Title: WSOP LIVE UPDATE - DAY FIVE (PROPER)
Post by: tikay on July 13, 2005, 08:36:30 PM
OK guys, lets hope we don't have a repeat of yesterday's problems today. We lost our Wireless Network, but we have found a way round it today.

The guys are just about to start, & we are all ready.

Soke to Nick Gibson, John McGrane, and Andy Black this morning - they are all buzzing & up for it.

Let's go!

Tiffany & Nick Gibson are both "stable", no change from their overnight position.

I cant see John McGrane's stack, but he looks like he's in good sahape, if body language is anything to go by.

Cant se Conor - truth to tell, I don't know him.

Conor is the young (compared to us) slight fair haired, soft spoken, agressive playing guy that sat on my right that night at Tomz cardroom

Well I looked at that site - I assume it's ActionJack's - but I still cant see Conor. All I can see are a load of pics of Paul Jackson, & heaven knows I see & hear enough of him.

Rwd-Dog - thanks. But I never got chance to see who you sat next to at Tomz, as you busted out so early......

Title: Re: WSOP LIVE UPDATE - DAY FIVE (PROPER)
Post by: tikay on July 13, 2005, 09:28:41 PM

Found him!

Conor is cool. He has slipped a bit to 300k, but he has a game plan. Once the next man busts out, he will start "playing", but as the jump is $28k, he's wisely sitting tight for now.

Chupa Chup is a suger free lolly, Nick started on them the first time he gave up smoking and then this time too. I had a heart attack in June so I had to give up my 40 a day for 40 years habit and now eat about 20 Chupa Chup lollies a day  lol

But that does mean the money jumps up now.

And they are breaking the table that Tiffany was on, so she'll have a new set of faces to bamboozle with her skills. Small delay whilsat they break a table. They have mountains of small denom chips, they need wheelbarrows to move them. I generally carry a matchbox, just in case

Nick Gibson is devestated, utterly devestated. He thinks he misplayed the hand, but I don't agree.

He was SB with K-9, he makes up, BB puts a little R in, Nick calls.

Flop is K-6-5, or similar. Nick Bets, BB raises, Nick calls. Turn is the absolute horror card. 4. BB is sat with 2-3.......So Nick had correctly deduced that BB was nicking, but a lucky turn gave him a gutshot straight.

That's a baddie.

They are apparently playing down to 27 today before the move to Binion's where it's already being set up, so say the brave downtown adventurers.  No day off, but they're starting at 3pm tomorrow which is just as good.

Down to 45 players who will net $235,390 if they are unfortunate enough to be knocked out.

Mranwhile, Ironside has gone to a comp in Aberdeen or somewhere equally dreadful. I sent him a text to wish him well, he replied thus......

"50 minutes left in rebuy period, had 5 rebuys already. Got them where I want them now".....

Beautiful!

PS - Later text said "broke my record, 12 rebuys in all".

Just saw Scotty Nguyen in the hallway.  He was having his picture taken with about 10 little kids whose parents were clearly fans.  "Grow up to be like Scotty" he instructs as they swarmed around him.  Bonkers, but very affable.

Guys & Girls

Am sitting in my hotel room feeling sicker than i can ever remember. However I have just been reading some of the messages of support on here over the past few days and feel so touched it brings a lump to the throat.

Many thanks to everyone for their support. A special mention to Paul 'Actionjack' Jackson who has been with Kal (skalie) and then me & connor throughout the past few days depite his devastation at being knocked out just before the money.

Also thanks to Dave C for his encouragement, tikay, Iwan, Big Trev,Connor and Kal for their help.

Sorry to Mrs Gwib who booked her flight 10 mins before i phoned to say i'm out and can't wait to see you.

Apologies to anyone that i've missed but i can honestly say that the support means so much over a tournament of this length.

Anyway enough of this girly stuff I'm off to get very very pissed whilst cheering Connor on as he marches his way to victory!!!!!!!!!!!!!

GO ON THE SEALEY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks littleTR!! It was very bad sportsmanship, still not over it. Laddies gave me a place in a daily final after i complained, which i turned into a weekly final place last sunday. Blinds 10 20, i raised to 200 with KK, called by one player. Flop 10 hi rainbow, I bet, he raises, I'm all in. He calls 2000 with 10 J off...turn J and I'm third out. So no...not yet m8. Grrrrr

William Hill-wrapped McGrane still in and doing OK after knocking out Lee Watkinson after calling his move with KJ.  Watkinson only had 130k and 10 4 as it turned out, so he absorbed those chips and I think they are down to 44

Players now on break.  I heard a little rumour that they were going to play straight through until the requisite number is reached -- no dinner break or anything.  But they can all have a bit of a lie-in tomorrow, including the 27 that make it to the next day.

Blinds are now a great big $12,000 - $24,000 with a $4000 ante.  Andy Black says that his million in chips isn't as much of a cushion any more with this taken into account, but he still looks confident

Well not QUITE millionaires Micky 147, but we get your drift, we sure have gained a lot of new Forum Members. The trick now is to keep them, & get them to visit the Home Page on a rgular basis, because we intend to put a lot of nice articles up on there.

And anyway, Seeley can STILL come home a millionaire. 7 and a half times over. You gotta BELIEVE!

McGrane is on 700k.  Even if he goes out now and has to settle for nearly a quarter of a million dollars, Phil has told me that William Hill intend to buy him in all expenses paid next year, so at least he'll have that to look forward to.

Every time somebody goes out or a big pot is won there is all manner of whooping.  The spectators (behind the press walkway, behind the actual tournament area) are all getting very excited.  The losing guy gets a nice round of applause but I can't help think that the audience-participation shrieking at outdraws and the like is a little unsportsmanlike.  The walk of shame is kind of paved with money though, so that must be some consolation.

Tiffany Williamson just got heads-up all-in vs Greg Raymer (there was an almighty roar a few seconds ago) Raymer had KK, she held AJ.  No ace means a double-up for Raymer and a much reduced stack of 600,000 for Tiffany.

Confusion about the break

One of the players, Bing Wang mistakenly thought it was a dinner break instead of a normal break between levels and did not return to his table in time. He was short-stacked and in jeapardy of being blinded and anted off and Andrew Black, in a show off good sportsmanship, refused to play in his absence. The rest of the table was very much in disagreement with him but finally, Wang was tracked down and play resumed.

Yes it's all getting a bit tense especially around the filmed Feature Table.  Tiffany is on there next to Greg Raymer who is next to Tim Pham (who just doubled someone up calling with AK against a pair of nines.  The flop came with a 9 on it and then the board paired clinching it and Tim Pham is looking less ahead of the field in chips than he has been all week).

Matusow now has 5,500,000 which puts him at nearly 10% of the chips in play, nearly enough for the final, although of course it's no-limit and things change pretty rapidly.

The blinds are now $1500 - $3000 with a $500 ante.  Everybody has a different opinion on how many players there are left in here (average 31).  Better just go and count them if I can get to the front.

Ironside, you WATCHED my update on Poker 425? I thought it was a phone-in. Don't tell me they have a pic up on screen.......

And this morning - I swear this is true - Davey Newth and Angie arrived in Vegas, & Angie strolled into the Press Room. At that moment - that VERY moment - the blondepoker site crashed. She left 2 minutes later, and the site returned to normal immediately.

Ohh, and I saw Royal Flush, too. And he reminded me - I'd clean forgot - that following my WSOP Cash on Monday, I owe P4C $40. I pledged, I seem to recall, 1% of my Vegas winnings to P4C. If that is wrong - I posted it somewhere - please let me know.

 8)

the rest of the table need to get themselves off to tibet... I wonder if Andy can get them in?
Well done Andy, let's hope you are appropriately rewarded with all their chips!

Dustin "Neverwin" Wolfe is OUT.

That leaves 30 players, I think.

And a big up to Andy Black. More of that, and less of the moronic, idiotic, juvenile vwhooping and hollering would do the game's image no harm at all.

Oops, another ship missing. "A young guy in a red shirt" is the word. The guy was on the feature table, maybe a Canadian.

29 players left, two to go before they quit for the day. Still touch and go whether they decide to have a dinner break, or play through. PLEASE play through, we are all aching for an early night.

Radu Butan Eliminated in 30th Place ($274,090)
Log: With the board showing Js-8d-2s-7d on the turn, Greg Raymer and Radu Butan are both all in. Raymer has 6d-5d (open-ended straight flush draw), while Butan has Qs-6s (flush draw). At the moment, Butan is in the lead with queen-high, so Raymer will need to catch a four, five, six, nine, or any diamond to eliminate Butan. The river card is the Jd, and Radu Butan is eliminated in 30th place, earning $274,090.

No Dinner Break
Log: Now that there are just 29 players remaining, play will continue without a dinner break until we are down to the final three tables (27 players). Then play will end for Day Five, and everyone will get an early night off (we hope), resuming the  World Series of Poker tomorrow at Binion's Horseshoe at 3:00 pm.

Russell Salzer Eliminated in 29th Place ($274,090)
Log: Russell Salzer pushes all-in for his last $290,000 and is called by Oskar Silow.  Silow shows Q-9.  Salzer has K-J.  The board comes 8-7-6-10-3, and Silow makes a straight, eliminating Salzer, and bumping his stack up to almost $1.5 million.

John McGrane has gradually slipped down the leader board, and he's sure sailing close to the wind right now.

I interviewed this Gentleman for Poker 425 this morning, and he came across as a really lovely, genuine, fella, who was a bit starstruck to find his 10 investment in satellites and qualifiers had ended up like this in Las Vegas.

He left for Vegas last week worrying how to pay a 3,000 tax demand, and now he's looking to take home $300,000 if he can survive one more spot, $275k-ish if not.

He's a London cabbie by trade, and dresses as smartly as any Poker player I have seen. Black shoes, highly polished, a crease in his trousers, beautiful, crisp, new Wm Hill Shirt, smart cap, good manners.

TO BE CONTINUED LATER, BECAUSE THE NEWS IS....

OUT IN 28th SPOT - GREGORY RICE, of BIRMINGHAM ALABAMA

I was going to say i've had the fortune to play with many of the world's great players but really its a mis-fortune they are awesome..
the likes of Negranu Hellmuth Lederer Brunson Reese the late great Stu Ungar and Johnny Moss all class acts but the one guy who made the hairs on the back of neck tingle................................

PHIL IVEY

I just think it would be great if from 5700 odd runners our World Champion could be someone of the class of Ivey

Indeed Tikay Andy Black's seems to be playing great I wish him all the Best...........but do you fancy a 100 last longer bet Ivey vs. Black !!! You know you like taking money off me !!!

It is all over for the day - the final player has been eliminated and the remaining 27 are looking forward to coming down to Binion's tomorrow with a guaranteed prize of an amazing $304,680.

A little notice has suddenly appeared on the press room door notifying us that one hour after play finishes we must have removed all our stuff from here or it will be thrown away.  Brief and to the point.  So we better get the cables and such and remove them before they get chucked.

Tomorrow we'll be reporting live from Binion's Harrah's ex-horseshoe or whatever it's called now.  See you then.

like Gareth says Ivey is in a league of his own, not just for his game but for him classy table image and composure. Other than the English players, I hope he's top the pile and most of all I hope Matusow gets knocked out soon because I couldn't bear that horrible excuse for a human being getting a second more coverage than is absolutely necessary.

The best of luck to Sealey later today and what a buzz.

Sealey can do it - he's a great player.  Bring it to the north west sealey.

great sportsmanship shown by Andy Black - I can't believe the others would have played on and let him be anted and blinded out.  What a horrid bunch.

Greg Raymer has done well to get back up the standings.  Fancy his chances for a back to back?  That would really blow the luck theory out the water and confirm the skill factor is extremely high at this level of play.

Matusow is not a good ambassador for the sport.  I'm certainly not cheering him on.

yes you are mate.

He's a thoroughly unpleasant man, abusive and rude, possibly THE worst avert for poker players.
Mike Matusow represents everything wrong with TV poker players and encourages offensive behaviour by up coming amatures.

Throwing his cards in the dealers face, come on.

I know he can play a bit but he's the kind of guy who sees hte world as the story of himself and everyone else are side characters. My least favourite kind of person.

I know some say trash talk is part of a poker player's arsenal but I don't think it should be allowed.  Poker is exploding around the world and could be on the verge of going mainstream.  We already have too many sporting/celebrity icons with bad behaviour.  I hope poker doesn't follow suit.

Better for the sport if someone like Raymer, Ivey or similar won.  Both are great players with superb composure.  They exude a professional image which the sport clearly deserves.

Said me piece.  Now, "NURSE!!"

I do dislike Phil Laaks behaviour but in a different way. He's just being a prat. He thinks he's an entertainer and is doing it for that reason. Matusow is just a thug and I'd find it so hard not to give him a slap if it were me. The composure of Raymer when Matusow was up in his face last year was the most impressive thing about his whole performance.

of course he refused to shake his hand after the abuse he had taken. shall we have a whip round and offer a blonde bounty on Matusow. maybe $10.

Ivey to win (or any remaining brit). shear class. I know he's dull but I sometimes get a bit sick of all the razzamataz (spelling, never written that down before).
Why have ALL poker players got to have nicknames.
We're not wrestlers or cowboys or pirates, we don't need the nick names.
Ivey is a calm, polite, cerebral guy who's giving 100% every minute of the tournament.
Not exactly an ambassador for the game because he says nothing but certain;y an example for the gobby gits to follow.
