Title: 3D TV
Post by: maldini32 on July 07, 2011, 11:29:04 AM
I'm thinking of buy one but a couple of my mates said once the novelty wears off they're just shit.

I however think they're really good and am seriously contemplating buying one.

Anyone got one? What are they like? Would you recommend?

Wait for the ones without the need for glasses

I want one but the missus is dead against it. Got TVs all over the gaff as it is. Once gaming gets a bit more 3D orientated then its bang on.

Hopefully they'll be a bit better than the Nintendo 3D DS or w/e it's called which supposedly gave a lot of people a headache - though I can't see how watching 3D without the glasses wouldn't give you a headache.

I watched the FA Cup final in 3D (was my first time) and was absolutely blown away by how good it looked. Only downside is the glasses, they're really annoying.

Any idea when they're being releases?

Pretty sure there are a couple about in hotels/exhibitions already, one in Dubai i believe.
Only really guessing but would be surprised if they were not on sale by the end of next year, obv gonna be crazy $$ at first though.

Nintendo relies on you having your eyes in the right place, others have technology that tracks your eyes and beams the correct images into each eye.

I have one. A Samsung 46" - Model  UE46C7000WKXXU. The sport in 3D is immersive. The first few times you watch it you miss the action and just look at the depth - if you know what I mean. But once the novelty of the 3D wears off and you're watching the action again, it is very immersive.

To be honest, I watch very little in 3D, including sport, but that's probably mainly due to the recent change in my domestic arrangements :) . Mind you, there is very little 3D content atm and that includes 3D blu-ray discs.

Luckily, the 2D picture is spectacularly good too on my model.

Put an open tin of tuna on the radiator and hey presto! it's like they're in the room with you

i was put off because my 4 year old wears glasses and wears an eye patch 3 hours a day. would he still be able to still watch the 3d and get the benefit?

sorry to hear about your daughter and i hate to tell you that while ever she has the eye patch on she wouldn't see the benefit of 3dtv. I work for BskyB and ran a truck for a few weeks, we had people coming on the stand to check out 3D, one guy said he couldn't see it.. turns out he was blind in one eye

ok cheers. its actually my son (dont do girls got 3 boys). Alister James (Ace Jack is my biggest leak) wears a patch for 3 hours a day and we are actually at the hospital eye clinic today. i see people wearing the 3d specs over their normal glasses in the cinema so hopefully he will get the 3d benefit if/when we upgrade.

do you think it will be long before the 3d tv's without the need for glasses come out over here. Hopkins suggestion to goto Dubai to check em out seems a bit excessive but then again thats how he rolls.

i don't think they will be coming any time soon tbh. Nintendo have had a lot of bad press re the 3DS giving headaches etc and when i saw one the other day i thought the 3D was terrible. if it's any consolation i wear glasses and have no problem with 3D glasses over my glasses, in fact i cannot feel any difference but i have heard people who don't wear glasses complaining about wering them for it
