The reactions from the crowd & the boy's teammates was what did for me. Autistic & Aspergers kids are supposed to struggle to make friends, but that boy's got loads of them, Rochester NY isn't one of the best areas either if I remember correctly.

it is true that autistic children struggle to make friends, its more that they grow to get used to other children being around them.for some reason though other children love autistic kids.

Ah, I get you. I don't remember meeting anyone with autism, although I've worked with engineers who quite possibly had mild asperger's (which predisposes people to engineering apparently).

On a slightly related subject, there's a book by Elizabeth Moon called "Speed of Dark" which I read which seemed to deal with Autism very well (it's set in the future, but isn't really sci-fi), I recommended it to a mate with an autistic child & he said it was brilliantly written.... http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/0345447549/qid=1141039807/sr=1-1/ref=sr_1_2_1/203-0529778-2780711.

Cheers,

Rod

That's a great vid. Must show it to the missus who will shed a tear or two no doubt.

That's close to home as my kids play a lot with a neighbours boy who has autism but is the salt of the earth. A truly loving caring kid, but simply prone to the occasional outburst.

On a slightly o/t side note, since I've been playing poker I seem to have developed torrets syndrome.

It's funny, I see horror stories that tear me up inside and make me dispair for the future of mankind, but it's the stories of love, compassion and triumph in adversity that make me cry
