Ha.
I sort of half sussed that it was about stealing Content. I guess it's the internet version of shoplifting, not exactly a hanging offence.
It always seems to me that the forces of law & order almost don't recognize that the internet exists. This particularly applies to Libel, but in so many other areas, too. We have had the web for, what, 30 years now?, & it seems to me it is sheer anarchy, people do whatever they want, legal or not, & nobody stops them.
Anyway, it'll not keep me awake at night.
Kodi isn't illegal in any way at all. It's just a media player that you can run various applications to find perfectly legal content on the interwebs. Unfortunately some unscrupulous individuals have realised that you can develop applications which will allow you to use Kodi to access illegal content.
It's the same way that your PC isn't illegal, neither is a piece of software that can access illegal content. It's when you use both together to download or stream the content that it's dodgy.
Kodi is just an unloaded gun sat on a sideboard. It needs a bullet and a willing operator to turn it in to anything naughty.
Nice to hear you're sleeping well.

Point of order. He didn't say he was sleeping well.

I read an earlier thread a week or so ago after yet another pump in prices and bought a loaded Firestick from ebay for about £60 a few days ago - no idea whether it'll be any good or not as not arrived yet. I'm somewhat capable technically but by no means at geek level. I'll give some feedback when I get it. Should be in the next day or so.
Felt £60 was small enough to not really worry whether it worked or not but can't see why it won't.

go to amazon to buy a android tv box, don't pay much more than £40. Don't pay for pre-installed apps
something like this
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Arrivals-M9-Quad-core-Supports-Wireless/dp/B01C55D5VI/ref=sr_1_4?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1488313229&sr=1-4&keywords=Android+TV+box%2C
Haven't used that box so can't vouch for it, but the most recent one I bought is out of stock.
download and install kodi from
https://kodi.tv/download/
if not installed
here are some sites to tell you how to install apps

Are your sentiments against buying pre-installed apps based on it being a waste of money because it's relatively straightforward to do yourself (watched a few you tube vids and it did look like even I could do it).
Or, are there other issues with pre-installs generally - appreciate any views on this

Thanks.
How do these boxes connect? I.e do they plug into your TV and then pick up wireless signal from wifi? Or do i need to connect it hardwired to my router?

Mine were that I'd sooner just have something I can plug in, and have it work like scuy.
Costs me a pony a month, but there is normally at least one PPV event a week that more than covers it

Is an Amazon Firestick not a good way of setting this up or is an android box such as the one already linked better?

firstly it is easy and secondly pre-installed box retailers are getting a lot of attention from the authorities. So if you rely on them, they won't be there when all your addons disappear and you need new ones. So imo you might as well learn how to install them.
My new box reads a usb drive when you stick it in and asks if you want to install the app, so it really is very easy.

Can't advise on the firestick bit, but all the apps that I want are in android format, so I prefer that route (they or equivalents might be on firestick idk).
re your other question, you do need a power source for the android box. Then it uses wifi and connects to tv via an hdmi cable.

It's fairly easy to install. The best thing to do if you are unsure is to check out a YouTube tutorial, there's some great guides about.
