I was having a look at the card at Caen later today and noticed that in the 3.15 and 3.50 every horse is 3yo and their name begins with an H, the 4.25 is 5yo and names start with an F and 4.58 for 4yo and every name starts with a G.
What's that all about?
For A.Q.P.S. (Autre Que Pur Sang) horses, which includes trotters, anglo-arabs, as well as what we would call "half-breds", each year requires a horse’s name to begin with a designated letter of the alphabet. For example, foals of 2002 have names beginning with the letter "O", 2003 "P" and so on.
A lot of these are trotting races. Caen is a lovely place from memory
