Nice work Geo.

Are those cranes redundant now?

Yes Tom, have been for many years. Last time I went down (bout 10 years ago) the ladders where still attached and you could still climb up into the cabins. They are no longer there and I was not suitably kitted for climbing up the frame, maybe next time as I'd like to get pics from inside.

Did anyone look up and see the Moon halo tonight?

I didn't get any pictures of it myself but it looked like this:

Why does it happen you ask?

http://hyperphysics.phy-astr.gsu.edu/hbase/atmos/moonhalo.html

I have this photo I took a few years ago of a halo around the sun. It's not very good because it was taken through the window of a moving car.
Iv'e never seen one before or since, although Iv'e seen one around the moon a few times. In fact I saw a double one once, but I did'nt have a camera with me Sad

Love the crane photos, Geo.

Probably incorrectly, but I would describe them more as "derricks" than cranes.

Great photos though, sort of symbolic, but stopping short of arty-farty.

Just caught up. Been some great posts.

Geo's inner cog pic is superb.

Abso love Red's dramatic sky pic.

Also a big fan of Christie's pics, esp the Daisy one.

Gutted i didn't have my camera with me on the way back from Brum yesterday!! the cooling towers from Ratcliffe on Soar power station bellowing smoke looked immense against the early evening sky. For anyone who doesn't know which ones i mean here are a couple of images taken from google. I think i will drive out there at some point to get my own snaps.

Geo

That one's my fav so far

I love these pics Geo, I had some go at getting machinery and industrial pics from around the docklands when I was there last year ...

... but the problem with them is that everything has been so neatly and effectively anaesthetized and made safe they lose any interest when you get closer. Everythings welded up and painted over, so the fact that they were originally working bits of machinery is lost and they might as well have just been built as street furniture to start with.

Agree with you there Jon, it's much the same down Leith. The swing bridge and Lock have been overpainted in that gaudy red colour and would have made a better pic if they were all rusted etc.

I didn't have much time down Leith as the weather was due to turn bad later that day so will be taking another trip down. The cranage and ships etc still on the docks is still quite impressive.

There's also an old disused mill, a huge place, which I would love to get inside, may have to do another early morning "recce" for that.

Glad you enjoyed the pics

Edit: Apologies to Gatso for the schoolboy quoting

I'll bow to your superior knowledge on these thing TK. As I said recently, it's what I love about most threads here, always something new to learn

Yo gouty,

GREAT Red Arrows photo, very well done to the Laddo.

Not so sure about the other one, if he were my lad I'd be worried if he were developing arty tendancies.
