Title: Expekt.com Norwegian Championships ME: Day 1b - At A Glance Post by: JungleCat03 on May 02, 2008, 02:27:37 PM :hello: and welcome back to DTD for day 1b of the Norwegian championships.
Yesterday saw a fiery start to the event, with the 249 runners whittled down to a mere 70 in next to no time. The aggressive play is likely to continue apace today as a fresh batch of Norwegians and scattered homegrown players are deposited within the bowels of DTD. Many of the big names from Norway will be appearing today including Johnny Lodden, Trond Eidsvig (or as Dana knows him, the future Mr Immanuel) and although unconfirmed as of yet, WSOPE bracelet winner Annette Obrestad willl almost certainly be diving into the event in her calm, reserved but highly capable fashion. Thusfar, the norwegians have been a breath of fresh air, exhibiting an enthusiasm for poker that is in complete accord with our own love of poker. We love em! We can't wait to see how the day pans out. Will we catch another glimpse of pink hatted, snake trouser man? Can Johnny Lodden put the heartache of recent EPTs behind him to make a serious run at the championship? Will the player base consist almost entirely of players called Jan? Join us for the 3pm start as we seek the answers to these and other questions. As usual, feel free to fire request for your favourite players at us and we will endeavour to get their chip counts, photos and pass on messages. It should be a great day. Bring it on!!!! Title: Re: Expekt.com Norwegian Championships ME: Day 1b - At A Glance Post by: Djinn on May 02, 2008, 03:13:38 PM Today another packed field has found its way into Nottingham's Dusk Till Dawn, basking in the luxuriousness of the club, enjoying copious amounts of alcohol and generally bringing a little bit of laid-back Norway to the North of England. As well as those already mentioned, among the invaders are Gunnar Ostebrod, Frode Fagerli, Rolf Woods, Henning Granstad, Jan Sjavik, and many others you may know by their online nicks, or not at all...
Meanwhile the small UK contingent bravely testing themselves in the No Limit Hold'em Arena include, today: Nick Hicks Ian Frazer Stephen Holden Pete Linton Mad Turk Sam Trickett Rupinder Bedi Chris Bruce Ali Mallu Dave Colclough Lawrence Gosney Maz Nawab. One name that is there is that of Fran, blondite LittlemissC, whose alcohol hunt last night has become the stuff of legend. She appears remarkably bright and breezy today though considering and was not posing in the slightest bit (LOL) as I took this shot of her looking mean and purposeful. Good luck Fran! I've threatened to send it to bed without supper though which for now is doing the trick so it looks like we're back on track. RIGHT! One non-Norwegian playing today, whose name has risen in prominence in recent times is that of Pete Linton. After a good performance at the Irish Open Pete has notched up a final table at the GUKPT in Manchester and recently won a tournament at this very place, DTD. I chatted with Pete and he commented on the early aggression he has witnessed "they [norwegians] sure like to play big pots early!" As if to underline this point a largish pot breaks out on his table... With the board reading 9d 6c 2c Qd, Erling Hartviksen bet out 1.6k and his opponent in the hand, Sven Hugo Vian, dwelt up for some time. Pete turned to me and said "it's been going on for about 5 minutes!" and called the clock on him. "I want to play some hands in this level!" Pete told the table...Eventually Sven passed leaving Erling to sweep up the chips and buffer his stack at this early stage... "I wanted to be in that hand" said Pete to Erling. "I had diamonds!!" and at this point he made a pushing gesture suggesting he would have piled his stack in. Improbable, given the early stages, but he got a laugh out of Sven anyway. Here is the culmination of that hand, with Sven looking suspiciously at Erling as he passes... (http://blondepoker.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=16701&g2_serialNumber=1) ...and Pete Linton, looking to continue his hot streak with a good result here... Featured is blondeite InsaneTTM, who is apparently such a keen follower of poker that one of his four computer monitors is monitoring poker fora around the world at all times, including blonde...
He's what he describes as a "Happy Amateur," enjoying the game and happy to come over here just for the craic... he's actually a massive Villa fan too and had somehow already managed to book a trip over here before knowing that the Norwegian Championships were going to be on. Oh happy coincidence! So here's what he looked like last night, c. 3am, with the superb added bonus of pink hat man: (http://blondepoker.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=16693&g2_serialNumber=1) And today, extremely hungover, c. 3pm: (http://blondepoker.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=16695&g2_serialNumber=1) Like he says, "Stein by name, insein by nature!" _________________________________________________________ Title: Re: Expekt.com Norwegian Championships ME: Day 1b - At A Glance Post by: JungleCat03 on May 02, 2008, 05:18:38 PM Slightly concerned that Little Miss C is viewing this thread - hopefully it's someone at home .......? Can someone confirm she is still in please? Yes still in. In fact she was in an interesting hand as I approached her table. The flop was A 3 3. Fran bet out and was raised by the gentleman two seats to her left, who bears a passing resemblance to Andy Black. She passed and was shown 3-3 by the gentleman in question, a Mr Oerjan Alexander Pedersen. Fran was very excited at this, allegedly passing A-J. "I can't beleive you re-raised! I would have paid you off all the way! Wow!" Here is a relieved Fran and the scandinavian version of Andy Black. Scandie Black if you will. (http://blondepoker.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=16721&g2_serialNumber=1) Dave Colclough is getting stuck in, involving himself in a few pots. After several limpers, Dave raised to 250 and received two calls. The flop came Jc 9c 2h. Check, check to Dave who threw a 500 chip out nonchalently. Called by one of the players, a Paul Johan Myklebust... TURN: A rather draw completing Kc... Check from Paul, and Dave also tapped the table... RIVER: Tc Checkage again regined supreme. "Two pair!!" anounced Paul chirpily and although Dave also revealed two pair in the form of J-T it was no good versus Paul's K-J. Small set back for El Blondie there, but he wiped out this chip loss the very next hand, calling a riase pre and betting 700 on the turn of a 7-8-J-3 board, which was sufficient to take the pot down. Excellllent! Title: Re: Expekt.com Norwegian Championships ME: Day 1b - At A Glance Post by: Djinn on May 02, 2008, 05:47:01 PM Chip counts from end of first break:

Usually, when a player is eliminated, especially when it's a kind of no-fault knockout, cold deck or some such, he gets a quiet round of applause from the other players at the table (not the sort, however, designed to make everyone look up and watch you doing the walk of shame). One such situation just occurred between these two: I think the gent on the left, seat one, is Odd Rune Olner Karlsen, while Seat Two (now OUT) is Marius Frøyen...
So. The hand. Threeway to a flop of 9d 8c 7c. Marius bet out 600, called by Martin Eikeng...back to Karlsen, who check-raised to 2,700 total. Brief pause... then Marius moves all in (c.6.5k). There is anything but an instapass from the third player, who only reluctantly gets out of the way and finds Karlsen calling - as one tends to with the nuts: Th Jh in his case. He's up against a set, however: 9s 9c in his opponent's hand making him sweat nicely through the 4c and Ad turn and river... *subdued applause* (http://blondepoker.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=16727&g2_serialNumber=1) Title: Re: Expekt.com Norwegian Championships ME: Day 1b - At A Glance Post by: Djinn on May 02, 2008, 05:58:11 PM Here I find Ian Frazer, risking a shot at a tournament that isn't 6-handed and televised ;)
He was just now waiting for an opponent to make a decision at the end of a hand with the board standing: 6d 3c Kc Qs 6h. He'd checked, "About an hour ago. The Six completely killed my hand." His oppo (the Matey on the right who appears to be the only one not interested in having his photo taken) must have checked too, because suddenly the chips were heading Frazerwards. (Incidentally, loving the 'Poker King' logoed, weird troll doll hoodied dude's look). (http://blondepoker.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=16707&g2_serialNumber=1) "Wow - you were that bad? What were you calling with?" enquires Frazer. "4-5," comes the straight answer, "I hit I get the lot." [pause] "Maybe," concedes Ian. He then points out that he's drinking tea. Yes, tea, wholesome non-alcoholic tea. (http://blondepoker.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=16703&g2_serialNumber=1) Then he asks the waitress for another shot of Sambuca: (http://blondepoker.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=16705&g2_serialNumber=1) Title: Re: Expekt.com Norwegian Championships ME: Day 1b - At A Glance Post by: JungleCat03 on May 02, 2008, 06:09:12 PM As I passed by

You did ask for it Stephen! (http://blondepoker.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=16729&g2_serialNumber=1) Dave appears to be a little shorter than earlier (chips-wise of course) and he shook his head wistfully with a rueful grin as I caught his eye...not going soooo well for El Blondie right now. Title: Re: Expekt.com Norwegian Championships ME: Day 1b - At A Glance Post by: Djinn on May 02, 2008, 06:17:30 PM Tarjei Forus (I think) raised to 450 preflop, called in one spot and then repopped to 1,800... he called along with Odd-erlend Jensen - I think cutoff Sondre Sagstuen was the raiser.
Aaaaaanyway... the flop came down Qc 4h Th and when it came to Jensen he made it 2,500 (leaving himself just 3,775 behind). Over to Forus, who noticed this, and helpfully raised just the right amount to put his opponent all in. Sagstuen had lost interest by this point, and it was back to a rather peeved looking Jensen who clearly wasn't too happy about this outcome, and eventually declined to put his tournament life on the line. Pictured: phenomenally haired Tarjei Forus, stacking in happiness. But before you get excited...this doesn't end in a player-busting, stack-building showdown. Just so you don't get your hopes up. It's just that I saw a pot with over 18,000 in the middle, which had been grown between Sindre Joramo and Rune Larsen (in the white hat). The board was lying there: Ac 3s 3d 5h Jd, and I wish I knew how all those chips had gotten there. The moment of tension which drew me to the table was, however, Joramo moving all in for around 10k and putting his opponent to a decision for the rest of his stack. The pot was spread, his head was in his hands, and it was with that sour "I really wish I wasn't doing this" expression that Larsen gave this big pot up to his opponent. Title: Re: Expekt.com Norwegian Championships ME: Day 1b - At A Glance Post by: JungleCat03 on May 02, 2008, 08:54:34 PM BAD NEWS ALERT...
The British contingent of the tournament has just been depleted somewhat... First Fran Creed who has had "A terrible day, I've never been this card dead!" The critical hand had Fran holding A-Q which she raised preflop and received a caller. "The flop came Aspades 4s 5c...I bet out and he called. Turn was the 6c..." (Unfortunately i can't read my notes here to ascertain the turn action) "The river came down the 2s...he led out weakly and I shoved allin...he did that thing I hate where he said "I think I'm behind but I call...and showed the surprising A-K! - outkicking Fran and kicking her out at the same time." She seemed a little dejected poor lamb but she'll be back soon I'm sure. Next up we have Mr Nick Hicks. After his fortuitous double earlier this hand was a bit of a cracker... After several limpers on 100/200 he raised it up from the BB with Aheart Qh to 800 and got one caller... The flop came 8h 8c 9h. Nick led for half pot and was minimum raised...he thought for a bit then made the call and checked in the dark... The turn was the Th - (nut flush.....sweeeeet!) and after Nick's dark check, his opponent bet out 8k...Nick with 12k back shoved for his last four and after a while his opponent called with 8s 6d - his trips well behind Nick's flush. With a 30k pot in the offing, Nick was in great shape to double through. He had some cards to dodge though and unfortunately for him the 8d on the river was the killer card to give his opponent quads and send Nick crashing to the rail. Nice guy that he is though, Nick was not going to stand around moaning for long and was off to try his luck in the juicy and well-stocked cash games. Here he is shortly after his departure. Good game Nick... Pete Linton: "I made an ambitious bluff. And stacked myself." It turns out that he'd called a preflop raise with Qh Js, seeing a 9h 8h 2c flop. Raiser Matey bet out, overbetting the pot, and Pete flat called. Turn: "A third heart," rank unspecified. Now Matey bet out much more weakly, and Pete called again. River: Ac Now Matey bet out a third time, bigger again, and Pete decided that now, with Queen high, was the perfect time to raise the guy 20k. His shove for 2,025 preflop was isolated by a re-raise from Victor Forberg-skogeng, which got him in the excellent position of heads up against the all in short stack with 6s 6h. The board was irrelevant as no three/weird flush/straight saved Nawab, but here it is anyway, as I was standing there and wrote it down: 4d 4h Ts Qs 2h.

That must feel better than half his starting stack, though. Right, now George2loose, aka Mr Rupinder Bedi has been much sought after by our readership, or at least a very select portion of our readership anyway. He is on c. 15k at the moment and I snapped him wearing what I regard as a highly impressive t-shirt with pacman motif. So now George, not only is your picture out there for the world to see, you have won the much coveted award of.... ..........................................................................(drum roll)........................................................................ .......(stop yawning it's coming).............................................................(nearly there) .................................... ...............(oh be quiet, you haven't got anything better to do have you!) .................................................................................T SHIRT OF THE DAY!!!!!!!!!!!! (http://blondepoker.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=16765&g2_serialNumber=1) Expect the requests for after dinner speeches, supermarket openings etc to come flooding in. CONGRATULATIONS! I hope you won't find yourself chasing too many ghosts! Good luck sir. Here is Neil Blatchly, one of the remaining Brits, and he is doing well with 25,000 of DTD's finest chips to his name. Good going sir! The Irish player followed up his success at the Irish Open by taking down one of the side events at the Manchester GUKPT and he is going well today with 32,000 to his name. Here he is, wearing his traditional hermetically sealed combination of hoody and earphones. (http://blondepoker.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=16769&g2_serialNumber=1) And as Jen related it DIDN'T happen and in fact Dave has doubled through to 12k or so... Close call - I was nearly out, but I doubled up right when I thought my luck had run dry!"
I didn't just infer all of this from his relieved expression - he said that he'd seen a flop for 1k with 9-T, which came T-3-2. Pretty good for a short stack, he thought, shoving all in for 7.5k over the top of his opponent's 2k bet, only to find he'd been called with the dominating A-T. Turn: 2 River: You know it's got to be... 9. Up to 17k and delighted about it. _________________________________________________________________ Elsewhere Stein Sjaastad has had less luck, running a set into a flopped straight and moving in on a "nonthreatening" turn, only to find a pair-less river and a seat in the bar. Better luck next time... He asked me to refer to him as "Stephen Kirk, 23 years of age, King of the Brits" So with no more ado, here is Stephen Kirk, 23 years of age, King of the Brits, who looks older than that and is actually 2nd to Ian Frazer in the Brit count today (pssst, I think that makes you queen! - sorry Stephen!) Story from (but not about) Chris Bruce (who has 30k and is proceeding confidently through the sea of madness this tournament has threatened to become for a long time)... Last hand before the break, there's a raise to 800, a call, and then the big blind pushes all in for 5k or so. Original raiser passes, but the second guy dwells and calls with 4d 4c. Title: Re: Expekt.com Norwegian Championships ME: Day 1b - At A Glance Post by: JungleCat03 on May 02, 2008, 11:56:20 PM BRITWATCH!
BAD NEWS & GOOD NEWS! First off we have Richard Berridge. He found himself as a shortstack after an ill timed bluff which was picked off by someone with top pair. Down to 7k or so, he was in no mood to hang about, twice moving in preflop soon afterwards. The first time, his shove over the late position raise of Rune Jacobsen to 1200 for 6k more was successful and he padded his stack slightly. His next shove however found his opponent holding either 88 or KK, not 100% certain, but whichever, his Kc 6c was no good once the river had been dealt meaning we are one Berridge shaped Brit down... BUT that brings us onto the GOOD news for the Brits, as Rupinda Bedi was the man who dealt the fatal blow to Richard, meaning our very own pacman-shirted George2loose has bolstered his stack nicely as we head into break 3. So tears of sadness for some, tears of joy for others, some sort of restraints for Jen please as she has started behaving oddly. I think that proposal from the mad Norwegian drunk guy may have tipped her over the edge. She is moments away from running around with a pretend sword clutched above her head screaming "I f*** your head off!!!"...HELP!!!
