Thanks for the top info. It sounds very much like pot luck and you could end up with a lesser ranked hotel for the same price. I should probably scan through this thread and see what info I can pick up.
Thanks.

The thread is getting a bit long, here's a suggestion:
1. Get your exact dates. 2 days earlier or 2 days later, the price could be $1k different.
2. Once you have your exact dates, you are 30 mins away from getting the best price.
3. Plug them into the hotel websites directly e.g.
www.mirage.com
4. Log in to Harrahs/MGM reward sites, if you have any previous with them, even better, see what rates they offer eg
www.mlife.com
5. Log into 3rd party websites. Comparison hotel websites, travel websites. There are millions, so as many as you can be bothered, one of them is doing a better rate. e.g.
www.lowcostusa.co.uk
or
www.triavago.co.uk
6. Check out discount code websites e.g.
www.smartervegas.com
7. Post up here the dates and the best rate (remember to specify if RF+tax is included or not, for comparison) and chances are someone will suggest a couple of alternatives that are better and/or cheaper.
I don't mind doing that for anyone that takes a bit of effort to help themselves. Sometimes, someone just says "thinking of going to Vegas next year, what's the best price?" and somehow expects someone else to do the spadework.

Looking at booking flights via Dublin wondering if anyone has any experience of this. Couple of questions;
Do your bags get checked in straight through to Vegas? The connecting flights out still have an overnight in Gatwick.
On the return flight is it possible to avoid the Dublin flight and just get on another flight home instead?

not 100% sure re the first question but I think they will go straight through
re the return you used to be able to only check bags to LHR/LGW and avoid last flight but sometimes they are being funny about that recently (BA more so than VA) the way to make sure you are ok with this is to fly into one of LHR/LGW and make the connection re the other then you will have to collect your bags so will be ok
Some say that by connecting overnight on your return you can get bags collected in London by saying you need them for the overnight stay

Cheers Rotty.
We have just talked to someone who worked at an airport for aer lingus and they advised that as long as we tell them at Vegas on the return that we want the bags back in Gatwick we should get them.
Thanks Adam too but think we all have got it that you have a job in Vegas this summer, seen it on about 4 threads now...

Should be safe there, neither of the readers noticed.

there is a thread on V-flyer where folks have had issues doing this recently but I think they were on BA flights, most have still been ok though

the casinos should sort it out for you. at venetian/wynn they asked everyone for their forms as the jumps hit the 5k mark (thats when the tax kicks in for US players). as soon as the floor saw my UK passport they filled in a form so I had an ITIN and paid no tax
WSOP will do it for you at the payout area.

This will not happen in the smaller casinos, esp downtown, like the Nugget and Binions. I talk from my own personal experience and hassle of getting it sorted.

When I got mine, (it is called an ITIN) which tbf was a long time ago, the TD didn't seem very interested in doing it. SO I made it very clear to the dealer and the TD at the table that I was happy to tip for the service and the effort, but if they weren't going to do that, I wouldn't be tipping. Lo and behold, I soon had the paperwork completed.
It may be impossible in a venue where the policy is to not do it and there's nothing the staff can do about it. But worth some grease to not go through the ballache of having to claim it back later, if it makes a difference.

Sure would agree with this 100%. Or don't fall into a trap i could have got out of easily at the Nugget when i cashed for just over $5k. Just try and agree a deal even if it involves giving a bit of ev away to get slightly under the $5k threshold for tax rather than cash for slightly more and have the hassle of sorting out the tax issue in a non mainstream casino.
