Fight fire with fire. Attack straight at the heart of the institution.

Have a 100,000 Euro buy-in regular NL comp some time this year called the World Poker Championship or some such to crown the "World Champion."
Hold it in a casino, not an aircraft hanger at the back of a casino.

Buy-in would inhibit many non named players in the field, likely that a named player will win it.

So come the autumn there's two world champions. One is John Gale, the other a previosuly unknown traffic warden called Jeff Kowalski. Who are most going to recognize?

The $ remains the king of currencies! Havent ya heard? Ergo, your loverly idea gos poo poo.

I am a Brit, I moved here in Sept 2006(something of an impulse move), basically fed up in the UK, needed a change.

I dont work, i am retired, having sold my business, I do plan however sometime in the future to invest money here in some sort of project (not sure what yet).

At the moment i am just doing some voluntary stuff in the community, and sponsering local events, other than that i just play poker online, and walk on the beach, swim relax, and chat with you guys/girls on here.

I wish you all the best on your plans to go to Thailand (never been there) but have heard its very nice.

Ah! I see! Retired Expat. All very sensible. You can live quite comfortably in Philipines or Thailand on what would be bare subsistence in London or other major European cities.

I think Thailand is beautiful and the People are V fiendly, ,in general. The Philipines is similar, though there does seem to be a bit more "abject" poverty and political strife as of late (PS I haven't been to Philipines since Pinatubo blew its top back in 93 or 94, but I have spent a bit more time in Thailand.) If you ever get the hankering for a little local travel, I recco a trip to Thailand for some diffo exps.

PS Do you speak either Tagalog or Spanish? If not, ho isolated do you feel from the local culture? I speak basic Thai but need to improve sgnificantly to live there longterm.

A collection to help you on your way would, I feel sure, be enthusiatically supported. Don't tell the Thai's though.

Mai di man! Jai dam mak!

2 things

1st and foreskin!  Please refrain from using a captilized "MY" in your thread titles as MY is clearly a copyrighted abbreviation of MadYank and it just won't do for it to be used unofficially or without the express written consent of MadYank Industries.

2nd!  Do you really live in Manila? If so, why do you live in the slums? If not so, what be your point?

Firstly SIR, please accept my sincerest apologies, as it was never my intention to upset anybody on this forum, especially somebody as yourself, a fine upstanding contributor (i have enjoyed reading all of your posts).

Please be assured this mistake of using your trademark without permission will NEVER happen again.

Secondly, No I don't live in Manila, but I do live in the Philippines. If you viewed the other 2 pictures I posted i am sure somebody of your intelligence would recognise I was just trying to portray 2 differing sorts of life here.

The Philippine Government and Tourism Board will have foreigners believe that the Philippines is a beautiful place, which on the whole it is, but there is an awful lot of poverty in the country as well, in my own small way I was just trying to show you all that there is a different side to the Philippines.

Once again please accept my humblest apologies, and I hope in the future you will not deem it necessary to reprimand me again.

Yours most humble
taximan007

Sorry bout the reprimand, but the solicitors insist on zealous trademark defences!

As for The Philipines, I saw your other post after responding to this one but yeah I get the idea. As an aside, are you a Brit Expat working in Philipines? Are you Philipino? DO you work reg job or some sort of NGO/comm relief job?

PS the questions are genuine interest not a stir attempt in that I am seriously considering moving to Thailand meself for awhile.

The baby Jesus Cries
Everytime Tikay tells Lies.

I am still mystyfied why guys lie about their age. You should wear it with pride, in that you have survived so long. I would be truly mystified were I to survive to 59.

That $$ bundle was thrown to his very large and tough friend who had been railing him for 5 str8 days. It was caught by his intended friend. There would have been little inclination to do a runner even if someone next to him caught it because this particular friend was one "Mean ass" looking dude (miles tougher looking than all the Harrahs security bitchs combined) who had also been acting as a minder for JGold.

Interesting that "pessimism/depression" shaves about 20 years off life whereas smoking only shaves 11 years.

OK seious response now.

Flushy, I find it interesting that you state "western governments sit by and let it happen."

I agree that more decisive action should be taken, alas, world opinion and The UN are often hypocritical. The last time The US launched a major military initiative in Africa, (Somalia) they recieved minimal support and actual interference from The UN. Additionaly, the weighty world public opinion never really cared.

Why is it that this "world opinion" can only be mustered in strength to oppose a marginal war but can't be mustered to support a "just war." Clearly there are cases for Just Military action that even the most ardent pacifist would concede is necesary.

Anywayz, theres my 2cents.

PS Notice kids...no flames, no anger?  Shocked

This thread is disapointing on several levels.
I originally read the title as "Hold Rwanda" vice "Hotel Rwanda"

1st: I was hoping for this being Flushy shouting "HOLD RWANDA!" at the top of his lungs during a poker hand.

2nd: I thought I was going to learn a new hand name RWANDA = XX
