BT are constantly sending me letters asking me to sign up for their broadband service. The say if I do I will have access to some ridiculous number of Open Zone Wifi hot spots.
This got me thinking. How do they protect these hotshots? Presumably access is via a password. What is there to prevent 20 people sharing the same one?
Its the same password for my btinternet account (email etc) so it would be a bit risky to share that. Also I would imagine that they record multiple logons to prevent abuse.

Do you use the hotspots much, and are they usually available when you need them? How many people are allowed to use the one account?

Don't use it that much - never seems to be one when I need it. ie they say many airports have it but it is out of range for a lot of the gate areas. I have logged on to a neighbour's when mine was playing up and there are loads of those "hub" hotspots about in any residential area. Though there must be slight security concerns about using these. Don't know about numbers - but as I said its the same password to access email etc - so you would have to trust anyone who you gave access.

I use them often. Pretty handy at times. The data is sent encrypted over the connection, so as secure as using your home wifi really.
