raiseing that much maybe 4x   id put him on qq/jj who doesnt want to see a rag  A on the flop and have to lay down,  but in those type of comps  suited isnt a folding hand you simply have to get chips because the blinds go up so fast,  is he the 1 of the regular finalists? or 1 of the regular players? an important point to make if u know the players you know what hand to put him on,

put simple you have to set yourself all-in  if he has AA/KK good luck to him anything else its basicly a coin toss and you have to win thease to win the comp

He opens the pot for 2500 (around 6xBB).  The table was playing absolutely crazy with people calling raises with all sorts of hands

For that reason I wouldn't rule out a pair bigger than Jacks. If people call raises with nothing, then a good player might make sure they're making a mistake by doing so and will make this sort of raise with AA/KK

However, I agree with this....

in those type of comps  isnt a folding hand you simply have to get chips because the blinds go up so fast

Go all-in and hope you're ahead.

Unless you're in the blind. Then consider flat calling and betting any flop that gives you less than a straight as you'll be first to speak.
