BTW- Do any of you lot cut grass on a regular basis?

Nothing better for a bit of relaxation than cutting a bit of grass...unfortunately my lawnmower packed up ages ago so my neighbour does it for us.

I do mine & next doors, been two weeks, & it's on the to do list today. Will do it tomorrow.

Is it wrong to mow the grass at 8.30 in the evening?

Yes, most definitely too late to mow the grass after 7PM...unless it's a beautiful mid summer's night and it will be light until 11 or something silly like that.

It's as black as a bag here at 8:30 in the evening.

I suppose it would be OK if your mowing by sense of smell...

Question for Red:
I am thinking of scarifying my lawn, when is the best time to do it? Is it worth it?

I'm no lawn expert but I do know that  scarifying will make your lawn look rough for a couple of cuts, so if you are going to do it, do it while it's growing fast.

What I mean is, if you do it in winter, it will look rough until next spring.

Oh and yes, if your lawn has that sort of dense, matted feel, it is definitely worth it.

I've created a monster.

I moved a shed, which in turn lead me to move a caravan, which meant I had to lift some paving, which caused me to move a buried cable, relocate the outside tap, and the clothes pole....  which means that I have to move another shed.

Yeah, thats exactly what its like, quite a lot of moss, so in theory about now would be a good time?

It's a bit late in the year actually, if the weather turns cold the lawn wont have time to recover before it stops growing.

On the other hand, if we get a couple more weeks of sunshine and showers, you'll be fine. It's your call.....

Miners get chicken, rice and meatballs, but no fags or booze.

Is the smoking ban a good idea? I mean, If I were a smoker down there, I'd be pretty pissed if some boffin up top decided that this was the best time for me to quit.

Obviously if there is a risk of explosion then fair enough, but this advice from a is a nutritionist, not a mining expert.

Such a great story. I love the caption which reads "Path the ball would have continued to take if gravity hadn't taken over"

More correctly, the caption would read path the ball would have taken if gravity hadn't taken over and there was no air.

Friction with the air would slow the ball down both in terms of its actual speed before eventually coming to a stop, and its rotational speed meaning the angle of the spiral would be less and less acute.

Without air, it wouldn't curve at all.

There would still be friction in their tests though so you would think their path is correct.
