Title: THE Aintree Tipster Competition 2013 Post by: MereNovice on March 28, 2013, 03:37:31 PM Spreadsheet link: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Aia1Hxq-NDNWdEVQeWdSWUYzbXZkTktjZHV6WEdEckE#gid=0
I am pleased to announce this year's Blonde Aintree Tipster Competition. The rules are as follows: 1. Entry is open to everyone upon payment of a £25 entry fee to me. I will PM my bank details to everyone who has expressed even a remote interest (see next post). Payment must be received by me before 1pm on Thursday 4th April. If you are interested, please indicate below or PM me. Each person may enter up to a maximum of two times. Each entry costs £25. 2. The competition will be run over the 21 races from Thursday 4th April to Saturday 6th April 2013. 3. Each entrant will pick one horse per race. The selection must either be for a £2 win or a £1 each-way bet. Winnings will be settled on the basis of Starting Prices. If you fail to make a selection or select a non-runner it will be counted as a £2 win bet on the SP favourite (lowest racecard number if there are joint/co favourites). I will take instructions for "random" selections (e.g. first horse alphabetically) for each race if you do not have the time/inclination to make your own selections but, in a rather dictatorial manner, I am not going to allow selections such as "pick the SP favourite for every race" or attempts to circumvent this rule. 4. The place component of an each-way bet will be decided using the following criteria: 1/4 the odds for a place for each horse officially returned on the results for each race on www.gg.com 5. I will be using www.gg.com for the purpose of deciding the result of each race. 6. Entries must be sent to me via PM by 1pm on the day of the races. I will then make everyone's selections available via the spreadsheet by 1:30pm that day. If I do not receive your entry by 1pm I will pick a (win only) random horse for you in each race. Note that these selections will be genuinely random. 7. The winner will be the person who makes most profit (or least loss) over the course of the festival. 8. My decision is final in all matters (until proven otherwise). The payout structure will be as follows: 1-10 entrants 1st 100% 11-20 entrants 1st 75% 2nd 25% 21-30 entrants 1st 60% 2nd 30% 3rd 10% >30 entrants tba Have fun. Title: Re: THE Aintree Tipster Competition 2013 Post by: MereNovice on March 28, 2013, 03:37:50 PM <reserved for rule clarifications>
A. In the event of only one horse being show in the result on https://gg.com/racing/, all e/w tips will be converted to a "win only" bet. Title: Re: THE Aintree Tipster Competition 2013 Post by: MereNovice on March 28, 2013, 03:38:03 PM Those who have expressed an interest so far are:

Title: Re: THE Aintree Tipster Competition 2013 Post by: Karabiner on April 05, 2013, 12:04:34 PM Cue Card v Flemenstar match bet, thoughts? I find this quite fascinating due to there being so many imponderables. Flemenstar made the running when winning over 2.5M in Ireland early in the season and we know that Cue Card usually seems at his best when making it too, but Cue Card can get a bit fizzy when taken on for the lead meaning he doesn't run up to his best form. Flemenstar has always been reported to be a terrible traveller and was apparently sweating up yesterday morning at excercise due to there being a lot of activity around him in unfamiliar surroundings although his trip over on the ferry went very well. Will the real Flemenstar show up? I would tend to favour Cue Card in the match, but it'll be a watching brief for me, allbeit one that I'm very much looking forward to. I'd probably take evens NRNB. Sir Des Champs doesn't look that likely a runner, and not sure Bobs Worth would either. If Bobs Worth does show up, I'd still favour Sprinter Sacre. I think you'd have to have a race including all the current top 3 milers and Simonsig/Dynaste before you'd go odds against. The RNG works on: the letters in the person's name the time of the race the number of horses in the race a bit of multiplication a bit of modulo arithmetic This produces a number which I then look up on the list of horses that I use to validate everyone's entries. Sadly, I didn't back it myself. Title: Re: THE Aintree Tipster Competition 2013 Post by: Tal on April 06, 2013, 04:59:30 PM I feel like Crisp

I think I've left it too late to canvass opinions about a different type of competition. If there is any interest, I'll start a thread later tonight. If people can indicate any interest below, it would be helpful. For anyone not aware of how it was organised last year, see here: http://blondepoker.com/forum/index.php?topic=57278.0 We are likely to replace the "1st round leader" with a different category this year because a win in that category at long odds would pretty much end the competition before it has properly started.
