Hiding in the air conditioned comfort of the press bar (for this is really what it is - complete with stage at the front of the room on to which I half expect to see John Duthy and the Pokerstars Dancers in cabaret) we see a few players trickling in to mill around a half hour before play starts.

Marc Goodwin was descending the stairs just now, in company with DTD's Dave Colclough and played-yesterday Michael Greco.  I am amazed at the numbers of players who've already spent 12 hours in here coming back when there is a lot of beach and multiple pleasant bars literally seconds away... Ryan Fronda is one of these self-admittedly "suffering from sickness," but he's actually got a purpose to being here today...

Also playing (probably - they're here):  Luca Pagano
Isabelle Mercier
Daniel Negreanu
Doobs
Martin Wendt
Dario Minieri
Iwan Jones

Off for a fuller scout in a minute - any other requests?

Ten minutes until supposed start, and players are drifting around, the more famous, like Liz Lieu, being interviewed by one of several media outfits with cameras of the moving sort, and the less famous just clumping around the gaming tables or outside the tournament area, where the neat 10k stacks of chips wait by each seat.

Spotted:

Jan Sjavik
Ben Grundy
Praz Bansi
Humberto Brenes
Jonas Molander
Karl Mahrenholz
John Shipley

Meanwhile the cash games, helpfully located at the opposite corner of the casino to the tournament (I seem to remember last year's organisation of the room being somewhat chaotic) look like they haven't wound down since 2am yesterday...a list of around 30 names seems to build for every game by about 7pm and then they get shouted out when their seats become available at a pitch and volume that would make Black Sabbath cringe.
"EEE CEEE HOLD'EM!"  The shouter lurks right outside the entrance to the press room and every time I get caught in the verbal fire I feel like telling them that yes, I am C.V. - where is my seat, here is my money - just don't shout at me any more...

So who's sitting where?  That's always the first question of an update...

Let's start with Ian Woodley.  The mouthy Brit is going to get a good deal of photographic and possibly film coverage, because he's drawn the seat next to Greg 'World Champion of Poker Quite Recently' Raymer.

Both are pictured looking decidedly underwhelmed with each other.

David 'doobs' Barraclough draws two to the left of Ryan 'the lion' Fronda, who looks like he's doing that hand telescope thing.  I am waiting for him to intimidate his table: "I squish your head," etc. etc.

I was trying to snap the small figures of Paul Gourlay and Thomas Wahlroos in the background of this photo, but actually thought it might be interesting to present you with the view from the rail which is made of slot machines, like Swampland 2.  It looks like the premise of this is some kind of inter-amphibian-reptile war, where each side looks hungry and ready to devour the other.  If you look closely, the frog is doing that kung fu beckon thing which precedes a fight... no idea what you get when you put money in this thing.

Finally, Dusk Til Dawn's Kevin O'Connell and Dave Colclough, spotted having a pregame chat.  Realising the camera was on them, this was the result.  Catch them mooning out of the back of a bus later this year in Dortmund...

Marcel Luske. Errr, nothing really funny about this one. Bah.

It's not like action isn't happening, but it always seems to be five tables over and two across from where I am watching one of our English players calmly folding...

But there have been eliminations, like the Ahrt Kc into Ad Ac right near the start, or the first level super-optimistic Jc Js all-in preflop against Ahrt Ad (Spiking a Jack and giving the other guy a bad beat story)...

And there's always Marc Goodwin (pictured, along with tablemates Patrick Bueno and Liz Lieu).  He just bet 250 on a threeway flop of 4c 6d 8d, called by Patrick Bueno who had checked before him, and one guy in position on them both.  The turn brought a 4d, checked to In Position Matey, who bet 500, getting rid of Marc but getting a call from the Frenchman.  The river Ks was checked, and Patrick Bueno's Ad 9d was shown the winning hand.

Daniel (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=515) Negreanu (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=515) raises to 250 in early postion, Jan Sjavik calls from the hijack, the cut-off and the small blind also call.

Flop:

5h 9d 3h

Daniel bets 800, Jan calls, the other two players pass.

Turn:

4d

Daniel now bets 2,200. Jan moves all-in and Daniel insta-passes. Welcome to the EPT.

In a multi-way limped pot, it's checked to Greg (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=561) Raymer (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=561) who bets 1k on the board of 5d 3d Jh. One player calls.

Turn:

Td

The caller now bets 1.5k which Raymer quickly calls.

River:

5c

Now the caller checks, Raymer thinks for a second before declaring, "I'm not sure I should bet this." He flips Qd Jd, and his opponent shows Kd 9d. Raymer now has just 3k or so. Which is twice as much as Dario (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=517) Minieri (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=517), languishing on just 1.5k

Jen on the case now, he's sharing a table with Kevin O'Connell and Ben Grundy.

Meanwhile Johnny Chan is amongst the chip leaders. Here's how it happens.

One player limps, Chan makes it 325. A short-stack moves all-in for 850. Now the limper re-raises to 2.3k. Chan calls.

Flop:

Ac 2d 8c

The limper bets 3.6k, Chan calls.

Turn:

Js

The limper now bets 6.6k and Chan moves in for 12k more. Limper insta-passes. and Chan's A-K holds against the all-in player's A-6. The limper claimed he had 7-7, and a 7 came on the river too...

Rolf Slotboom - "I've folded 46 hands in a row, some with my left hand, some with my right."

Dario Minieri doubles up his meagre stack with 9h 8h against 8d 8c on a Kd Qs Ks 9d 6d board. The young looking Italian has about 3k now.

Big TK comes into his element when one player shoves his stack of 8,225 on a 8s 4s Ad 2h 3s board. The player next to him apparently throws in 6k and flips over his 6c 5c for the straight, the other player shows Ks Js for the flush though. The confusion is over whether the player with the straight has called the all-in. Big TK declares that no call was made, but the 6k was put in the pot and by showing the cards, it's then considered a fold.

Jonas Molander, having cut his teeth on the Bellagio Cup III with instant success this summer, returns to the EPT circuit...but is now approaching the felt after an entertaining hand, the first part of which I didn't see - did someone raise preflop?  If so, was it Molander or his in-position opponent?  Anyway, they saw a flop of Ad Th Ts, and Jonas bet out 550...it was raised fairly rapidly to just 1,200.. re-raise!  The shorterstacked Matey whacked it all in, showing the Tc 9c against Jonas' 6h 7h...  Hardly even blinking, he paid off the flopped trips as no miracle occurred, allowing just a hint of a wry smile as his calmly tabled Seven-high drew doubletakes from onlookers...

Cheekily grinning Ross Boatman - representing half of the Hendon Mob's appearance at this EPT event - Ram had a rather brief appearance yesterday, and of Joe Beevers and Barny Boatman there is no sign currently.

We hear that El Blondie is OUT - pictured here at the start of the day, he wasn't in the danger zone chipwise when I last saw him so something must have happened just after the dinner break.  Michael Greco is in one of those across-the-room cash games and was solicitous concerning Dave's stack last time I walked by... going to have to break him the bad news.

Ok, Jen and I have just grabbed a quick bite. Jen will no doubt be raving about her giant slab of steak. Served on a hot brick. And that's it. Nothing else added.

But anyway, some Woodley news.

Pre-break, Ian had to let go of Aces, after raising them up and receiving 3 callers. He bet out 1.5k on an all club flop with no Ac, found Patrik Antonius re-raising to 4.3k and then Adam Junglen moving all-in behind him. Woodley and Antonius quickly passed.

Woodley then managed to doubled through with Td Tc against Qs Qd, all the money going in on the turn of a Jh Th 8h 7s 5d board.

Ben Grundy is down to just 4k after his set of Queens on a Q-T-7 board was cracked by a straight draw which got there on the river.

John Shipley's ship has sailed and his chips shipped meaning things aren't ship-shape for Shipley.

Nicholas 'Croque Monsieur' Levi suffered a coolerific moment against Fabrice Soullier. Nicholas was holding 7-7 on a 9-9-7 flop, Fabrice was holding 9-7. Ouch.

Levi shortly doubled up afterwards with erm... 9-5, 6 people limped on his big blind and he raised it an extra 1,700 more leaving 3k back. Only the small blind called. The flop came a not entirely unhelpful 9-5-2 and the small blind bet 2k and was forced to called for the extra 1k with a lowly J-T against Levi's top two pair.

Greg Raymer has doubled his short stack with Aspades 4s against Tc Td in a blind on blind confrontation. The board coming Ahrt 8d 7s 5d Qs.

Dave Barraclough is OUT. He ran Kings into a set of Eights and then Kings into Thor Hansen's Aces.

Andreas Hoivold is glum after having his Aces cracked by Kings.

He has more chips than Greg Raymer though, who is OUT after having Jacks lose to King Jack which four-flushed. Then he had Jacks next hand and lost to Queen Jack.

Players are on a short break and then it's time for 150/300. And you know what happens in the level after that...

Gourlay has 10,500, and actually said he regretted not having those amazing sunglasses, as, "I'm wearing white."  So you are, Paul, so you are.

Also passed by his table as he was taking a pot off none other than Flying Dutchman Marcel Luske - he'd raised to 600 on the button, called by Marcel.  They both checked the flop of 4h Kh Jc, with Paul taking the pot with a 700 bet on the Jd turn.
"Every time I listen to 'Rocketman' I win a pot!" he marvels as he stacks the chips.  "Let's try it again!"  I can just picture his sleek black ipod nano with just one track on it...

I am not sure who this guy standing up is but he wins today's Getting It Quietly award (a scale-model bronze foghorn):

A pot of aover 6k had built up around a board of Ad 8s Tc Jc, and pictured gent was in the process of talking his now very short stacked opponent into calling all in.  He'd pushed, and was saying, "You have to call..."  "I think I might," agreed short stacked oppo.  "Call.  Call!" he urged, with that kind of persistance last seen in the Hypnotist from Little Britain.  Eventually he got the call from some reluctant Qd Qs... his Qc Kc for the turned nut straight with Good Measure Flush Draw stayed the winner, at which point he leaped up, hi-fiving some wall-attached lurkers and generally looking delighted.  "Yeah!"

Gobbomom, Hartwith, your requests are giving us the direction we need.  Might have been about to post some interesting hands from the Omaha cash game, but we're back on track now... while we're off on the Casino floor, here's a picture of Original Scandie Thor Hansen, whom I completely missed from all previous chip counts because he's on this strange lone table which is, as you can see, hidden from the prying eyes of the rest of the room by 5-deep spectators and some unlikely palm trees.

Dani Stern, doing the best of the three. He's got around 37k, and probably in the top five at the moment.

Ben Grundy, pictured earlier, wearily, is now OUT - Facing a raise to 1,250 he pushed all in for what was around 5,200 but looked like more due to the impressive nurturing of the green (25) chip towers.  Pretty much instacalled, the Milkybarkid surmised "I must have the worst hand," before being shown Ad Kh and finding his Tc Ts to be ahead.  "Not yet," he foretold, as the board came 2c 2h 2d with a Ks on the turn and an irrelevant 9d on the river.  By the time the Nine was settled on the table Ben had already left the card room.

Marc Goodwin has continued his growth in stack at a speed similar to that at which plants turn to face the sun.  He's on 12,450 and is spending roughly half the time standing up for no reason and the other half talking to either Liz Lieu or Mark Teltscher.*  Absolutely no interesting hands to report this circuit, sorry.

Liz Lieu  16,550
Humberto Brenes  12,200
Stig Top Rasmussen  19,200
Thomas Wahlroos  44,500
Praz Bansi  6,300
Rolf Slotboom  9,200
Patrik Antonius  34,000

Marcel Luske is OUT - short stacked (compared to his table) he limp-called preflop with Ac Jc, hit a J-rag-rag flop and check-raised himself all in.  He was up against Queens.

Big pot developed between Dags Martin Mikkelsen and Patrik Antonius.

UTG raised, Patrik called in EP and Dags called on the button.

The flop came 9s 5c 2s

UTG checked, Patrik bet 4k, Dags made it 10k. UTG folded. And then Patrik made it 25k, in effect setting the young Norwegian all-in. After a couple of minutes with the shown pained look on his face. Dags decided not to risk his stack and an expressionless Patrik, (is there any other sort?) raked in the pot.

A slow day for both Praz Bansi and Karl Mahrenholz. The former just took down a pot with a 2.5k bet on the river of a Aspades 7d 7c 7h Jc board. Going better is Javed Abrahams, quietly moving up to 22k.

double glazing would be ideal, ask him if he has any special deals available.

Michael 'Beppe DiMarco' Greco isn't the only ex-Eastender here. I've just spotted Grant and Phil Mitchell

He's just been moved to the Martin Wendt, Patrik Antonius, DM Mikkel table. I don't think now is the time to ask... :D

I would just like to say that it was the whole pressroom experiencing said difficulties, and I've now got Homer connecting a special cable to some power like Doc on the Clocktower in Back to the Future.  We now resume transmission.

Short stack News Now:

Short stack Focus on - Ross Boatman... The Hendon Mobster was just all in under the gun for his whole 2,175 or so, but it passed all the way round, giving him an extra 450 to travel to the Antoniusetc. table with.  Unsurprisingly he was all-in again almost immediately, this time over the top of Marc Goodwin's under the gun raise to 1,000.  Big blind Martin Wendt called the all-in, and after a brief deliberation during which Ross reminded Marc, "Course you can raise..." Mr. Cool opted to call, leaving himself 6,725 behind.
They checked it all the way down until the board stood:  Ts Jd 3d Jc 7d, at which point Ross said, "Give me your chips," flipping Ks Js.  Marc mucked the 8d 8s and who knows what Martin Wendt had.  Life once more in the Boatman stack.

The table with the most randoms gathering close to watch now has Patrik Antonius, Martin Wendt Marc Goodwin and Ross Boatman more or less in a line.  Antonius must have around 50k (but his chips, as so often, are in single coloured towers which look great but are hard to count), while Martin Wendt has just under 30k, and the two English players are not so comfortable.  There's a lot of preflop raising going on, as you might expect - just now Patrik Antonius raised to 900, was re-raised by Martin Wendt to 2,550, took a flop but check-folded to the 4k bet as the cards came Ac 2d 9s.

Ian Woodley  20k
Daniel Negreanu  14k

Oh no! The aliens that got Phil Starrs yesterday appear to have got Praz Bansi too! And it's when he's sitting on the same table. ::) What are the chances? Perhaps the table should carry an 'Alien Abduction' warning sticker in it?

Karl Mahrenholz is OUT. Q-J shove for last 2.2k ran into A-K.

Javed Abrahams is on 40k.

"Any stories?" I venture.

"Not really, these just keep trying to bluff me."

Prizepool has been done, we're still waiting for the full prize list but I can tell you first prize is going to be:

€1,170,000

or

£793,024.31

or

$1,597,148.80

or

4,847.112 Palladium Ounces. And, I think we can all agree, that's a lot of Palladium Ounces!!

Ian Woodley -- 42k (having won a big coinflip with Queens vs Ace King)
Praz Bansi -- 25k (Improved since Karl began to rail him)

Jeff Garza seems to be in every pot on his table. First he calls a 2.1k bet on the turn of a Kd 3d 5c 3s 2s board before the river goes check, check. His Ahrt 5h is good for the 8k or so pot.

Next he takes down another with a 2.5k bet on Ad 7s 3d. Rolf Slotboom says, "Jack high at best." Jeff smiles.

Marc Goodwin and Ross Boatman have a little tussle,

Flop:

9c 3h 5c

Marc checks, Ross bets 1.5k, Marc calls.

Turn:

8d

Check, check.

River:

Marc bets out 4k, and Ross decides to let it go.

Roughly half the field left and we almost about to start the final level of the night. (300/600/75)

Drum roll please... Chip Leader Watch:

It looks like Dani Stern has topped the 80k mark (or is about to at any minute), his stack towering over the others on his table...

Elsewhere Karl Mahrenholz declines a railbird picture as he watches Praz on the accidental feature table and gets one anyway, along with a very relaxed looking Thor Hansen across it.

I took one look at this player's headgear and decided it had to be Humberto Brenes... but no - there is a secondary red visor in the room - the plastic shark afficionado is actually sat one table back.  There hasn't been a lot of shouting from the volatile and often delightfully incomprehensible Costa Rican, but then again there hasn't been a whole lot of TV filming either... he's hovered around average chips all day, with around 18k at last count.

The back of Rolf Slotboom, typical tic-tac topped tower just visible (and only totalling about 20k)... it looks like he's prepared for the weather to turn, or someone to set the fire sprinklers off... considering he was wavering about playing as recently as last night (which he spent updating in the press room) he's had a fairly good day.

Add more chips to Dani Stern's stack.

I don't know the preflop or flop action, but he just called 7k on the turn of a Kd Js 6s 4s board before both players checked the Qh river. His J-5o (no spade) was good enough to take the pot, which looks like 20k from this picture.

Adam (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=896) Junglen (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=896) at the same time busted a short stack with Kd Ks vs Ahrt 6d, board coming 5c Qc 2c 4d Td.

Lazarus comeback no.1

Dag Martin Mikkelsen aka "DMMikkel" all the way back up to 40k after dropping that huge pot to Antonius.

Lazarus comeback no.2

Jan (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=591) Sjavik (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=591) (in seat 1), down to around 4k, now on 41k.

Thomas (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=877) Wahlroos (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=877) doubles up with Ahrt Kd against 3d 3s, the board an emphatic Kh 6h 5h Th Ad for complete overkill. Perhaps he'll push his own stack over this time instead of someone elses?

With 15 minutes left of play the authoritative voice of big T.K. himself ordered everyone apart from players to vacate the tournament area.  This was doubly necessary as the spectators had gradually wormed round all the tables, and showed even more reluctance to be prised away than the press...

Here's what I saw before that happened:

Rolf Slotboom is eliminated with 9h 9d vs. Aspades Tc - all in pre - (not sure how they got to the part where they were all in with a crowd shouting round them).  All I know is a Ten came on the river and there were many handshakes as Rolf left the table...

Paul Gourlay raised on the button to 1,700 and found the big blind shoving over the top for another 11k or so.  Paul had 13,500 behind and this was therefore a pretty crucial decision.  He got the full countdown treatment and eventually passed...he was shown the 4s as his opponent took the pot down...

Other counts, given that it's not quite end-of-play and anything can happen in good old No Limit Hold'em...

Jan Sjavik  37k
Praz Bansi  16k
Marc Goodwin  15k
Martin Wendt  35k

It looks like we'll be ending today with a few more than last night - the screens say 114 players remain so let's guess...107.  Full chip counts from the combined Day Ones (which together make our redrawn Day Two) will be posted tomorrow before the start of play, which is 5pm (4pm UK time).

That's all we can get for tonight, so it's time to ;stickaforkinme;

Full chip counts to arrive later tonight, (much later) so they'll be put up first thing tomorrow.

A general note about Day 2 is that from now on, all tables are going to be 8-handed, instead of 9.

Time for Jen and I to saunter along the empty streets of Barca and collapse into our respective beds. See you all tomorrow at 5pm. :)
