Garmin's Dan Martin returns to racing after his crash in the Vuelta. Again he is expected to go well in Florence for the Worlds on a course that suits him. It's difficult to asses his form, at anything close to his best he's certainly a top 3 pick. His team mate Nathan Haas was a close 2nd last year to Jonathan Tiernan-Locke.

IAM Cycling bring an experienced team. Thomas Löfkvist, winner of the Tour Méditerranéen Cycliste Professionnel early in the year, & Martin Elmiger, winner in the recent Tour du Limousin.  They are both great options for GC. Team manager "We are coming to Britain with the intention of getting results and not simply to give our guys some training days to prepare for the Worlds in Florence." Bookies have Löfkvist ahead of Elmiger!

btw, the Vuelta stage today was awesome. Young French fella Ellisonde rode a great race, another sign that the young French riders are starting to believe in themselves.

Nibali put up one hell of a fight, but Horner was just too strong. Opinion seems divided on Horner, I'm sceptical, but hate to condemn without any evidence. It'll take a while post Armstrong too just enjoy a performance & not question it I guess. Still the Vuelta proves to be one of the most exciting & unpredictable Grand Tours.

Irishman Philip Deignan, riding for UnitedHealthcare, has put in some great results this year in the States. He comes to the TOB with a Sky contract for next year & I'm sure with the intention of showing strongly here. PP best at 50/1.

Two young futures stars of British road racing. Twin brothers, Simon & Adam Yates, both finished in the top ten at the recent Tour de l'Avenir. They'll be in the mix for stage wins & looking to impress the bigger teams.

Bardiani Valvole bring an interesting team. With climber & Giro KOM winner Stefano Pirazzi & the young Bongiorno, who looks to be having a breakthrough season. The weather could be a shock to the system for the Italian team.

I'd expect to see Anthony Delaplace or David Lelay of Sojasun go for a high GC.

Marcin Bialoblocki, age 30! of Team UK Youth (owned by Nigel Mansell) should be in the mix after a win in Ireland's An Post Ras.

Finally another young British talent, Michael Cuming of Rapha Condor will be looking to build on his win at the Tour of Korea in June.

Wiggins in beast mode today. We'll see if Sky are capable of defending his lead for the rest of the race.

Small EW interest in tomorrow, stage 6.

Martin & Quintana will be testing each other out, & the young Brit will wanna get involved.

Adam Yates 66/1.

Despite a crash earlier in the race “There are still some good stages ahead for me. I’ve got my eye on that stage in Devon, although Simon could make the top 10 and I will work for him. But, because he’s my brother, he’ll let me have a bit of a freedom if I’m feeling good. I reckon that stage is going to be a really savage one, but I’ll have a good crack at it.”
