Title: Challenge for the Heads up Winners from Notts
Post by: TightEnd on May 15, 2005, 03:23:24 PM
Players from Grosvenor Luton challenge you to a match

Where: Grosvenor Luton
When: Wednesday 9th August (during the Luton August festival)
Time: Exact time to be confirmed, but approx 5pm, before that evening's Omaha competition
Rules: As per Notts/Blackpool competition

The above has been agreed with Carmel at Luton should you choose to play us. Carmel is intending to run a heads up competition at Luton in July where two seats to our team for this match can be won. The other six players will be finalised shortly, four have already agreed in principle

Tikay/Junior etc...do you accept?

Do Luton realise just how good Notts are?

Of course we do. You are all excellent and we are all muppets. You should win handsomely.

Therefore I look forward to receiving at least 5/2 from you in a side bet.

already looking forward to the game.  I guess its down to us (as champions) to provide the customary crystal prize trophy.  Do you have 9 players that know how to play NLH and can rustle together 250 each? - we could always play 3-a-side if your struggling for a team. -

a) Carmel has said she will provide a trophy (though whether the local shoe repairers/key cutters in Luton will do a trophy that will do an event justice, I doubt...)

b) We would offer to provide you with a flat pack trophy cabinet as well, except we doubt you'd want an empty wooden thing in the corner of your cardroom for too long, and wouldn't want you to stretch those brain cells too much assembling it for no subsequent purpose.

c) if NLH proves a problem for us, do you know whist?

Ooh-er, make a lot of noise these Luton boys, eh? Reminds me of that other lot. Now what were they called? Sigh, I just cant remember......Always hard to remember losers.

But to be serious for a mo, the Notts Boys want to make this a Charity Event, with Poker4Charity &/or Game 4Life benefiting. I mean, as far as the teams are concerned, this is all about bragging rights, not money. But it'd be nice to get some lolly across to Davey Newth & his team at Poker4Charity, eh?

So, are Luton up for making this a Charity Event? I have to mention here a vested interest. Malcolm Muskett, one of the Notts All-Stars, has a role in Poker4Charity - a trustee or summat - but it's a tremendous cause, so let's get it on, eh?

And please pass on our thanks to Carmel for helping out. What a lovely spirit we are getting between the players & the cardrooms now.

We have given you our congratulations but dont gloat too much or we may have to demand a rematch. Hows about a league with the format me and junior sorted out being the standard format. Think it worked well and every festival could then have an intercasino challenge. The "practise" match while we sorted out the teething problems obviously wouldnt count towards a league that didnt even exist ;D

No worries Ariston. We, as reigning champions, will accept a challenge from Blackpopol at the next Blackpool Festrival. The idea is that it goes from Festival to Festival, the hosts (let's say Blackpool, Luton, Walsalll) play the Champions - that's Notts. See?

And I am assuming you are up for making this a charity jobbie.

By the way, can you make the trophy smilar to the one you gave us the week before last - so we have a matching pair?

More than happy playing it for charidee yes. I will have to make sweeping changes to the team next time dropping myself and bringing in the A team (cue I aint getting on no plane fool jokes). Rather than having reigning champions why not set up a real league? Super league consisting of all the casinos that hold festivals on a regular basis- 3 points for a win etc?

Title: Re: Challenge for the Heads up Winners from Notts
Post by: tikay on May 16, 2005, 02:41:21 PM
I don't think the League would work - too long betwen Festivals. And Notts don't hold Festivals, we just win other peeps Fessie events. And who would the "opponents" be at, say, Walsall, if it' not the holders? Nah, too many probs. The Defending Champs take on the Host Venue, the money goes to Charity, & the Bragging Rights go to Notts. What would be fairer?

But if other folks wanna League, well pipe up boys, before it's too late.

JP - that JP Kelly? Sorry, but the match is held after your bedtime.

Note to the Notts Boys - JP is the only player Luton have got - nobble him & we are home & hosed.

Blackpool would like a league. More than one match could take place at a festival, you saw how london were keen to play up at blackpool. As nottingham dont have festivals you could play all your matches as away ties (nobody would want to visit Nottingham anyway  ;) )

Well I do hear you Ariston. But we gotta remember the business in hand is the Blue Square.com Festival, hosted by Grosvenor. We cant have the cart going before the horse. Management have been terrific at Blackpool already in giving us chips, time & tables, & Carmel at Luton has offered the same, which is really appreciated. & we think Dani V at Walsall would do the same. But we cannot get in the way of these folks running their Festivals.

I am happy to go with the flow, just 2 caveats though. I want it for Charity, & I insist we don't overdo it by asking too many favours of Management during Festivals, which are stressful times for them.

If we over-complicate it, it will lose it's "spirit". I have to say, we absolutely loved the atmo at Blackpool, you guys did your end of things just perfect. And that's how we wanna keep it - a fun thing.

Lol, I have asked permission and am allowed to play pending good behaviour ;) (will also have to raid my piggy bank) . I can see a problem though, 9 notts' players in luton casino.... ???
I see a safety hazard with the size of their egos / heads, might have to let you lot in one at a time. Also Tikay the fashion police are on RED alert. :o

On a more serious note I'd like to know how these other 2 players will be picked as there is a big difference between heads up and a 9 handed table. Any more info richard (tightend) ???

Carmel is suggesting running a heads up satellite during July with the two finalists entering the team ie give all players a chance/be inclusive etc etc. If you disagree with this, make representations to her JP.

Fair ponit well made Tikay. We want revenge at some time though mate. Having to eat dinner with the torhy staring me in the face (thanks rob!!) was a sickener, I couldnt wait to get off to the airport and I couldn't face spending the evening with Mr young.

Although when the bragging was being done he did mention playing any game for any stake against us losers. I suggested we go play some 9 ball for a grand a frame and never having seen me play he declined. I will now admit I am useless at pool but it was good to see I could still run a bluff on him (Nowabs ribbing of him bottling it almost made the meal bearable).

I am taking a distinct dislike to this JP laddo. What's he mean, "fashion police are on red alert"????? You not seen Poker 425? My snazzy new jacket (yup, the Plum one is returning this week) & my shorts?

ariston you never offered a pool match to me at 1k a frame being the only captain of my local pubs pool team to have lifted the league title i would have taken you up on that if we could have found a wheelchair accessable table that is

The Notts - Luton Heads-Up Challenge.

Had a long chat with Carmel at Luton this evening. The Challenge is coming along nicely. More details will be released in the coming weeks. But it is definitely a goer. Unless, of course, Luton bottle it.

A trophy is being sorted by BlueSquare.com, & Satellites are being run in Luton. Please dont ask me how the satellites will work, that's a Luton matter, & the Luton boys & girls should contact either Ashley Templeman or Richard Prew.

Both Carmel & Jonathan Rabb have put a lot of work into this, & we thank them for that.

Charity? It's up to the winners to donate "something appropriate" to Poker4Charity or Game4Life. I believe Jonathan Rabb is going to match these contributions up to a certain amount - details soon.

The Notts All-Stars Team will be announced shortly.

Let the mud-slinging commence.

you can put me down for a bit of this i fancy putting that thewy lad in his place with us luton boys showing him how to play 7,10 off and q,2  those premium hands he likes. so notts boys watch out.

7djl.

This is not a game for children or rookies you know, though I hear JP wants to play. You could get hurt, you know.

Have you played before at the upper levels of the game? I don't mean Luton Upper Levels, I mean proper upper levels?

This is really shaping up to be a REAL BATTLE. Would be very interesting if fellow Game for Life trustees Malc Muskett and Steve Templeman were to meet acroos the baize. Thanks to Tikay and everyone else who have worked hard to get this event going and insisting that Poker4Charity/Game for Life should benefit. I hope to be in Luton to see the 'Battle of the Titans'.

Steve Templeman is playing.

Other commitments include Jimmy Alp and JP. A couple of other faces currently in Barca, I'm awaiting their return......

Oh, and we have a "double agent" who has committed to us with prior knowledge of Gala Notts. His insights will no doubt prove useful...probably along the lines of "don't ask me what he's likely to have, I've watched him for several years raise with 9 4 offsuit out of position, he could have anything....."

Tikay, my personal opinion is that Notts need to move on and play better teams. Whats the point of going backwards and playing against Blackpool. Wigan and Sunderland got promoted to the Premiership, can you see them electing to play in Division one again next year. Its simply a waste of our time. If Blackpool really enjoy playing heads up theat much, maybe they could arrange a match against Preston or Stockport, it would be local and provide them with more of a fighting chance. Tikay, I suggest you bar all Blackpool players from "heads up threads" on this site at they are taking up valuable server memory space with their repetitive threads falling upon empty ears. they had there moment in the spotlight and it had gone, they need to learn to live with the facts now, and move on. Maybe you could arrange a match with the Notts "B" team if they are that desperate play.

Now now rob behave. We lost graciously and congratulated you but the terms of the match (as it was the first) were that the losers got the chance at a rematch. We will wait our turns but our time will come. Ive still not played you yet but if your not careful I will set womble on you (I believe your his bitch????)

Rob Yong.

I think we (Notts) ought to set a minimum target for how much we raise for Poker4Charity. What you reckon? This is a Notts matter.

Luton can & should make their own decision as to what their target is.

Title: Re: Challenge for the Heads up Winners from Notts
Post by: robyong on May 19, 2005, 01:16:12 AM
I think to Winners should get their 250 fee back and the rest go to charity - but guys like Simon Nowab are unlikely to agree to this......

Title: Re: Challenge for the Heads up Winners from Notts
Post by: Malc-M on May 19, 2005, 01:25:11 AM
Rob
If that much money was raised then it might be possible to name one of the schools that we are building in Sri Lanka- The Nottingham Team -Game 4 Life School. That would be gr8- But just imagine if Luton somehow won-
Luton in Sri Lanka -doesn't bear thinking about..

Anyway the charity will appreciate any and every contribution.

Hi Tikay,

Steve Templeman here, I can confirm I will be playing in the Heads Up Challenge at Luton mainly because JP,s mum has asked for someone to be on hand in case of a nappy change requirement. You probably dont realise but Luton have played previously in a team heads up challenge and are in fact unbeaten! I look forward to the battle of the Game for Life trustees challenge between myself & Malcolm, if you have a full list of your team i will try & get some even money matches from us to make the book more interesting after all it doesn,t look good if we are odds on for all the matches. it would be great to donate all of the winnings to Game for Life but we should confirm this once each individual has agreed. have you got nine confirmed players?

One other alarming point I have to raise is that you referred to me as Ashley I do hope you are not confusing me with Ashley Alterman as I am much taller & slimmer!
