OK guys lets get things rolling!!

How about this for your early starter.

How many minutes into today will it take the first person to get knocked out?

And, what will be that players nationality?

As a guide it was 20 minutes yesterday and the player was British.

Hi gang.  :hello:

The second day is always tough to update. Once you whittle down to 60 or so on Day 1A, then go back up to 150 on Day 1B, you tend to feel like you're going backwards. However, once it gets going, and you see all the new faces, everything soon feels fresh again. I'm very much looking forward to another exciting day, it's going to be nigh on impossible to top yesterday, but I reckon we're going to come close.

Plenty of familiar faces to keep a track of. As soon as they start piling in, I'll jot down a few names. Off the top of my head, I'm pretty sure I recall seeing Andy Black, Greg Raymer, and Erik Seidel on the list. The latter is possibly, in my opinion, one of the most underrated players around, a quiet assassin of sorts. I hope he goes far as I think it'll be interesting to see how he plays.

If things go quiet for a moment, it'll be because we've popped out for a quick bite. The service is pretty slow, but we'll get back on asap.

Watch this space guys. Should be a good en.

We are about to start. I have spotted lots of names but they are not seated yet so hard to check out the 'action' tables.

I have seen 2 EPT winners on the same table, Mark Teltcher and Noah Boken.

Anyway of for some snaps, some names, and the first exit!

Cascarino smirks, shakes his head, and mucks.

There was a big event in the US that just finished. US Headsup championship, throw in that they have a $10,000 event almost every week and the idea of travelling all the way to MC becomes less attractive.

Matyeboy cubed news now.

Board = Kd 8s 6h 7c Qs

MB#1 checks.

MB#2 bets 300.

MB#3 raises to 1k.

MB#1 folds.

MB#2 raises to 2.2k.

MB#3 moves all-in.

MB#2 calls.

Can u guess the hands? Tough one this.

MB#2 = 9d Td

MB#3 = 9s Ts

The amatuer dramatics made me laugh.  :D

I think the whole table knew they both had the nuts before they pushed all-in, but both still oohed and aahed before moving their chips. hehe

because it's a European event I guess.

They already have massive tourneys over there, no real need to travel over this way.

Brian Wilson is down to the felt.

All-in preflop with pocket queens.

Unfortunatley, he ran into bullets.

'Let me get lucky just this once,' he begged the poker gods.

Unfortunately, they didn't reply.

Qc Qd v Ad Ac

6c 2h Kc Ahrt 3c

Immediately after, he stormed out of the room and has yet to return.

He's down to 1,450 and looks pretty pissed off.

Martin Cavanagh just lost a big pot to Ben Grundy.

There were a few limpers and Martin made it 350 with  Ahrt Kc

2 players called one of which was Ben Grundy.

The flop came  Ad 9d 5c

Ben and mateyboy checked, Martin bet 1250 Ben called Mateyboy passed.

Turn   Aspades

Ben checks, Martin bets 1750, Ben calls.

River  3s

Ben now fires out 3000, Martin Calls.

Ben shows  2d 4d for the wheel!

Joe Hachem has clearly been taking tips off Thewy on yoyoing.

After losing a few early pots, he moved all-in with Q-9 on a Q-9-rag flop.

He found a call in Mateyboy's pocket jacks.

The two pair held up and Joe is back up to 7.5k.

I caught up with Julian Gardner before the break, he lost most of his chips on hand 1!!!
Mateyboy#6271 raised and he re-raised with  Qc Qd, Mateyboy#6271 called.

Flop came  5d 7c 9s

Mateyboy#6271 leads out, Julian calls.

Turn  5c

Mateyboy#6271 bets again, Julian calls.

River  7d

Mateyboy#6271 fires the third bullet, Julian calls.

Mateyboy#6271 held  6d 8c for a flopped straight!

Julian then found himself on 4k when he held  Ad Jc on a  5d 5s 2d 7d board, Mateyboy#837 bet 1000, Julian moved in, Mateyboy#837 made the call with  Jd 9d and Julian missed his 7 outter.

He seems to not be to bothered though, its the first time i have met him and he seems like a top bloke......even if he is from Manchester.

Greg Raymer -- 9.5k

Greg raised to 300 preflop and received one caller.

Guess who it was! Yep, Mateyboy again.

Flop = Jh 4c 9s

Greg bet 500, Mateyboy calls.

Turn = 3d

Mateyboy comes out betting, 650.

Greg makes it 2.1k.

Mateyboy moves all-in.

Greg reluctantly folds, although my spider senses informs me that he was being a bit of a bully.

Hi everybody (what a crowd blonde has at the moment) - I only have a minute as Snoops is literally breathing down my neck (and it's not a terribly pleasant sensation) to say THANKS for all nice stuff you had to say, and the support for not just me, but all the blondeites.  You can almost imagine ghostly railers watching - like Ben whom I know now is taking the day off work to hang around on the forum...shocking.

Anyway after the great fun I had on the Unusual Suspects, it is just a bit of cake-icing to have a bunch of chips at the end of Day One.  I hope to play well tomorrow, or at least in a manner to entertain the Press (who were a bit snooty about letting me back in the blonde team, hmmf).

I will be railing along with my Mum who most definately qualifies for PRO membership as she was three feet away from me all day and all night yesterday, and watched every hand.  :)

Oh, and Dana, no more hideous photographs of me.  The consequences will be dire.

And tikay, I know you're feeling a bit low, but we would all be happy to see you out here, or in a cardroom near you soon...  ;tk;

A few minor hands:

(1)

2.5k pot preflop.

Flop comes Qd 9c 2c

Scandieboy checks from cut-off.

A very intense looking Lee Nelson bets 1.7k.

Scandieboy folds.

(2)

Mateyboy raises to 300 preflop from the cut-off.

Sverre smooth calls from the button.

Flop = 9c Tc 7c

check, check

Turn = Jc

MB bets 400, Sverr calls.

River = 2h

check, check.

MB = Ahrt Qs

Sverre = 5c 5s

Joe possibly put him on an Ace with a flush draw - his all-in makes sense with this holding. Joe would then be a slight favourite.

He also getting nearly 2.5/1 pot odds - I think it's an ok call.

Any chance of a chip count/pics of Rory Mathews and Colin Gerard?

Cheers in advance!

Just so you know, that was not me yesterday talking to you about Ian Girwood, it was Scottish Dave who hopped on the computer at the Cincinnati Club when I was logged in.

I got your pm this morning and I had no idea what was going on. :D

If you still want the rub though ask Dave, I am sure he would oblige :D

Great job on the threads guys, it is fantastic stuff

Jen I never met you but feel like I know you. Congrats so far, all the best.

Joe possibly put him on an Ace with a flush draw - his all-in makes sense with this holding. Joe would then be a slight favourite.

He also getting nearly 2.5/1 pot odds - I think it's an ok call.

OK, so I guess when youve got 7 mill you can afford to gamble your tournament life on what is best a coin flip.

I'm sure Sklansky would agree :)

Just catching up with this for the first time today.

The lack of big name Americans is probably to do with the WSOP Circuit Event in Rincon.  I guess the Poker Stars featured players (Raymer, Hachem and Co) are in Monte Carlo at the behest of Stars, but most others will have likely played the WSOP event.

Incredibly, the Rookie has been grinding like he's never ground before.

Well, he's never actually ground at all. This is his first time.

Lurking in the background, however, is his mentour, Julian Thew.

It seems to be working as Brian's patience has been rewarded.

Ha ha, you're right. So wrapped up was I in odds and cards, I completely missed the fact that Hachem was calling off all his chips.

Nevertheless, there was 10K in the pot, therefore Joe must have put nearly 5K of his 11.5K in with AK. Given he's already put half his stack in, he'd have done that knowing he wasn't going to fold if he flops TPTK. I stick by my original post - I'm not folding in this situation.

MB reraises to 3k.

Sverre sighs heavily before folding from the small blind.

PokerGirl mucks a lot quicker.

Do you have a picture of Colin Gerard?

Afraid not snoopy, just checked a couple of poker sites and googled for him but to no avail.

He is about 45, baldish (though he is almost certain to be wearing a cap), relatively small chap (add your own punchline here), wears specs, always has an i-Pod nano on the go and will most probably have his usual beige satchel over the back of his seat.

The one thing that might give him away is that he won his seat through William Hill so may be wearing some branded gear.

Don't worry if you can't spot him, I appreciate that you guys are busy and are doing a great job.

MB#2 calls.

Mickey had A6 on a A45 flop when he took out Bengt. Mickey raised Bengt's 500 bet another 2k, Bengt called. Turn paired the board with another 4. The River was a 6, after which Mickey set Bengt all in. Bengt called and was eliminated, but never showed his hand.

Interesting story about the final table of his online qualifier for this event...

5 left with 4 seats on offer, Colin is short stack with something like 10k left and blinds at 3k - 6k. He is UTG and passes. Next guy pushes all in with AQ for something like 65000 only to be called by the BB who has KK (the call uses up a large proportion of his stack apparently).

KK stands up and the other guy is out, gifting Colin and his short stack a seat! My question is, geven the senario, would anyone else have just passed the KK in the BB and waited for the blinds to pass through (and most likely kill) Colin?

If I ever pay 20 Euros for a burger, I'd expect it to take a long time to arrive.

Selecting which cow to slaughter and having the pope bless the lettuce for you must take a whiley.

Cheers for the update on Colin, AlrightJack.

Bad raise, bad call methinks

Yep, with shortie on BB next hand, surely the play is for everyone to pass this hand, then UTG min-raise next hand, and everyone call, then check it down. Of course, they'd all have to independently realise this was the correct play, without anyone actually saying as much...

Secondly, its the dinner break so i have bugger all idea where he is. Probably eating a bit of lettuce or something.

Mickey doesn't particularly like the worm. Somebody started calling him the legend last year, which he is, so its stuck. Feel free to carry on calling him the worm though, there's no law against having two nicknames.

Seeing as the good Mr. Raab and Flushy have gone for dinner "a little way down the beach" I have commandeered this laptop and will try to assist Snoopy until they return.

Like with some hands I saw while wandering around:

A rather harried-looking MilkybarKid was on the button, and a short stack raised to 700.  He flat called, and so did big blind Greg Raymer.  The flop came 4s jd 2d and Raymer bet out 2k, which almost put the short stack in the cutoff all-in.  He took the plunge, Ben folded and Raymer called the little bit extra.
Greg:  Ad 4d
Matey:  9d 9h

The turn and river were inconsequential (in other words, no A no diamond) and the little guy took a bite out of Pokerstars Posterboy (and general all-round nice chap) Raymer.

The reason Ben Grundy is looking annoyed is that even with his reasonable 16k or so, getting his Aces cracked by Queens, all in on an 8 8 2 flop has rattled him.  He has plenty, but I am sure it's the space where the 24k total used to be that he's looking at.

Hi - I first said hi to the rookie near the start of today and he was very subdued indeed and held up under 2k!  I went out to see a sight or two with my Mum, and when I got back he had 16,000!  I think not deciding "now I don't have a lot of chips I might as well go in with anything" has saved his bacon, and chipped him right back up... He's in better spirits. :)

Kevin Daly is OUT

He raised to 500 preflop from the button. The small blind and under the gun limper both call.

Flop = Kc 4h Aspades

check, check, Daly bets 1.5k.

Scandieboy in the small blind calls, under the gun folds.

Turn = Kd

Scandieboy bets just 1k and Daly moves all in.

Scandieboy dwells momentarily, actually thinking he may be beat, and then calls.

Scandieboy = 4d 4s

Daly = Ac Jc

He's a gonna...

After some preflop action, table neighbours Les Kerrighan and Martin Green cross swords briefly.

Les bets 1.2k on a Q-2-3 flop, Martin reraises to 3k, Les folds.

Ben Grundy survives an all-in.

On a ten high flop, Mateyboy moves all-in for 7k on the button.

Grundy dwells momentarily before call-in all-in for 6k with A-T.

Mateyboy flips over A-K.

No King arrives and Ben quite literall breathes a huge sigh of relief.

Thanks Mel - sorry I have been so lame at replying to stuff - phone a bit dead and anyway Orange France or Orange Monaco or whatever acts a bit funny and provides beeping instead of service some of the time...

I got to wander around not just the poker room but an actual town on this trip - we went in the bit of the Casino de Monte Carlo which you can kind of just walk into.  Like I remember tikay saying last time, it is just mind-bogglingly extravagant and opulent in an old-school way (huge chandeliers, gold columns, big paintings of wispily clad ladies etc.).  In contrast the Monte Bay is all sleek and funny shaped and high ceilinged and brand spanking new.

I haven't had time to read the whole update in detail, but I know a pic of that fountain that looks like a dandelion is up.  Cool.

How is Blondite Tommy (A2M) doing?

He's on 28.8k after eliminating Jeff Burke (NenoBear)

Tommy raised to 800 from under the gun with A-K, Jeff reraised all-in for 4.5k from the big blind with A-T, Tommy called.

Flop brought a ten, but Tommy straightened and flushened on the river (sooooo greedy)

Brian would have hit a full house if he'd have played his pocket threes. Then the Rookie really would have been up and running.

A quick tale from Barny Boatman.

With virtually the whole table limping, Barny sees a cheap flop of 8-5-2 with 5-2 on the button.

Everyone checks round to Barny who bets his two pair.

The blinds both fold, but underthegun, Richard Ashby, moves all-in. Barny calls.

Turn = 4

River = A

Ashby wins with trips aces.

Ouch.

That never happens to me!  ;tk;

Tony Bloom is OUT.

I'm certain of that, well pretty sure...

Hmm. Come to think of it, I'm not 100%.

He might be out, looks doubtful now.

Hold on, I'd better check.

That never happens to me!  ;tk;

Hopefully because you don't play Aces as badly as that.  :D

You know when you limp with aces underthegun praying for a raise that never comes.

Well, I always get justly buggered by the flop, but I never hit the reoutdraw.

grr. this guy did.

Brian moved his shortstack all-in from the button for 1.5k.

After asking 'how much is it', the big blind glances at his cards, mulls it over, then lets Brian off the hook.

'I've only looked at one,' explains Brian.

he flips over the Ac, then the Aspades to go with it.

That's five pocket rockets Brian's been ealt today.

Ben Grundy (milkybarkid) has shot up to 32k after making a cracking call.

An agressive player who has shown a few bluffs previous to this hand limps preflop. Ben raises with pocket jacks, Mateyboy calls.

Flop = 2-T-A

check, check

Turn = 6

Mateyboy checks, Ben bets 2k, Mateyboy raises to 5k, Ben calls.

River = T

Mateyboy bets a menacing 9k.

The call would leave Ben with just 2k, but he is able to push in the chips and take the pot down with his two hooks.

Mateyboy grimaces, shows K-J, and chucks his cards into the muck.

Jen here again -

Vicky Coren News Now -

Having steadily built chips today, she was just involved in a couple of dramatic hands, firstly losing then gaining a stack of yellows (1k).

So - on the first hand, it was a small vs big blind battle.  The small blind either limped or made a small raise (don't know which one) and she raised 1,000.  Call.

Flop: Jh JD 8d  check - check.
Turn: 2s  He bets 2k, call.
River:  3c  Matey moves all in and she eventually passes.

THEN he flashed his hand to a mate of his and Andy Black saw it and insisted they all get a peek (fair's fair).  It turned out the guy had  Ac 5c... Vicky kept her composure although she got involved in an 11k pot fairly shortly afterwards.  She came out on the right side of it though, betting 4k out of her remaining 7k or so on the river with the board:
 Ahrt5h5c9d Kd

Her opponent this time went into the tank for at least a couple of minutes, but eventually she took it.  A little up, overall then.

More from Jen -

Peter Roche is out, having had a bit of a "small non-connected cards" day - and capping it off with getting it all in with 9s 9c on a 10 10 8 board, getting called by Ad Kh which rivered the Ace.  Has that resigned look which says, "that was a bummer."  I think he said his intention was to play online...

Brian Wilson is OUT

After just this moment moving to the feature table, The Rookie has probably experienced the shortest TV appearance in history.

The very first hand, Brian moves all-in with pocket threes. Unfortunately, he ran into pocket nines and a lack-lustre K-2-5-7-Q flop.

Anyway, I hope your office ladies get a game together.  And kick your arse. Flushy says that isn't too hard in any case.

Andy Black takes a HUGE hit vs Mr Mimran.

I am not sure how the money went in but by the end of the hand Andy's AA was no good vs the A5d which had made the nut flush!

Look at all those chips!

Greg Raymer getting a little heated.

After 2 limpers, he raised from 300 to 1300, as he threw in his chips a freak thing happened, the 3 x 100 chips obscured his 1k chip from the rest of the table.

Alan Betson announces call from the SB and puts 150 in, Greg then points out he raised and Alan wants to now take his 150 back. TK!!!!!!!!

The big man bowls in, he makes the common sense ruling that the 150 should be allowed to be taken back, given the freak placement of the chips.

Post rulling the multi millionaire didnt seem to happy about the loss of 150 (i guess $5,000,000 doesnt go very far these days....)

Infact he made it very clear while big TK was still by the table that it is a bad ruling and even if the dealer had announced 150 he would expect to have still had it left in the pot. Big TK looked as if he was about to say something but then just gazed down at Raymer and walked off. Does he ever get in an arguement?

Just seen a call for a ruling on Andy Black's table. Mateyboy picked up a bunch of chips and counted them out over the line, cutting them into 4 piles and then withdrawing his hand with some chips still in it. Vicky Coren, who was not in the hand called for a ruling saying "either all the chips over the line should go, or just the first pile he cut out".

They were cut out in the standard way, in one continuous movement.

Andy Black did not seem amused, thinking this was pointless. He may have a point.

Big TK came over and said it was fine as long as the cutting out was in one continous movement, but to avoid confusion, in future they should be counted out before being put over the line.

Tommy (Ace2M) is down to 18.2k.

After some preflop action, we see a flop of Td 5s 8c.

Ace2M checks, Mateyboy bets 1k, Ace2M flat calls.

Turn = 7c

Ace2M checks, Mateyboy bets 2.3k, Ace2M calls.

River = 3d

Check, check.

Mateyboy takes it down with Q-T, Ace2M mucks.

Next door to this table is a game of Chinese poker. It's scored on a points system, players in the game i saw were Ram Vaswani, Erik Sagstrom and Patrick Antonious. Patrick is learning the game as he goes.....costly at €1,000 a point!

Ram is up about €60,000.

The problem with this is, its day 1!!! Imagine what the stakes will be come day 4!

Barny Boatman is OUT

He lost a big pot to Richard Ashby previous to his exit hand where Ashby flush draw flushed up on the turn.

Not long after, Barny pushes his remaining 5k in with pocket deuces, only to run into Ashby yet again who called with K-Q.

A queen on the flop looked to have sealed Barny's fate, but he still had a flush draw with one of his deuces. A club nor a two came, and Barny is booted from the TV table.

Jim Kerrighan takes down a massive pot against Surinder Sunar who has done a big chunk of yellow chips.

With a board of 6c 9c 6d 2h Jh

Jim bets the river, Surinder makes a huge reraise, Jim calls.

Jim = Kc Kd

Surinder announces Ace King.

The fellow who eliminated him looks to be chip leader. grr, possibly more than Jen.

Anyhow, Andy mucked his cards at the end, but, according to Ace2M, he called his opponent right down to the river and then chucked them in when he saw he'd run into pocket kings. A pair and a possible flush was on the board, so Andy clearly wasn't too strong, top pair perhaps?

Mickey Wernick is getting busy.

On a board of  9s 8d 6h 8h 4c his 6k bet is eventually called. He taps the table and shows a 7. His oppo, J9, he points to the Jack to say that was enough!!

A few hands later the same oppo raised, Mickey pushed his 9k stack all in, after a long dwell AQ was passed face up, Mickey shows his 77!!!

Not likely Snoops, just come from Mickeys table and there is a monster stack there, 2 biggies collided, AT ended up ahead of JJ, i have no idea when, how, or what the hands made and when.

Sufice to say he is around the 80k mark.

Right guys, I've done a bit of detective work and found out some cheeky chippy counts for you. When the dramtic music played announcing the end of Day 1B, I quickly nipped down the aisles for a quick gander at some of the bag labels. You'll have to excuse some of the spelling mistakes, they write their own labels and some have a tendancy to scribble. Some of these players are sooooooooo selfish.  ::)

Ross Boatman -- 34,950
Eddy Scharf -- 10,050
Mark Teltscher -- about 15k
Mimran -- 88.650
Phillip Hilm -- 35,200
Greg Raymer -- 7,325
Emile Petit -- 9,350
Sverre -- 47,450
Vicky Coren -- 19,450
Dennis Skaarup -- 6,850
Thomas Petersen -- 14,775
Arden Creasy -- 26,950

Playing with andy black was fantastic and it was almost a pleasure to give him a few of my chips and we split an all in when we both held AK.

Mateyboy who took him out is also the guy who crippled him earlier on an A high board with two diamonds, andy had aces and mateyboy A5 of diamonds, and he made the flush. Personally i think the guy was rubbish and hope i am on his table tomorrow, he has a huge tell very vocally pointed out by andy black.

i ended with 18250. bit disapointing but i was card dead for the last two levels and called off 5k with top pair and got outkicked by J to Q.

We're yet to receive the end-of-day chip counts. I believe they have to be manually inputted into the computer before they do the rounds in cyber space.

For now though, here's a quick reminder of yesterday's chippies counts:

End of day counts:

MASON, JENNIFER -- 62500
ANTON, IONEL -- 58050
WILLIAMS, JEFF -- 52925
BRISCOE, LEE -- 49100
WAHLROOS, THOMAS -- 46275

LODDEN, JOHNNY -- 42150
HALLIDAY, TERENCE -- 37450
LUSKE, MARCEL -- 36475

Sadly not mon ami.

Good luck though, takes a bit of getting used to starting with 400 chips and blinds of 1-2!!

My first thought was, why not just multiply everything by 100 in your head.

Probably a bad plan though, when you decide to raise in the first round saying "I'll make it 300"

I have just recieved an education in Chinese poker from Ram.

Looks fun for maybe £1 a point!

Apparently $2k a point is not enough, so they doubled it to $4k for the last 4 hands and Erik took a beating. Patrick Antonious won 96k in those last 4 hands!!

Ram was the sole winner though $236,000 up!

Its a different world isnt it.....how do you win $236,000 in such a short space of time?  Are there any other intersting big money games going on?

Next door to this table is a game of Chinese poker. It's scored on a points system, players in the game i saw were Ram Vaswani, Erik Sagstrom and Patrick Antonious. Patrick is learning the game as he goes.....costly at €1,000 a point!

Ram is up about €60,000.

The problem with this is, its day 1!!! Imagine what the stakes will be come day 4!

Is this a skill game or a gambling game?

Do you know if ZeeJustin is playing this event?  Sorry I keep missing pages at a time, because of the professional and speedy updates.  :)up . I don't have time to keep up to date.

Good Luck and excellent job folks

Can't it be both?  :D

Chinese Poker is an odd game - you generally hear of it being played by absolute top pros for big money. Essentially, each player gets 13 cards and has to split them up into two 5 card hands and a 3 card hand - you then compare all the players' hands with each other and win a point for each hand you beat and lose a point for each hand that loses.

Whilst there is skill in it, the skill/luck ratio is lower than other forms of poker - even at €1000 a point, competent players should just be pushing the money around between each other.

Of course, if you get a moneybags novice who wants to show he can play the big boy's game (Antonius) it can prove very profitable.

There is one of the online poker rooms where you can play Chinese Poker, certainly for play money, probably real as well. Can't for the life of me remember which one though.
