Both drafts are in the books.

Will set up a spreadsheet to track the 'best draft' competition.  Best valid lineup based on the players you drafted for their full season score (regardless of what happens to them on your roster from now).

Thanks to everyone.

For the benefit of Graham, and the other new guys, all the undrafted players are now on waivers.  If you go into the player pool on the site you'll see that they all have W (Sep 9) next to their names.  This means that anyone wanting to add them to their rosters must now put in a claim for them via the plus sign logo.  Waivers are basically a priority list, so if two people put a claim in for the same player the one with higher priority gets them.  That team then moves to the bottom of the priority list and everyone moves up one place.

If you look at the league table, you'll see a Waiver column with a number from 1-10 in it.  This is your current position on the list and it starts in reverse draft order (so 10th pick gets top priority).

The whole purpose of waivers is to stop the free agent pool being a first come first served list when games are in progress (so if you're watching a game and someone gets injured, you can't immediately go and pick up their backup without everyone else getting an equal shot at doing so).  Once a team's game begins each week, you'll see their entire squad move from Free Agents to Waivers.

Once waivers clear on the date shown (usually early morning around 8am), the player statuses switch to 'FA' for Free Agent.  At this point it's first come first served and your picks of free agents don't affect the waiver status.

Consequently, picking up players is a bit of a judgement call as to whether you want to use up your claim priority, or hope that no-one else does if you want to get them as Free Agents.  If there's a major injury, expect the whole world to react to it, so always be mindful of your waiver priority.

Hope this make sense.  If not, then all will become clear over the next few days.

Also, with regard to team selection you can switch players from your bench to your roster as you wish until their individual games kick off each week.  Once this happens, the players 'lock' on either the starting roster or the bench.  Be mindful that there's usually one game on Thursday night each week, one late Sunday kickoff and one Monday night game.  Again, all will become clear over the first week, but keep an eye on the game start times on your roster lists, to make sure you get the starting lineup you want.

I don't think I understand the significance of different game start times? Surely you just pick your team for the week and those players play whenever their game happens to be? your bench never figures right? or I am missing something?

The issues are when you're not sure if someone is going to play, and they're in a late game so you're taking a chance on them if you don't have their backup available.

The NFL have 3 official injury statuses and all teams must declare injured players with one of these:
Q = Questionable (50% chance they play)
D = Doubtful (25% chance they play)
O = Out (no chance they play)

Suppose your star RB is questionable for the Monday night game.  All your backups are playing before then.  What do you do?

It will happen sooner than you think, as will the inevitable FML moment when you make the wrong call (see also 'my bench scored more than my starting lineup').

players are only locked into your team or bench once there game starts

so you can make changes right up till games all kick off

say you have a WR on the monday night game and after the sunday night games you find out
he has brroken his hand playing frisbee with the kids you can try and pick up another WR that will be playing that game
 from the free agency and use him instead

enjoyed it too

what predictions did people get in their email from nfl.com?

i got B- and 6-8 win/loss

pfft.

they might be right though, i had no less than 4 players in the box at the top ready to draft who went the pick before mine. great but frustrating fun!
