A photo would help, but I'm guessing you're talking about a teacake.

http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=breadcake

This is a Breadcake.....

These are rolls....

Wtf are you lot on? Its clearly a barmcake!

Leeds folk seem to take this personally as I was once told to leave a pub and then threatened to be shot for calling it a chip barm Sad

Apologies. I posted rather absent mindedly, in a quandary as ever.

Title of thread should be "Cob, ROLL, Other?"

And in Kent they say roll. I should know, that's where I'm from.

Furthering the discussion, I would wager that the word roll is a shortened version of the word "sweetroll". Back in the day, a bygone era, such a word was commonplace, however now it is seldom used. The sweetroll has evolved from being another word for a dessert or tea cake to being savoury, relating to meat and pickle and sandwichlike accoutrements. Such as gherkins.

Bun may also be making the savoury transition, like a thief in the night. Or a cunning ninja snail.

Buttie is right out (a la Monty Python's Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch count of three, FIVE IS RIGHT OUT, the number shall be THREE). This is specifically a sandwich containing chips or bacon. Possibly egg but that's verging on offensive.

Cob seems alien to me. Breadcake also. WTF is a barmcake?!

As for bap, in Kent you can get away with it. But there will be a smirk from someone.

Buns

Much like Federer vs Nadal, Hendry vs White and Magic Johnson vs Larry Bird; baps and buns will always be trying to out-do each other. Much like the sporting rivalries the real winners are the spectators.
