Table tikay has been rather aggressive, a little in attitude as well as play, but there have been some resulting large hands -

Dan Smith doubles up in a rather hairy situation - he'd raised in position and got called, flop Qc 8h 6c.  His opponent immediately pushed all-in for 29k (that's an overbet, that is) and Dan decided to call with his Tc Th...  He was up against Ac Kc and said, "I had a tense moment," as the turn and river came blanks.  But he's now got 65k which is nice.

A minute later and short stack Peter Evans is all-in with Jc Js, with two potential callers.  In the end it's a simple race against the Ad Kc of Owen Lyons, who lost it and is down to the felt.

Nick Slade is OUT.

He raised under-the-gun with Pocket 4's, only to find action from Dave O'Callaghan in late position with A-T.

On their backs, and an Ace on the Flop was enough to win it for the Irishman who rakes in a nice pot.

Neil Kelly has doubled up off John Clancey. T-T vs 9-9.

Some counts being announced by a roaming Fintan -

CK Le        40,000
Stephen MacLean  30,000
Richie Lawler    50,000
Kevin Parkes    72,000
Brendan McKenna   15,000
Zeke              22,000

A threeway all in attracts Announcement, and thereby me into the crowd - it's Ahrt 5h vs. 7s 7c of Conor Smith vs. Ks Kc of Tommy Watson who called after all the action in front of him, giving away the fact that his hand was a good deal better than average...

Flop (for the sake of drama, coming out one card at a time):  Aspades
Kd
3c
Turn:  7d  "Something for everyone, but more for Tommy"
River:  Th  and Conor Smith is eliminated.

---------------

Meanwhile, Kevin Buckley has surpassed the 30k mark after finding 8-8 vs A-J on a J-8-x Flop.

Some chip counts from around the room, which is being mixed up like a poker blender as players bust out every few minutes and the tables broken down - we're finding our lists of players (which only just appeared in their entirety) are not a lot of help any more.

Kieran Small      41,000
Billy Ngo           30,000
Dinh Le            8,000
Collette Murphy  30,000
Jim Reid             34,000
Mats Iremark      20,000
Thomas Dunwoodie  27,500
tikay                  14,000
Dan Smith          77,000
Sligo John          107,000
Stephen MacLean  46,000
Peter Evans         24,000
Sean Clery          20,000  (apparently driving his table slightly nuts)

John Keown is OUT.

In fact, his exit has led to Richie Lawlor taking the chip lead with over 100k.

First off, Richie bust his Pocket Queens with 9-7 a nine high flop, and then, the very next hand, Richie finished him off with Tens vs T-8 on Ten high board.

-----------

Keith Cummins has doubled up after calling an all-in with Pocket Tens on a Flop of 3s 2s 5h. Opponent had A-5 which failed to improve.

Neil Kelly is OUT.

All-in on a 9-4-J Flop with Q-J, he found Jack Byron with J-9. 9 on Turn sealed his fate.

So is Sean Carey.

Back to the real world, and Tikay is OUT -

He'd gotten down to under 12k, and was going to have to make a move.  As it turns out that move was with Kc Kd on the blinds (hooray!), but the late position raiser was short-stacked Mats Iremark (pictured) who'd pushed with Ad 3d.  All fine until the river, then the Ace.  Hard luck, Mr. Kendall.

Gerry Dolans has doubled up off Broadway regular C Constantinou, K-Qs vs K-To.

Gerry is now on around 20k.

Noel Hayes is OUT.

We've been told the aim of today, tournament running wise, is to get all the way down to the Final Table of 9.  They've got a seriously long way to go if that's to happen... Meanwhile there are a couple of stacks which are considerably bigger than the rest of the field - one of them this guy's - Richard Lawler - over 80k.

Title: Re: Irish Poker Championships Day 2 - At A Glance

Thomas Dunwoodie has jumped from 9k to 30k after his 8-7 made trips on an 8-8-x board. Mateyboy had Threes.

54 remaining...

Paul Morrow -- 92,100
Jim Reid -- 52,200
Pat Callaghan -- 138,300
Dan Smith -- 33,800
Keith Cummins -- 58,800
Collette Murphy -- 47,300
Mats Iremark -- 33,800
Thomas Dunwoodie -- 30,600
Kevin Parkes -- 92,100
Jerry Dolans -- 17,700
Kevin Buckley -- 57,800

Double up for Dave Callaghan - it's all going right for the young Irish player - moving in with Ad Ks, he found a caller in C. Kennedy's 8d 8h.  The board brought two Kings and no danger after the flop, so Dave's up to around 60k from less than 20k at the beginning of this level.  Mr. Kennedy is literally down to the felt, one layer of chips which, yes, I can see just now have gone...

-------------

C Constantionou has bitten the dust.

Danced his last waltz with Pocket Eights, but found two callers, one of whom hit 2 pair by the Turn wiht A-T on an T-5-A-K board. 9 on the River was no help.

Post by: Djinn on January 06, 2007, 05:19:10 PM
There was a short stack under the gun all-in on Jim Reid's table just now - the bet, less than 15k in total, was pretty quickly called by the next player to act.  Slightly less quickly, Jim Reid then passed (Deuces, he said), and the caller actually added, "Do me a favour, all of you fold..." (ah, the total relaxation of anything resembling a Moody Rule, wonderful to watch).  They all did fold, and all-in showed Ks Qh, while caller showed Aspades Kh.
Flop:  7c 3c Qd
Turn:  2h
River:  8c

Double up for UTG, slight scowl for Jim Reid.

Dan Smith    34,000
Dinh Le          OUT
Kieran Small   38,000
Billy Ngo         OUT

Geordie lad, Thomas Dunwoodie, is also OUT.

First lost 30k to Mats Iremark with middle pair and flush draw vs K-Q on a King high board.

And then lost a coinflip with K-Q vs T-T. A King on the flop teased the Brit, but the following Ten forced him onto the rail.

Ciaron Burke has been flying high for a while now, but he's just dropped down to 150k after a encountering a fearless Richie Lawler.

Flop = Ad Qs Jd

Lawler (right and button) bets 7k, Burke makes it 21k and Lawler moves all-in for 69.5k.

Burke (left) seems to be in pain, but eventually opts for the fold.

Lawler proudly reveals Qd 9d

Double through for Bernard Dunne (champion boxer guy) off Stephen MacLean -

Stephen raised to 6k (blinds 1k/2k) and found Bernard on the button moving in for another 14,600 on top.  A great big dwell followed:
"Here's your chance to say you knocked me out."  (This was only funny to me in retrospect when I found out he was a famous boxer).
"Or doubled you up," mused MacLean.  Eventually, he called with Ad Qs, but found Ac Ahrt against him.
The flop brought straight split outs for Stephen as well as a Queen - Tc Jh Qc, but the harmless 2d 7d came next and that's a 20k hole in MacLean's stack.

--------------

Also...

Timely double up for Eoin Olin who takes a chunk out of Dan Smith's monstrous stack.

All-in on a Flop of Qs 6c Js with Pocket Jacks, Eoin, who ran well in the Dublin EPT, fends off Dan's 4s 5s with great ease, especially when he fills  up on the Qd Turn.

Threeway min-raise pot, it looked like, with a flop of Qs 9s 6h.  Tommy Watson in the big blind bet out 9,000, the player in the middle passed and late position CK Le called.  The turn brought the Qc.  Check-check.
River:  6d.  Tommy checks again, and CK checks behind.  Very wise not to take a shot at it, considering he got shown Qd 9h for a nice big house...

Dan Smith bluffs off a few chips to a big blind, having limped in mid position and checked it down heads up until the board read 5s 7h Qh Jc Kc.  The smallish-stacked big blind then bet 7k on the river, and Dan raised him a further 16k.  Even though it was most of his stack to call, something must not have sat right about this raise (why so much, hmmm?) and he called, winning it with the Js for a pair of Jacks.  Not too dented, Mr. Smith, though.

Huge three way pot which has led to the exit of Carl Longmore.

The shortest of the three stacks, Carl moved all-in on a board of 2h 8d 5c 7c, only for John Clancey to shove all his chips in.

And if that wasn't enough, a third man (sry, don't know his name) announces all-in too!

The hands?

Carl Longmore = 7-5
John Clancey = 8-8
Mateyboy = 7-7

Incredibly, everyone was drawing dead except for Clancey who picks up a monster monster pot

120k pot changes hands now - a Button raise to 8,500, a small blind re-raise to 26,500, a button all-in and a call for over 30k more...
Button:  8c 8s
Small blind:  Ahrt Kh
Flop:  Kd Ks 4c  and with no eights surfacing, that makes Keith Cummins one of the bigger stacks, and the largest on his table.

Tough break for Dave Callaghan News Now -

He must have raised with his Ad 9s, and found the small blind moving in... he made the call and was rewarded with seeing Qs Jc.
Flop:  9h Kd Th
Turn:  4c
River:  8h  and he's been knocked right down to 10k while the 40k+ pot disappears down the other end of the table.

------------

On another table...

Phil Harris has just doubled up to 25k+ courtesy of Paul Morrow with A-K vs A-9s. Flush with the King by the River.

If possible will you update me on the progress of Caimin Kennedy. In the pictures you gave he was at the table with the guy with the shiny rim around his cap. Thank you.

No worries, I think Jen is on the case now.

Absolutely Ridiculous Hand News Now -

Daniel Smith had managed to yo-yo back down to just 8,000 (I missed something big), but this hand, where he moved all-in blind and announced it to the table, was more fun, I'm sure.  He was called first by the player he described as "the tightest on the table" and the big blind too.  He flipped his cards briefly upwards, and I saw the monstrous 2h 4s.  It looked all over.
Flop:  4d Qd 4h.  He didn't say a word, as the others both checked.
Turn:  Qc  Now the tight caller moves in for about 10k.  Dan is crushed.  As the other player decides whether or not to call, he shouts to Dad that it's all gone pearshaped.
"I make a tenner in the last longer!"  Gloats Chris Smith.
"Aim for the 140 Grand instead..." suggests Dan.

Anyway, the middle guy gets out of the way, and convinced he's up against the Queen, Dan shows the house of fours.  No, it's Ac 5s, and he trebles up.  "I love this game."

And British player Paul Morrow takes yet another hit, this time dropping down to 80k at the hands of Keith Maguire.

All the spondoolies flew in on a Flop of Td 9s 9d (wasn't too much more for Paul to be fair) with Morrow holding Qc Tc and Maguire sitting pretty with the Bullets.

A Jack on the Turn scared the bejesus out of him, but another on the River confirmed him the pot.

Daniel Smith is now OUT.

Collette Murphy, the only female player remaining, has doubled up with Pocket Kings versus Pocket Sevens. Hairy moment when the Turn brought a devilish flush draw, but the Irish lass survived.

More bad news for the Brits as Jim Reid goes crashing out.

Eion Olin placed the finishing touches (Q-2 vs J-T all-in preflop with a 7-T-Q-J-9 board), but most of the damage was done by Dermot Jacob whose Queens outdrew Jim's Cowboys in one of those unavoidable battle of the blinds encounters. That put knocked him down to just 7.5k, and with the blinds at 1.5/3k, Jim was removed the very next hand.

----------------------

Meanwhile...

We're now down to 35 after losing another player at the hands of Sean Clery who adds another 10k to his stack.

Raising from second position (20k with A-K), Mateyboy decided that J-6 was the hand to push with as he stuck in his remaining 10.5k from the button.

Board = 8c 3d 8s Th 4h

A little rush of all-ins going on here - first Sligo John moves all-in under the gun for 23,800.  Former chip leader Lam Tinh thinks for a good while before calling.  No one else is interested, and as the dealer says, "On their backs," John comes back with, "On their Jacks?" showing Jc Jc.  Lam's 9d 9c not looking healthy.
Flop:  Th Qh 4d
Turn:  9h
River:  Kh  Saved by the straight.  "The best hand wins," allows good-natured loser Tinh...

And we're down one Bernard Dunne - he got into what he probably thought was a good situation, all in on the turn with a board of 2s 9c 9h 3s holding the nice-looking 9d Td.  I bet both players checked the double-nined flop.  Unfortunately his opponent held Ahrt 9s, and the Six on the river changed nothing.  Down to four tables.

We've lost the end of Day 1 chip leader, Lam Trinh.

He'd dented his stack previously, but decided Nines were the hand. Unfortunately, he ran into both the Jacks of Seamus O'Reilley and the Ladies of Mike Healey, the latter standing up on a harmless 3-8-8-4-6 board.

Chris Smith's slow-and-steady approach means that he may be hovering on around average chips when stacks like his have been won and lost several times by more erratic stack-builders, but he's just won another small pot - after an UTG limper he picked up in two hands what can only be described as a chunk of 1k yellow chips and put them in the middle.  His raises seem to be respected; he showed Ac Kh which he no doubt hopes will enhance that respect...

Elsewhere Caiman Kennedy is holding on to his big stack, but he's not pressed the 'Sit Out' button, raising in position but folding to a bet from big blind caller Shane Clearey on the flop.

---------------

Desi Graham is OUT.

Last hand before his break, he made his move with Ac Jc but ran into the Kings of Dermot Jacob.

70k pot went to Jacob when the board came 3d 2s 6s 6c 7c

Eoin Olin -- 70,000
C Kennedy -- 180,300
Ciaran Burke -- 76,300
Shane Clearey -- 115,800
Tom McDaid (sp?) -- 53,300
Dermot Jacob -- around 100k
Riche Lawler -- 33,300

Paul Morrow has doubled up courtesy of Keith Maguire who is down to just 15k as a result.

Morrow = 8c 8h

Maguire = Qc Kh

Board = 9s 3h 6h Ad Jc

Paul Morrow continues to yoyo, this time moving in the right direction after eliminating short stacker Kevin Maguire with A-4 vs K-T.

Meanwhile, Shane Cleary has been dented by early chip leader Ciaran Burke, his A-9 failing to outdraw his opponent's Pocket Sixes, all-in preflop.

Just 29 left.

Biggest Pot of the Day -

Tommy Wilson raised preflop in late position, and CK Le re-raised on the button, all in, for his 131,000 stack.  Tommy, who covered him, called.  A big crowd gathered as the chips were counted down...
Tommy showed:  Aspades Qs
CK showed:  Kd Ks

Flop:  6c Ts 3h
Turn:  5s  (there was a great bubble of tension around the table now, and CK Le was stood on his chair)
River:  Qd  And the victorious Le gave a whoop as he rose to the enviable Chip Leader position.

Trevor McGooner = Qs Qd

Tommy Watson = Ad 9s

How about this for a hand??

John Clancey raises from under the gun, Skigo John smooth calls, Kevin Buckley moves all-in for an extra 11.5k, Chris Smith moves all-in, Clancey re-re-raises and Sligo John, who said he felt this was his hand and that Clancey was trying to push him off with a vulnerable hand, folds Kc Qc.

On their backs, and take a look at this...

John Clancey = Ac Kd

Kevin Buckley = Aspades Ks

Chris Smith = Ahrt Kh

Of course, the crowd wanted an action flop, but it didn't happen.

Flop = 5d 3s Qh

However, the Turn brought tension to 2 players.

Turn = Th

Only for them to breathe a sigh of relief on the River.

River = 2d

Sligo John, who almost made a suspect call for all his chips, didn't look best pleased.

Paul Morrow (who is now OUT) pictured here...(on interactive thread)

On a flop of 4d 5h 6d  Paul Morrow got the full 127,200 in with Kc 9c, against John Clancy who called the final raise with Td Tc.
9s on the turn, and a blank river, and half the English players just pressed the red button.

Tom McDaid outdraws Dermot Jacob's Kings on a J-T-2-9-7 board for a timely double up.

--------------

Other news...

One of the few non-Irish players remaining is Dutchman Jens Klenning (apologies for any incorrect spelling), and he has just eliminated one of the locals in Shane Cleary, who until recently had never looked in danger.

However, all the chips went in pre-flop with Shane's Big Slick up against Jens' Pocket Sevens.

No improvement on the Q-4-3-9-J Flop and Shane is a gonna.

The highly rated Pat O'Callaghan is OUT in rather spectacular circumstances. All-in with Aces versus chip leader Keith Cummin's Queens, the cruel game brought a Queen on the Turn and no miracle Ace on the River.

There was a big celebration from Keith who yelped as he punched the air, but he soon consoled a clearly devastated O'Callaghan.

Another man down.

In 21st place finishes Chris Smith - he moved in from the big blind over the top of a 25k button raise.  He had around the same again, and he eventually got a call, showing Tc Jc.  Not a bad hand, for sure, but against the Ts Th, not a great one.  He picked up a gutshot straight draw on the turn, but that's as close as he got, and we're down the last Englishman.

-----------

Not long after...

Sean Clery doubles up to over 100k (I believe he was all-in for 52,500 in total) leaving Sligo John with just 10k in chips.

Classic coin-flip with Sean holding Tens and John Ace King.

Raggy 5-4-9-7-4 Flop and Sean's back in business.

And Sligo John is now officially El Busto (a phrase I've heard more times in two days than in the preceding ten years)...

Although the next hand was an auto-all-in on the small blind (of 3,000) for a total of 9,500 when the button raised, he managed to think about it a good deal longer than one might expect, and with Kh 9s too.  Of course, it went in, and the 6k big blind got out of the way (the button raise was more, of course, than John's stack).  In fact, John beat 8s 8c there, but it was a short reprieve.  His final hand was Ks 8c against Ad 4d and an Ace on the board finished him off.

One of the biggest hands of the night now between to chunky stackers.

Scott Byron, who is a New Yorkian working for PokerStars on the Isle of Man, checks calls Keith Cummins' 25k bet on a Flop of Ahrt Qd 6c.

Both players check the 9c Turn before Scott check calls a 60k bet on the 8c River with Ac Kh.

Keith didn't show.

Byron is now up to around 350k and looking good.

19th place finisher is Eoin Olin - all in with 9d 9c against Ad Qs.  He got a safe flop, but the Ace came on the turn, prompting a clap from his eliminator and a resigned look from Eoin.  Two tables, and next few out receiving €4,000.

------------------------

As I was doing the chip counts, they've exited for a short break, but I did manage to complete 1 table.

To nearest 5k...

(1) Colette Murphy -- 120k
(2) Mateyboy (will find out name shortly) -- 45k
(3) Caiman Kennedy -- 125k
(4) Jens Klaining -- 190k
(5) Ciaran Burke -- 195k
(6) John Clancey -- 375k
(7) Tom McDaid -- 305k
(8) Dermot Jacob -- 55k
(9) Stewart Samuels -- 165k

Table Secret English Player

Trevor McGoona    75,000
Sean Clery            90,000
Scott Byron         445,000
Kieran Small           64,000
James Lee            100,000
Keith Cummins       320,000
CK Le                   180,000
Mike Healy            175,000

Mr. Le is from Manchester!  He's now my pick, along with Colette Murphy and Scott Byron, both of whom have more tournament experience than most of the rest of them.

Just to confirm the 'in-the-money' exits.

29th = Keith Maguire
28th = Tommy Watson
27th = John Murray
26th = Paul Morrow
24th = Kevin Buckley
23rd = Shane Keary
22nd = Richie Lawler
21st = Chris Smith
20th = Sligo John
19th = Eoin Olan
18th = Jan Bendik
17th = Pat Donegar

CK Le is down to 110k after doubling up short stack Sean Kleary with K-Ts vs. Q-Q.

Shortly after...

Kieran Small is OUT.

Kieth Cummins was the assassin.

As 3s vs Ac Kd

Board = 2h Jd Td Ad 7c

Trevor McGoona finishes in 16th place -

It was a sneaky limp-re-raise from the small blind Mike Healy which got big blind Trevor to call all-in with his Ad 7d eventually.  He was up against Ac Kh.
Flop:  Kd 4h 9c
Turn: 8d  "Come on diamond!"  shouts Trevor
River:  8d  "F** it."

But people seem to be getting over their shouty elimination frustration quickly, and there were handshakes all round.

Unexpected reprieve for CK Le News Now -

He'd dwindled a bit, and got it all in pushing on a 2d 4s 3d flop.  The player who'd presumably raised and been called preflop was Scott Byron, who had Qd Qs against CK's Qh Kc.  Not looking good.

Turn:  5d  "Ace!  Six!"  Shouts Le
River:  Ad  Just like he asked for.  Clearly excited by the smiling of Lady Luck upon him, he then rather mysteriously shouts, "F** that Shit!"  Inexplicable.

On the other table, Colette Murphy raised preflop to 25k (the blinds are now 4k/8k ante 500).  She's called by small blind Ciaran Burke.
Flop:  3d 8s 8h.  Ciaran checks and she takes her time checking too, giving him a bit of a stare.
Turn:  Jh.  Ciaran bets out 30k.  Colette moves in sharpish, and he releases without too much of a think.  She's up to 150k now.

Title: Re: Irish Poker Championships Day 2 - At A Glance

CK Le finishes in 14th place, winning €5,000

He didn't look like he was going to sit quietly for very long, and pretty soon he was all in preflop with Aspades Qs against Jens Klaning's Js Jh

Flop:  4s Qd Kc ..but you know from the title of this post that this doesn't hold...
Turn:  Jd
River:  Not a Ten

And that really is the end of the English players.  I think.

And we've lost another!

This time it's C Kennedy, who qualified for an impressive €10.

He had 9-8 on an 8-7-T Flop, but was called by a T-6 which held up.

Double up for James Lee - 75,000 is looking a bit short at this point, and he took a shot with 8c 8s, up against Ad Td.
The board came out 9h 7h 6c 5h... with an anticlimactic (i.e. not a spectacular outdraw) Js on the river.  Up to 160k.

Eliminationtastic last ten minutes -

12th place finisher (€7,000) was Mike Healy, who flopped bottom pair with his A4 and made a bit of a move into a non-folding pair of Tens...

11th place went to Sean Clery (€8,000), when the 4s 4c of Keith Cummins stayed good against his overcards (Ad 6s).

So we're hand for hand....

It's all over!  (Well, until the final table tomorrow)

Short stack James Lee moved in over the button raise of Jens Klaning with Aspades Jd.  But Jens had Ad Kh, and with no help from the board, James Lee finishes in 10th place, winning €9,000.

Now the reseat is being sorted out, and play will restart tomorrow, at some time none of us seem to know.  Yet.
