Title: Ah got a feelin!
Post by: shipitgood on October 22, 2013, 05:06:59 PM
Hey everyone,

New to the forum! I'm going to start a diary on here showing how I get on at poker over the next couple of months. Might post up some hand histories too to get some feedback, but not 2 many and just interesting hands!

Started playing poker about 3 years ago as a bit of fun, was introduced to the game through the Casino then pub games, really liked the game but was purely for fun. It still is fun, but I've started winning a lot more over the last 6 months to a year, would definatly say I have improved a lot in that time but there is a long way to go!

I mostly play cash and mtts, all low stake games and seem to be doing well enough at the levels I play. Looking at moving up to 20nl soon and this will really be the journey to that point.

Look forward to getting involved on the forum!

Hey Chippy and Flush thanks.

Flush, DTD? Nah i'm in Scotland lol Hardly ever play live nowadays, unless just for a bit of fun in a pub game, but definatly looking at playing at the casino (cash) in about 2 months time, when i have a bit more money behind me. I find playing live now really slow, after been used to playing online, but my friends that play live get a good turn they say Friday and Saturday nights the tables are so soft with the amount of drunks sitting down for a gamble.

This "diary" here not sure what format it is going to take yet, it's really boring just posting i won x or lost x, got it in good and got runner runnered! I'll work something out, also can't believe the amount of diaries on here, loads and loads. I'll need to take some time to check out other peoples posts.

Some on here with 1000s of pages lol that's a lot of writing.

No idea if there is many low stakes diaries on here, in a way this is what this will be.

I'll update in the next day or so what format this is going to take.

Good luck at the tables everyone!

lol love the poker speak degen haha

Degen stories? None really lol

So my challange is to get to 1k by the end of this year to give me 50 B/i for 20nl. I was on target but had a bit of a blow up day on Friday and tilted away £60 by just playing really bad. Since July i've won the vast majority of days i've been playing, maybe only having one losing session per week. That was till a couple of weeks ago, when i had 3 consective losing days, i was just getting cooler after cooler and was running really bad which seeped into playing/ bad chasing losses.

I've got a lot better at dealing with tilt, but can still rear it's ugly head on occasion. After a bad Friday, Sunday was a good day plus £50 which almost took care of Fridays losses.

So far since the end of Sept, i am up £200 towards reaching the £1000 target. It's going to be really hard given the amount of time i have to play and also the stakes i play at. Posting this publically kinda gives me an incentive.

I've got a lot better at MTT's in the last while, a nice bink would a sweet boost to bankroll!

At the moment i mostly play on Sky, but am looking at other sites to help me reach 1k target. No idea if it's mostly high stake players on here, but looking forward to gettiing

Frankie leave the poor fella alone.  You can work out his username from his badly edited post on PHA and I think he plays on skypoker.  You welcome people like this and you worry about people saying the field is soft.

Welcome to Blonde, Kevin, Celtic fan?

Hey Chippy,

I'm not trying to be anonymous, i'm involved a good amount on the sky community, just going to try here for a bit as it's not so specific to anyone particular site.

I don't really like posting hand histories and will keep it to a minimum. This keeps me focussed writing this publically, I find some "diaries" interesting, and hopefully some people will enjoy reading this.

I don't know your name either;)

Hey Doobs,

Indeed:D

On sky me and Brian (slipwater), are doing a 24 hour poker session for Cancer Research.

Any sponsorship would be greatly appreciated. Brian's down at Dusk to Dawn this weekend for the SPT, if anyone at all wants to donate it can be done through the justgiving site above, or you can see Brian at the weekend if you are playing.

Thanks

Hi Larson.

I know you. ;)

Word of warning to blondes - Larson is.....Scottish. VERY Scottish.

Welcome to blonde. Go easy at first Mr Larson, until you suss this place out - it is TOTALLY different to next door. Little steps at first, know what I mean?

Good luck bud.

PS - Don't worry about Chippyman. His name is Frankie, aka "Chinese Frankie". Has a beautiful daughter, & the best fish & chip shop in Mansfield. It has been said by some that he is loud, too. Proper player though.

Did you go to the game?

I didn't get to meet Brian at Newcastle.  Maybe Tikay can point him out to me at the weekend so I can donate.

Hey Paul!

Yeah was at the game,  brilliant! Atmosphere was amazing, brilliant result. Just hoping we can get something in holland and beat milan at home! Not much 2 ask for lol
Bit of a shame the Ajax supporters went a bit crazy, a guy was stabbed in the town before the game by an ajax supporter and they ended up tearing up seats and throwing them into the Celtic end, one just missed a young kid, and in the end the mum  left at half time, hope uefa takes a strong line against them. Was going to try and get a ticket for the game in 2 weeks, some friends and family are goingover , but after last night i'm not even going to bother.

Cant mind if you were still there on the Sunday night, Brian was playing HU in the sidey which he went onto win after the longest HU battle ever. Think we drank about 5 pints in the time it took him to finish hu lol
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Poker tonight was pretty poor! for the day i'm down £11. Just looked over some H/H's really happy with how i played, losing hands were pretty much coolers. Played 1 MTT too and went out 10 before the bubble, jammed AJ with 18 bigs blind on blind after small blind 3xed, he had AK and held ! gg

No poker today, ended up breaking my laptop by spilling milk from my cereal onto it! Totally clever haha I have no idea about computers but called up the company and they said it was probably the mother board, and basically they don't have the part any more cause the computers too old, so new lap top it is!

I was planning on getting a new laptop soon anyway, so it's just speeded up the process, and no use crying over spilt milk:P.

Wasn't sure what to get, but I've decided i'm going for an sony vaio fit, or  something similar to this

No I/net poker over the weekend, but new computer is on it's way should be delivered on Tuesday or Wednesday.

Ended up playing cash at the casino at the weekend (for the first time) which went really well! I'll update in a few days.

No idea if it was a sky player than won the SPT or a DTD player, but absolutely amazing score, very well played to the winner.

Title: Re: Poker a Journey
Post by: shipitgood on October 29, 2013, 04:47:42 PM
I've only really made some money from poker in the last 1 year, and particularly the last 6 months.

The last 6months have been phenomenal for me given the stakes I play. I was on a bit of a heater, and have been playing reasonably well too I think.

Some friends have commented and asked why I continue to play ultra  low stake games. I used to think if it's not broke why fix it, generally I really enjoy poker and winning consistently is pretty sweet.

I made a post elsewhere about "moving up stakes" and was interested to hear other peoples opinions, asking should I keep with the status quo or move up stakes and give it a go.

A couple of months ago I had a go at 20nl, only a couple of tables,  and it didn't go really well. I was only playing 2 tables, and played really bad. It wasn't a good sample size, and I wasn't "bankrolled" for it. I'm now going to give it another go.

It's time to have a go at poker at higher levels than what i'm currently playing. I have a bankroll of £1000 and if I was to set a "target" roughly speaking it would be to take 300-400 out per month while keeping my account at atleast £1000.

I played at the weekend live, it was really sweet I made over £300 (I had sat down with 200), cashing out my chips they asked do you want it in 50s! Crazy walking out of a casino with 10 £50 notes, plus a few other notes too lol

Next day decided I better get it banked, cause no shops, or hardly any, take 50 quid notes lol Got it paid into my "poker account". From that account £1000 is my new "bankroll".

I have a 20% drop zone if I ever get to £800 or below, I will re think what i'm doing, but doubt this will be an issue, hope not anyway!

Wish me luck:)

Was on today, unfortunatly i'm going 2 a party tonight, so couldn't make it.

Know what you are saying, at newcastle spent a fortune on drink!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It's been a bizarre couple of weeks with the poker. Just after my last post on here i went on an amazing heater, i had  a run of 6/7 consecutive winning days. Life was good, it was easy, confidence was through the roof.

Things changed on Monday of this week, I ended up 3.5 bi's down. I wasn't playing particuarly bad just running terrible. Tuedsay through to Thursday, i had a massive swing up and down, winning and losing, it's the most swingy time i've ever experienced with poker. I was so annoyed with myself cause i had started to play really bad, a good example I have AQ, in a 4 bet pot, Queen high flop, we get it in on the flop, of course he has kings! It's so obvious he had an over pair, but instead of calling opponents flop bet i go and reraise and called his shove, pretty bad.

It was made worse by the fact i was chasing losses and played a lot more 20nl over 10nl.

I was tilted, playing bad and running bad. I'm embarassed looking at some of the hand histories.

Another thing that was tilting was every table had 3/4 tight "regulars" on them (at 10nl) so there was no action at all, and they were on every table, so things were really slow.

Friday and today have been really good days and i'm in profit overall for the week which on Thursday wouldn't have seemed possible.

It's been a turbulent week at the poker but long term it's taught me some important lessons, especially don't play when tilted, just stop! Better to be down 2 bi than making it worse by losing more.

There's also a lot of stuff i need to learn in relation to poker. If i want to play 20nl and beat 20nl convinclingly, there's a lot of work to be done!

"Poker a journey" is a pretty bad title, I need a new title, suggestions welcomed!

In December i'm going to try and make £1000 clear profit, cause i'm going to have loads of time to play.

Given the stakes I play it's going to be really difficult, I've already had a couple of messages from people saying it's almost impossible playing 10nl with some 20nl and low stake MTTs, but that's the goal for December, I just need to run awesome.

Title: Re: Poker a Journey

My MTT stats for November:

SCHEDULED 11/01/2013-11/25/2028    83   £2.47   £2.09   143%   £205   75

I've just been really lucky in a lot of spots, hopefully it continues into December!

Cash has went really well overall, won a good amount at 10nl, lost about 4 bi's at 20nl, and won 1 bi at 50 nl

I played about 4 hours tonight, was really frustrating, within about 30 mins I was down 2 buy in's got coolered once and another hand where I could have folded.

I stopped playing then went back for another session, and at one point was 4 bi's up, but went and through away just under 2 bi's for what was just over a break even session. Just annoying cause I lost money in stupid spots that should have been folds.

Title: Re: Ah got a feelin
Post by: shipitgood on December 04, 2013, 12:14:49 PM
Just ran pretty bad yesterday, annoying when it happens lol

I played again for about 30 mins and ended up about 1 bi up, so not terrible. Just a lot of play for not much return!

What are peoples thoughts on MTT's over Cash.

Do you think it's better just to concentrate on one over the other?

Loads of people say I should play Sats for bigger events, just don't like sats! I probably should start doing this.

Title: Re: Ah got a feelin
Post by: Young_gun on December 06, 2013, 04:02:35 PM
do whatever suits u, some ppl play both and others concentrate on one.

I usually ko on sky mtt's then load up cash, used to play cash alot more so I was freerolling mtt's most the the time.

some days as u know you are more in the mood for one, go for that generally

This week i'm going to focus on MTT's.

It's double guarantee week on sky, so will be playing most of the main events, hoping to get a nice score!

I have 70% action in myself, with 2 others having 30%.

Never done this before, hopefully nice profits all round!

I played last night, was really pleased with how I played, I ran terrible, there was 45 minutes where I had to fold every hand, couldn't believe I cashed in 2 of the tournies.

Hopefully the run good is there for this week, one time:D

Wish me luck!

Title: Re: One Time
Post by: shipitgood on December 10, 2013, 01:26:28 AM
Double Guarantee's week has started!

I ended up Satting into the primo last night, cost me £8 in total, I finished about 100th, just shy of the money bit of a cooler, KQ, on a 23QK board, all in on turn opponent had KK good game!

I bought in directly for the main tonight, I ended up getting just more than a min cash, went out 60th, was a bit disappointing I lost A8, versus KJ blind on blind.

60   £44.18 + £22.50

I won a £1 sat for the main tomorrow (it's only an £11 bi), but still not bad getting in for a quid. People are talking me into playing the Wednesday rebuy, but I really think a day off would be good. I'll see closer to the time.

Title: Re: One Time

Today was pretty bad!

I busted 5 MTTs in under an hour, and then on monkey tilt went and lost 3 bi's at cash, had a break, and won some back.

That's the worst I've ever done, busting 5 mtts so quickly.

In the end i'm only down a small amount today, first losing day in a while.

24 hour poker session on Saturday. Pretty crazy stuff, i'll just be glad when it's finished! So far just under £600 has been raised for charity so it'll be worth it in the end.

Came on here, read the thread about "Peter Finch" not funny but entertaining, who needs Jerry Springer? lol

@ JGill, it didn't go well at all. Monday was the highlight and it soon went down hill! Monday ended up 50thish, lost A9 vs KJ blind on blind. Cashed for about £67, Tuesday was running well till i lost AK versus Ace 7, then with my remaining stack i lost a flip.

Thu, i lost AK vs queens all in pre early doors. Friday was just cooler after cooler. Pretty poor.

24 hour game was really tough, a lot tougher than i expected!, but raised over £1200 for cancer research so was delighted such a good amount was raised. Thought £500 would be great before it started.

@ TK doesnt look like i've recovered! Not played much sinse the weekend, but generally it's not been optimal when playing! And i don't think subo is on here.

@Jac, should give live play a go again, just difficult getting into the casino and back again, plus the games don't normally start till late. Forster's not for sale, but Samaras is available!

2014

Next year, especially first 3 months i expect i'll be putting in a lot less volume.

But  would like to make £5k profit, and ideally £10k profit, which will be a lot more challenging. £100 a week is easily doable, £200 maybe a bit 2 much!

I've always been nitty with Bankroll, and keep getting pelters for playing the games i do!

At some point may go a bit aggressive with bankroll, to try and really spin it up, will wait and see.

Merry Christmas everyone and a happy new year:D

Last night just played 1 game, the Christmas cracker at 9:00 ended up coming 2nd for just under £300.

Biggest online win so far, was a bit disapointed not to take it down, lost A10 versus K7 all in pre to be left with 2 bigs!

A win would have meant over £600 as there was also a £110 seat for next weeks Sunday roller, which i had already qualified for.

Tho can't grumble was still glad to get a deeprun and surely the big win is coming in 2014, maybe next Sunday!

played the main event tonight on Sky.

Finished 48th, 40 paid.

My exit hand was K5 OTB with 10bigs, jammed it into the blinds was called by ace 9 which held.

I don't mind the Jam here, but maybe was a mistake.

Bit disapointed i couldn't go the distance, but one time it will happen.

Just worked out how to get graphs into a forum post!

These are my stats from Sharkscope since I started playing on Sky and from Sept- to present.

I'm going 2 play 100 MTT's at £5.50 to £11 stakes.

Sharkscope below exludes one win on Sky just before Christmas, "the Christmas Cracker" in which I came 2nd for just under £300. It was a password protected game, so hasn't been picked up by sharkscope.

Also the recent drop was from the £110 main event, which I satted into through a freeroll.

I'm going to keep a track of those 100 games on here.

Just looked at these, neither graph looks that impressive.

I started to make profit from MTT's about the middle of this year. To date I've mostly played low stake bi games.

Everyone keeps saying I should be playing bigger games, so that's what i'm going 2 be doing over this month. I will still play low stake games, but also throw in bigger bi's aswell.

My ROI from MTTs, from June/July - present is really decent, looking to maintain that.

Went off cash a bit, not that I lost or went on a downswing, just don't have much of an urge to play cash right now. So decided it was a good time to give MTT's a good go.

My goal for this year with MTTs, is to have 2k profit as shown on SS by some point this year.

Just seen MC's thread (top of the page)

Absolutely phenomenal reading.

I'll use it as motivation to keep improving, and hopefully get the results in.

Larsonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn

How are you big man?

I just wanted to explain to you, because I believe the matter arose, about Staking here.

We are very strict about it, but it's not personal - you need 300 Posts before you can use the Staking Board.

It's not the perfect system - there is no such thing - but it is probably the best of the worst. I'm fdraid we had a bad do or two back in the day, & so we needed to try & control it better.

Hope all is well with your poker, Next Door & wherever else you play.

I believe you won a "Top of the Posts" entry into a nice 6 runner Freeroll SNG last week with a few bob up top. How did that go? You won it, right? 2nd? 3rd?

Hey Tikay!

Sorry for the late response, just seen your message this morning!

I read the staking thread after I had posted in here, all the rules, that it applied to all forum posts not just those within the staking section.

Must say I agree, it's good that some one can't just join and post in there right away to prevent fraud/ scams.

Oh yeah Top of the Posts entry! Can't really remember that, but i'm pretty sure I was out to a sick bad beat, like when I got it in behind, flopped the nut flush draw, turned a straight draw, Had an Ace as back up  and bricked the river :)

That was a nice gesture you made on the day.

Went to start my car this morning, stopped at newsagents, came back out to start it up and it wouldn't start!

Pretty annoying lol, ended up getting the RAC out who were superb as ever, got the car started and straight down to the garage.

Hopefully it's not going to be 2 bad, but will find out soon enough!

Decided I wasn't going to play much in January, and when playing was going to focus on MTT's.

Have been pretty fed up with cash for some reason, not that I've lost at cash, it was just getting monotonous.

Same thing has happened with MTT's, I've been running pretty bad, playing pretty bad to aswell to an extent. I've not made a FT or won anything in ages.

Maybe just variance.

HU Poker

I've been playing a lot more HU poker, cash and sit and go's.

I made a mistake last week in regging for a £105 turbo sit and go ended up playing 2 against a high stakes reg. Luckily I won both game, so it was all good. I clicked re register and it came up £105 bi, I couldn't believe it! Snap de regd, checked my account couldn't believe it was £200 quid up, silly mistake turned good.

I thought it was a £1.05 sit and go lol

I was just practising stuff, playing these games different to how I used to play them.

Friday and Saturday, played quite a lot of £5 turbo games, maybe about 70-80, my roi was about 3-4 %. Over a large sample I reckon roi would be about 6-8%.

Also played quite a bit of HU Cash, I played one awesome player the rest I was really comfortable against. The really good player, had never heard of him before, it was only at 20nl, but he was 3 betting light a lot, really mixing it up. Definatly the trickest player I have played HU. He ended up stacking me, I had the nut flush he had a FH, but was a great game.

Played another HU game on Saturday night, stacked the player 4 times.

In the chat box he said "sigh, that's my last bullet"

I felt pretty bad, sounded like he was  only 18/19. He said he'd deposit money, build it up and lose it all. Was making a lot of mistakes, I told him to build a bankroll and get involved on the community on sky to help him improve his game.

Talked over a few of the hands with him.

His goal was to be a pro, maybe one day he will be a pro and can help me out!

Title: Re: One Time

HU Part 2,

The main event on sky tonight, it's a turbo, 10 before the bubble jammed AK UTG, 16k stack, blinds 800-1600, 2 be looked up by AQ, Queen on the river! Left me with 1 big, du the next 2 hands to squeeze into the money, but run bad in mtt continues. A while ago I was making FT for fun (in low stake gameS). Now I can hardly even min cash!

So definatly think i'm going 2 concentrate onmy HU game for the time being. Bit bored of cash too, although it's where most of my profit comes from.

Thinking about doing a HU challenge, maybe try and play 1000 HU fiver sit and go's.

Hoping to get a ROI of about 10% optimistically, and realistically 6-8%.

Title: Re: One Time
Post by: shipitgood on January 15, 2014, 04:03:15 PM
These are my stats since Friday for fiver hu sit and gos on Sky

SNG  10/01/2014-15/01/2029    137   $0.63   $6.34   9.8%   $85.79   65

Quite a small sample size, but not 2 shabby.

I have lost a good few games just by playing badly/ tilty.

Wondering how many tables, HU Sit and Go players play.

At cash I can play 6, 5 is optimal. For MTT's can play 5, but 3/4 is optimal, especially if running deep!

HU I struggle 2 tabling lol Find it a lot easier playing 1 table, picking up on how players play and exploiting it.

From what I can see there really is 3 categories of player HU, really stodgy passive players, these are the hardest ones to play against really need to just grind them down and win a lot of small pots, to get them down to 500 chips then just ramp the pressure right up.

Loose and aggro players, these are my fave type of player to play against, their play is generally transparent and easier to exploit.

Guess the 3rd would be bluffers, love these players 2, just need to pick your spots to pick up the chips.

Theres this one player, he'd always donk min bet flop/ turn, and pot the river with his bluffs lol

Hey Celtic,

From Motherwell, not played live since the last time  a few months ago.

Would be nice to have a 5k roll to play live, last time I was just punting my £200, luckily I won!

Think it's time for Sammy to move on, he's been a good player for the club, scored some big goals, but just hasn't been consistant, it was all or nothing with Sammy.

Would like to see Ledley stay at the club, but looks like he'll be off too.

Izy's really found his form again. Doesn't look like Puki or Balde will ever be up to scratch. No idea why they were signed when we were looking for a proven goal scorer, which these 2 wern'nt.

Johansen looks like a great signing, hopefully he'll bring back some magic to the team.

Pokerz

Ended up playing 50nl last night, lost set of 3s versus a rivered straight. Went on tilt and spewed away another buy in. It happens!

No more 50nl for me till I have atleast 2-2.5k of a bankroll.

Easy come easy go!

MTT run bad continues, it's been about 2/3 weeks since I've ran deep in anything, FTed or won anything!

But, pretty sure MTT run good is on it's way, has to be, right ? lol

Title: Re: One Time
Post by: celtic on January 20, 2014, 02:02:00 AM
I have a feeling that sammy wants to stay, but his family don't, and that's why nothing has really happened.

Ill be disappointed if Ledley goes, he's constantly said he'd like to stay and sort a new contract for te last year or so, so I hope he doesn't change his mind. Hopefully he will see players like Ki and Hooper haven't done too great with shite teams, and playing for celtic is actually no that bad.

Pukki and balde are weird. I would love to see them given a chance for a few games. Nothing to lose, hopefully that will happen now stokes will be out and sammy is debating what he's gonna do.

You mention 5k rolls, thought about starting smaller and playing 1/1? I hear the Glasgow games are good. I live in England by the way, so haven't played there for a year or two, so don't know for myself.

Title: Re: One Time
Post by: shipitgood on January 21, 2014, 01:25:21 AM
Yeah would be good if Ledley were to stay.

Pukki and balde will get chances between now and the end of the season, but so far their goal record is pretty bad. Straight away they were getting pelters, but thought i'd give them a chance, it's just not happened so far, hopefully they can turn it around.

All the Alea games are minimum 1/2, think Gala's the same. I'll check out to see if there is any 50/1 games running at the mint casino.

Might give a few casino mtt's a go over the next few months.

A bit earlier I said I was going to do a HU Sit and Go challenge, after my 140th / 150th game, I decided there wasn't enough money in it to grind, not at the £5 levels.

Pretty much since then I've been playing mostly cash. The heater has continued, since my £100 plus losing day at 50nl (cooler/ tilt/ playing 2 tables = boredom) i'm up over £200 in the last few days, mostly from playing 10nl.

1st hand history of this blog! Love this hand (even though I lost)

This hand here, I know some people will think it's to loose pre, but i'm on the button!

When im check raised, it's against a tight player, he most likely has a set. I knew this! The plan was 2 ship the river, if I hut my flush and the board didn't pair. I don't think he can fold his set. He doesn't check raise flush draws, not that I've seen anyway, quite passive.  Given my read it's an easy fold on the river, but I needed to see it!

OTB I have  Qc 7c Stack= £65.85

It folds round to me I raise 3x to 30p. SB calls, bb folds. The SB has £17.26

Flop;  Tc 3c 5h, check, I bet 0.53 and am check raised to £1.30, I call, pot is £3.30.

Turn;  Ahrt   I check, villain bets £1.65 lol I call, pot is £6.60

River;  Ac, check, villain bets £4.95, I call! He shows pocket 10 s

Could have just bet / folded small.

Today was the swingiest day ever.

I started off terrible at it's worst I was down 6.5 buy in's, 2 in about the first 10 minutes!

Wasn't playing great and had a couple of coolers, lost QQ versus Jacks all in pre.

End of the session went really well, there were a couple of people throwing money away, always nice:)

Despite a bad start, I finished about 3 bi's up for the day.

It seems to happen a lot, that when I start playing I usually end up losing for the first while before turning it around.

Saturday and Sunday didn't play much at all, ended up down 1bi overall for both days.

Went to see The Wolf of Wall street on Saturday, it's a bit long, and a bit shit, but there is some really funny scenes in it so overall wasn't 2 bad lol

Poker wise, never really went into it but this is the plan for the next while...

I ended up withdrawing a lot of money, basically any time I won I withdrew money.

Was nice taking money out, but I was withdrawing every day pretty much, or every 2nd day atleast.

Right now i'm playing 10nl till im 50 bi's up, so far in the last week im up 21 bi's up. I'll get £100 rake back also this month, so roughly I've will have another 19 bi's to go.

Then i'll play 20nl, and once i'm up 50 75-bi's i'll look at playing 50nl.

If making withdrawels i'll keep it to once a week or a month.

Am looking at playing on other sites a bit more too. I'll need to get a HUD I guess, seen as everyone else is using them.

Any1 got good recommendations for sites with good rake back, say 30% and are quite decent to use?

Title: Re: One Time
Post by: shipitgood on January 29, 2014, 12:09:25 PM
Nothing much has happened the last few days. I played quite a bit yesterday, didn't run really well.

At one point I was down about 6 bi's.

After I was knocked out of the main last night played a bit more cash. I was sitting at a 10nl table, then a player joined so we are playing heads up.

10 hands in they open jammed for 100bb I have AQ, I thought for a while, was thinking about folding, then thought they can't be that strong. I called.

They had k 4 suited lol flop 98j, q on the turn, 10 on the river! They then left the table.

The player then went to 20nl, and done the same thing shoving every hand when they 1st sat down. They ran awesome and doubled up. They ended up at 100nl and doubled up again.

Evenetualy they finished at 300nl, where they left with their profit. They soon sat back down at 100/200nl where they were stacked, before going onto lose another heep of the money they had won.

At 20nl they called my river over bet jam, with trip 9's, I had a full boat. They were up over £400 to pretty much losing it all.

In total from 12-2 last night, I ended up getting about 5 bi's back, so still down on the day but only just. I felt like a real victory given how much I had been down.

I played the main last night aswell, its a £11 turbo, busted Aces versus 10's all in pre. 10 on the turn.

Copy and pasted from elsewhere:)

Story so far
I played 4nl for the longest time ever. Pretty much all my time on the site until Oct November last year. Then i started playing 10nl. From June/ July last year to November i made quite a lot of money playing poker to give me a sizeable bankroll (for the stakes i was playing), it was the plan to play 20nl from December, i had over 100bi's for 10nl. I hadn't much experience of 10nl, so thought i'd be better playing this for a bit before moving up 2 20nl.

During the summer of last year to November i had won quite a few £££ in MTT's which definatly helped bankroll.

About December time (and before) i had started to make withdrawels. I was making withdrawels pretty much every day. Or every 2nd day at worst. Basically i kept my roll at a certain level and withdrew any profit i made.

Eventually i decided i didn't need anywhere near the amount of money in my account and with drew down to £500, this was also after i had a stupid £100 losing day.

I've decided i', not going to withdraw for a while and build things up.

The future

I'm now well rolled for 20nl.

The plan is to make 80-100 bi's at this level, and at this point look at playing 50nl. x

Hu sit and go's have been a night mare since Sunday. Been on the wrong end of variance so much it's unreal. I've had my biggest losing streak ever playing these games.

Bad variance has resulted in me playing (some of) the games bad as well, to an extent.

Friends i know who play HU used to complain about downswings, good winning players. I didn't really believe it was possible to have such a bad run, but it is!

Anyway enough moaning about HU Sit and Gos lol

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm going to be playing 20 £11 MTT's on sky over the next month or so, mostly bounty hunters or the tuesday night main.

I'm getting "staked", so i don't have 100% in myself.

I know it's low buy in games, the reason is really just a bit of fun. It will also make me play my best the fact that other people are involved.

Target is cash in 50% of events, FT 3 or 4 times, and win 1. That is da plan lol

I'll keep my results updated here. Wish me luck!

Played another 2 £11 MTTs, last Friday and Tuesday's main (£11 bi's)

Didn't cash for anything in either of them.

Total games 7, Total Spend £77, winnings £51, Profit -£26.

Total cooler in the Friday night game to exit, and just never got going in the game yesterday. I've ran pretty bad in the MTT's so far, fingers crossed some MTT run good is on it's way! 13 games to go...

Title: Re: One Time
Post by: shipitgood on February 20, 2014, 01:49:46 AM
Since my post at the start of the month, things have changed slightly.

Sky did a rake race, which I took part in, ended up getting £75 for it. I was playing games just to get points, and to be honest never again! Playing for the sake of playing is about the worst thing I could have done. I wasn't enjoying it at all. I had 2days in the 1 week where I had £100 plus losing days.

I experienced my 1st ever downswing playing HU sit and gos. I had a losing streak of about 8-10 games pretty much in a row. Confidence was low and I guess that resulted in bad decision making. I had heard friends talking about downswings in HU games, I never really felt it was possible to lose so many games in a trot.

I lost quite a bit at 10nl as well on Friday night. I usually play 200bb deep, and in the space of 30 minutes was 7 bi's down. The 1st 2 were total coolers, one hand I flopped the nut flush, for the board to pair on the river, to give opponent a FH. Other big hand was flush over flush. These 2 hands in total were 4 bi's. I was constantly getting outdrawn and just generally running like shit.

After this there was further losses just down to tilt/ spew. At one point I was in a £150 hole, some losses came from 20nl too. I ended up getting a late rally, so only ended up down £50 on the day, which felt like a success. I said at the start of Feb I was going to mostly be playing 20nl, it's been a bit of both 10nl and 20nl.

I was glad when Friday and the promo were finished with. Would never do that again!

Saturday, I just wanted to chill out and play a couple of low stake MTT's, I ended up cashing in the 1st 1 and taking down the 2nd one. Really enjoyed it. The tournie I won it was only a £1 deepstack, 1st place was only £36 but was good fun. The FT was so sweet, ended up getting to HU 2-1 chip leader and it lasted all of 4 hands.

Since Saturday I've had a winning day every day this week. I've mostly been playing HU sit and go's with a bit of cash. I've won back pretty much what I lost last week during the rake race.

I started taking withdrawel's again. Originally it was the plan to just build up my bankroll to 2.5k and start playing 50nl. However, for the time being, i'm happy enough just to be taking withdrawels and keeping my balance at a certain level. If I could get a decent bink in a MTT that would really help move things along.

I was on pokerstars last night had a look at the high stakes games, I seen 1 player on every table KAnu7, or something like that, he was just sitting waiting for a table to get going. He had 10s of thousands of dollars over a load of tables. Amazing people actually can build up that much money from poker, would be nice to be in that position one day!

Also seen on Sky there was a player with 15k at a 1000nl table. I reckon that player has a diary on here.

An ultimate goal would be to get to a really good standard at poker. Not to the same extent as these 2 guys above, just decent enough to beat higher stake games!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I seen there's been a lot of chat recently about the decline of online poker. Joe Hachem started a bit of a debate when he brought this up in an interview last year.

Personally I think that at the types of level I play at it will never really be much of an issue, as by it's very nature people playing these levels will mostly be inexperienced or weaker players. So there is always going to be value there. I suppose to an extent this the same up to say 50nl.

At the higher levels tho, I do think it will just get harder and harder. With so many resources out there players that want to learn will be able to improve rapidly. As this number increases the profit at higher games will get squeezed more and more. Wonder what others think about this?

Forgot to say better get my boast in now while it's still there.

Got a wee silver star on sharkscope too, in the top 30 for profit from sit and go's for this year.

Had to get it in before it disappears lol

after all the rambling yesterday, for got to say was thinking about coming down to DTD for Fri til Sunday.

Looked into hotels but decided it wasn't really worth it, best rates I could find were about 50-60 quid a night.

Was really up for it, but been a bit rushed I decided against it.

I'l get to DTD at some point!

Yeah Vinod, he does really well.

Maybe one day lol

-------------------------------------------------------

One day a long long time away;

I played HU this morning against a really good player. We got chatting, ended up doing a sweat session tonight.

He mostly plays 20nl and is moving up to 50nl soon. Dutch guy he gets coaching, but talking through some of the hands, his knowledge was phenomenal.

Was shocked that i didn't use a HUD lol

What point am i trying to make? I know a lot less about poker than what i thought i did.

I recorded a session today for the first time ever. It was my 2nd HU session of the day. Just looked at it, i think i played ok, but not brilliant. I made a really stupid all in call with Ace 10, on a Ace high board, against this vilian, most vilians i would imagine, i'm never good there. That was about the worst hand of the session.

Basically, i'm not as good as i thought i was. That's all:)

Played the 12:30 £11 BH, Busted AK>AJ aipf, J on the flop, gg! 20 left, pot was for 4th chip lead. 1 Bounty, £5.63

Total games 9*, Total Spend £121, winnings £56.63, Profit -£64.37.

Don't know if there is any profit in these games, 1st place is only £100 odd pound plus, and it's really is just bingo.

Total games 10*, Total Spend £132, winnings £83.01, Profit -£49

16th tonight for 27.38

I have  Aspades 3s, folds round 2 me in SB. Blinds are 400/800, i have about 19k, BB has 9k.

Pretty sure this is a Jam?? I min raised, it would have been the same outcome anyway i'm sure.

Flop came Ace 3 x, i bet, call, turn a 6, set opponent all in, they have A6. Leaves me with 9-10k, next hand I jam over a min raise with 77s, Vilian calls with K 10, i lose the flip, which leaves me with 1.5 bigs lol

Not played much recently, had a bit of a downswing with HU hypers plus hardly any volume at cash.

Was a bit frustrated with the hypers but they are quite high variance. I've not done any crazy stuff in a while, like play to high for my bankroll which i'm pleased about.

Played a bit of cash over the last couple of days, it's went really well which was a bit of relief, just nice to get some winning days again!

If you have not seen this vid check it out! Funny as.

This is a graph this year from HU sit and go's had a bit of a downswing recently.

I stopped playing turbos, to concentrate on hypers, a lot more variance in the hypers. The recent downswing, i've still been playing reasonble well i think, just variance has been spoling the party!

Some one was really good and had a look at a HU video i made playing cash and has given me some great feedback. I watched it last night, couldn't believe how bad i was playing. I was playing way to passive in my opinion, which is different to my normal style which is really aggro at 6 max cash. The villian i was playing was really passive, espec post flop.

After watching the video last night, thought i'd play a bit of of HU Cash today, ended up playing 20nl HU on sky for 3 hours and was up about 3-4 bi's up, was really pleased with how i played and i ran pretty well too. It is hard at 20nl HU due to rake, but I think it's profitable in as much i get to play quite a lot of weak opponents. Don't suppose there's much point in playing really nitty players, winning a lot of smalls pots, as the rake just kills it.

This was my fave hand of the session,

Kh 4h, in the bb, We both have £25 at the start of the hand.

Button min raises, i call.

Flop;  4d 4s 5c

I check, i'm always going to check raise the flop, cause he likes calling down light

He bets 0.80, i raise to £2.75

He JAms!! I snap, he has  3h 9c

Turn  8s, river  6d, i win £49.36

At a bit of a cross-roads with poker. I made a post in the rail section and got some solid feedback.

I'm going to give it a go, and go with what Pleno suggested.

No more withdrawels   (for the time being)

The plan is to stop making withdrawels for the time being, build up my bankroll to give me 50 BI's for 50nl, i'll set a stop loss, so if i fall below a certain level i move down to rebuild.

I've always been quite nitty with BRM, too nitty lol

Between now and that point, i'll need to do some work on poker to improve a good bit.

A nice score in a MTT would speed the process along.

So short term goals at the moment are to build up a sufficient bankroll for 50nl cash, and also improve a lot at the same time.

Never really studied that much at poker outside of posting hands, getting feedback and discussing hands with others through Skype, or mesgs.

I've now regd with Deuces cracked, will give it a go, watch more videos and see if that helps.

Another short term goal is to get sharkscope up to £2k in profit.

So short term;

- build up  a decent bankroll for 50nl
- spend more time "studying"
-get sharkscope up to £2k

Ran terrible in the main tonight ended up about 300th/800, but had great fun playing the all-in sat's loads of overlay:)

I played a sat tonight, I had 7k, i'm the shortest stack, blinds were 600/1200, going up to 700/1400 (3 minute clock). 6 remain, 5 get a seat, and 6th gets some cash, but it's only just over double the buy in of the initial sat.

There is 4 fish at the table limping every pot. The other player does ok at MTT's, i thought he would fold most hands in the bb apart from a monster. If he folds he'll still have plenty of chips he has 13k. Chip stacks range from 11-16k.

I'm otb with K8 os, and jam. BB looks me up with AJ. AJ holds.

I think it's a mistake calling with AJ, if he loses he has 3 bigs. Honestly, i was shocked when he called worst thing was he typed in the chat box "nh", and i was like yes he's folding. Then he calls:|

I think my jams quite good, if i can get through the SB then really the BB shouldn't call.

If i fold, i have 4 hands till my stacks going to be obliterated.

I suppose i could have held on longer.

Let me know the new Title, & I'll sort it for you.

Just the once though - unlike "Next Door", we don't really encourage frequent Thread Title changes. You certainly can't change it "every week", sorry!

Good to see you are making decent profits, keep it up.

Not played that much in March, it's mostly been MTT's and satelites for some reason.

Not played much cash at all this week, I've just not been in the mood for it.

I played for an hour this after noon, ended up 1 buy in up, so it wasn't to bad.

Probably going to get a good session in tonight from about 11 onwards.

I played a Sat last night, it £7 quid for a main event seat tonight. It was really soft and there was overlay.

I mucked up a hand when I was 3rd in chips, 3 got  aseat, 6 players left, and the other 3 were quite short in chips.

Guy jams over a short stacks limp, I had JJ in the bb and called. Should have been quite an easy fold.

Not played much cash at all in the last week, I was up for a wee session last night. Started about midnight and didn't get finished till 7 am. It started out terrible, in the first 2 hours I was down about 3-4bi's, had quite a few coolers and had to fold a set once, when the board was really bad, guy 3 bet on a dangerous board, AQ, was all over his range, Or the other 2 cards for a straight, he was a really tight player and pot bet the river. No way my set of 10s was good there, so I had to fold, I hate folding sets haha:(  I called the turn thinking I was behind for the board to pair otr, would have maybe called a smaller value bet. From 4am onwards, there was no regs left but me and my friend, I went on a nice heater to finish the session 4 buy ins up. I don't normally post hands in here, but i'll fire a few up, if you want to comment please do!

aha the above post was a bit rambling lol

I was going to post up some hands, but after having a look there wasn't really many interesting ones. Two most interesting ones were when i made a nitty fold with 10s (mentioned above) and another 1 where i folded Aces to a pot sized bet, on a jjq,x,q board. Looks like a good fold at the time, but apparently the guy was steaming so Aces could easily have been good here.

Couldn't stomach playing much yesterday, but ended up playing after a few drinks, not a good idea haha I stopped after 20 mins and £30 quid down lol

Today didn't play much, just played 3 MTT's, the total BI's were only a tenner. Was just playing for a bit of fun.

I ended up coming 8th, in one of them so pays for my games tonight.

I've been thinking about it everyones talking about the state of online poker, strongly thinking about playing more live cash in the casino where the standard is pretty bad versus online play.

I'm going to try and play live at some point over the next week/ couple of weeks.

I wasn't going to post this hand, i don't really like it at all.

I guess most people will dislike the check on the flop, the reason i did it was to let the villian barrel turn and river.

Any feedback appreciated. Hating the river! It looked like a good a fold at the time, but he could easily have been bluffing here, the pot size bet does look a bit bluffy. And the way i've played it, it's a great card to bluff at.

I have £74, villian has £47.

In SB I have  Ac Aspades, i raise to 40p, he 3 bets 2 £1, i make it £4, i made it quite big cause he wasn't folding pre, he calls pot is £8.80

Flop;  Js Jd Qc, check, check, Turn  8s, villian bets 3/4 pot £6.60 i call.

River;  Qh, villian bets pot £22, i fold.

Had the hand shown on Sky last night.

The villian had AQ, so it turns out it was the right fold. So easy for him to have a queen here.

On a brick river i was going 2 raise, don't see him having many jacks here, that's not to say he can't have a Jack.

If he bets big on river (if blank) i prob just call, if he bets small i would raise, dunno what the best line would be on the river with a blank card.

Bit of a joke tonight on Sky, was playing a MTT which was cancelled due to technical difficulties.

Same thing happened last night as well, for a period of time. Not played any bigger buy in MTT in over a week so was looking forward to playing a few tonight.

It resulted in a chip count, plus any bounties you won including your own bounty. I'm going to include this game, but yeah a bit frustrating.

These things happen, but 2 nights in a row is pretty poor imo.

Total games 14*, Total Spend £198, winnings £221, Profit +23

*12 £11 MTTs, 2 £33 games.

2 2 go!

Tonight, lasted 15 mins in the main, made a terrible all in call with top 2 on a K10 9 board, he could only have the nuts! It was so obvious.

Played the 11:30 BH tonight and finished for £30 including bounties.

That's me finished my 20 games. Total games 16*, Total Spend £220, winnings £251, Profit +31

It started off pretty bad the first few games, despite FT the 2nd game. Definatly picked up in the last half of the games. It was the 1st time i had really made an effort to play £10 MTT's.

I know it's only 20 games and not a large sample size, but i would definatly say i am far better now at playing BH'ers now compared to when i started. I've picked up on a lot of mistakes i was making and have managed to cut a lot of them out, a big one would be you can't bluff most people in these games! Just a matter of getting the hands, and going for value value value.

I'm happy to have finished in profit and how i've played, certainly in the last half of the games. I've not played much the last couple of weeks, hardly played any cash at all this week apart from the weekend.

For the next few weeks, think i'll just concentrate on MTT's.

Not played much since the last time i posted.

I took down a small buy in tournie, got to the FT with 250k, 500k in play. 3 Handed i had increased my stack to 330k, 3 handed went on for ages it was against 2 tight players so they wern't 2 keen on getting their chips in the middle! Eventually took it down.

Thursday night I qualified for the main event through a sat for £7, plus £3 in another sat i didn't get anywhere in. So was in for £10 total. Unfortunatly i did he haw, the cards wern't showing much love. My exit hand was q8, on a 88xx board, all in on turn, villian had 85, 5 on the river, gg!

6 months ago i used to say to everyone i hated sats, things change, really like them now! Was due to the fact i couldn't play them.

Had my 1st proper cash session last night for the first time all week. It went really well i ran golden for a change and ended up 6 bi's up in just over 4 hours.

March has been a really good month profit wise, despite not putting that much volume in. My points (rakeback) is the lowest it's ever been in the last 6 months but still have managed to make as much if not more than last month.

Celtic championiiiiesss!

Just off to the game now to see Celtic pick up the league trophy:)

10 in a row...

Saturday was pretty bad.

Lost 5 buy ins at cash. Done the usual, down 2 bi's in 20 mins, got a bit worse, before it picked up abit, i was quitting all tables just over 2 buy ins down, ended up on a table with a drunk guy jamming every flop. Got it in with KQ, on a KJx board versus him and another shortstack (after he jammed my flop bet). They both had raggy Jacks, i'm well ahead. Case jack on the turn for a big pot. Reloaded same thing happened got it in good and he sucked out again. He then left the table!

Today i only really played a few sit and go's and MTT's. MTT's were a total disater.

I didn't have the hands, ran pretty bad, done abosultely nothing in any of them. Best run was busting 5 before the bubble.

It was a really frustrating night. Like with yesterday i lost a few buyin's at cash, which is just normal, i'll easily win it back the next time i play, or next few times. But MTT's are way more tilting. Not like you can just reload. Not felt like this in a while with poker, but was just one of those nights.

Just a bit annoyed just now tbh, but it's just variance.

Having a break tomorrow, will be back on tuesday, and hopefully running a lot better.

Promise no more moans for a while:D

Been a while since I've updated this!

Tried another couple of sites at the start of the month, can't seem to get used to other sites, have to say that I find Sky the best site to play on.

Probably just because it's where I started playing and am used to the games/ know most players on there.

So no more site jumping from me for a while!

It's been a really good week, i'm up about £500 so far this week. Had a deep run in the main tonight, unfortunately lost 10,10 >KQ to go out in 16th place. I won a Sat for the main on  Sat as well and just took the cash. Won a couple of bi's at cash too.

I''ll take more of that!

Going to play some of the UKOPs games next week as well.

This is the schedule (below). I'm going to swap 10 % with my mate, and prob sell or swap another 20% as well. Not quite sure what games i'm playing yet, but prob most of them barring the £110 games, unless I sat in.

I have enough bi's for 50nl now - 50 buy ins.

How do you view bankroll management? 50 buy in's enough? Or do you play with more/ less?

Fwiw, I think over the next while i'll try and introduce a couple of 50nl tables as well as lower buy in games, just to see how it goes.

I don't play poker for a living, I never will, it will only ever be a sideline.

Meant to say that in the above post.

Tonight was a bit frustrating never really got anything going, I was playing pretty well but the card's weren't the best :)

I was in a hole from the get go, then had a wee rally then I decided to get queens in against a 5 bet jam (300bb pot), of course it was aces! That set me back abit, things picked up again.

Finished the day down about 0.5 a buy in, which isn't bad considering the hole I was in, but it seems like the first Friday in a while where I've not had a really good winning night.

I didn't play any 50nl tonight, but I did ply some 30nl and 40nl, the tables were pretty nitty and there wasn't much action.

As with my above post, would be really interested to hear others views on BRM, and what they think is reasonable to play at a certain level.

I'm back to the whole, "the next level must be so difficult" and "it will all be amazing players" routine.

Don't know why, just seems to happen. Maybe because it's something knew and outside my comfort zone.

I've had this "diary" running for a while now, from the first post and warm welcome from Frankie boy.

Had a couple of diaries on sky for a long while before this one, but felt it would be better to post somewhere of the Sky site.

Have to say I think blonde poker is awesome, really good community on here and some great players.

The 1st diary on sky the longest time ago was when I played 4nl, and didn't have much by way of a bankroll. When the first diary was started it was with the view to improve at poker, some days I won and some days I lost, but was really inconsistent, and knew that people constantly won so I must be doing something wrong. Going back to that 1st diary on Sky, it defo helped my game improve a lot to beat 4nl. The second incarnation of the diary started along the lines of "100 MTTs to make a profit", this was about last May /June. At that time I was minus 400 on sharkscope for MTT's and sit and go's. Those 100 games went really well, during that time my MTT game improved no end and had some excellent feedback froma  whole variety of players on sky. After those 100 games I continued using the post as a diary, then about Octob, Nov last year, I wanted to put my views down on here.

From last May /June it has been a massive journey. In that time I have turned my sharkscope into a profit, withdrawn a decent amount of money from my account,  moved from playing 4nl to 20nl, and am now on the verge of playing 50nl, which I am now bankrolled for.

I know a lot of people don't read these, diaries, but have to say it's always been really motivational, spurred me on and kept me on track along the way.

Have really enjoyed writing in here, but i'm going to rest this diary for the time being and may return to it at some point in the future.

Thanks for reading, good luck at the tables, and look forward to meeting some of the DTD regs when I get down to DTD at some point.

I've dabbled playing 50nl on Sky recently, just 2 tabling and game selecting at times when the games are good. There's often 2 or more very weak players per table who stand out like a sore thumb as do the regs who are equally easy to recognise. May just be a consequence of playing less tables, but I'ld be surprised if it wasn't profitable for you.

Hey Simon,

Good stuff mate, hope it's going well for you.

Played 50nl on Sat night, lost with 55, on a 52268 board, opponent had quad 2s lol

Made a  schoolboy error, thought i was rolled (50 bis) for 50nl, it was 30 bi's!

Need to play 20nl for a bit longer...

Tbf, 30 bi's is probably fine 2 tabling 50nl, table selecting, but losing against qaud 2s, has kinda put me of 50nl for the time being lol

All the best at the tables

Quick update

May to date has been phenomenal.

Managed to bink a  MTT last week for just over £1300. Cash has went like a dream too, in the last 10 days, i've only had 1 losing day, which was only 1 buy in. The rest of the time i was up a good amount of buy ins every day.

Well rolled for 50nl now, i'm going to keep playing my usual games atleast till the end of May, if not June, then I can see about whether i want to move up or not.

Ideally, feel it would be better to have 100 bi's before getting stuck into 50nl.

May and June were good months, made 4 figures both months, May was especially good, winning the tues main for £1370 really helped for it being a bumper month! June was just over 1k.

Last month I ended up going for priority on Sky, you have to get 10k poker points to get 20% rakeback.

Sometimes it was difficult, decent weather plus I was forcing myself to play at times. Most of the volume came from cash, hardly played any MTT's last month.

This month 2 date, I have about 400 poker points, volume has been really low, mostly I've been playing HU Sit and Go's. Really enjoying it again, just playing because I want to play as opposed to playing to make x target.

Played a live MTT at the weekend too, getting a wee bit of practice before the UKPC. It was going really well, ultimately got knocked out just before the FT lost a 80/20, then lost a 70/30 to leave me with 9k with blinds at 3k/6k lol

Had a funny conversation with my Mum yesterday about poker. She was saying "still gambling?"  doesn't matter what you say it will only ever be gambling lol

UKPC time fast approaching!

Can't wait, gonna do wins:)

What's the cash games like down at DTD at 50/1 1/1?

Hopefully like a casino game back home!

Games at dtd I believe start at 1/1 now, where they offer short (100bb max) and deep (250bb max) games, before 1/2 +. Also offer DC and PLO.

Fwiw I always used to think poker wasn't gambling, before I realised I was only kidding myself. Poker is absolutely gambling, whereby we are directly risking money and hoping for a favourable outcome. The fact that the word itself has developed some pretty negative connotations isn't all that relevant, everyone who plays poker is by definition gambling. Poker is not entirely a skill game, at least not in the short time. Indeed, live poker will never be an entirely skill based game, because you just can't play enough in one lifetime to even out variance. It's perfectly possible to downswing for tens of thousands of tournaments, for example, and a live player just won't be able to cover this sort of sample. So, your mum's right :p

Hey Rexas,

What's the standard generally like at DTD at 100/200nl?

If you are there this week, see you there!

Nah, I'm in coventry this week for the goliath. And have you played much live cash before? The standard deep 1/1 tables have a few good regs in them, the shallow 1/1 rarely has anyone good sat in it, and the 1/2 games will likely play pretty big, be quite aggressive, and have some pretty good players sat in. Dtd cash tends to be of a higher standard than most other live environments at the same level, but live cash is generally of a pretty low standard anyway. That being said, it is sky week, so there will be a high volume of players that aren't regs at dtd, so the standard of the games will be affected by that.

Not played much live cash at all.

Was looking back at the start of this blog.

Can't believe this was started almost 1 year ago, and what a year it's been!

It's pretty funny, I was reading Frankie's "who are you" posts lol

At the UKPC I was playing at a table, close to Frankie's table, it was early doors, and all you heard was someone talking quite animatedly, it was Frankie.

Roughly it was something along the lines of a lady had only called Frankie's bet with a FH, where she could have had his full stack. The chat continued for quite sometime afterwards, quite a character.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

When I started the thread a year ago I was playing 10nl and was looking to move up to 20nl.

Also about this time me and a friend were organising a charity event on Sky - playing 24 hours non stop to raise money for Cancer Research on 4nl. It was about Nov/ December when we did this. It was a great success, with all the Sky reg's getting behind it - in the end we raised over £1000 for the charity.

It was really tough just staying awake/ focussed/ trying to maintain some level of concentration. It was really nice at the finish up the rail was going crazy as we completed the last 30 minutes of the challenge.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I started playing 20nl at the end of last year, and it has been a brilliant year. I've never had a losing month since I started playing "properly" - about April of last year. Sharkscope is in profit by about £2700.

My main game tho is defo cash imo. I've put sometime into cash over the last month or so, I also had someone looking at my game, which has helped immensely.

At some point between now and Christmas I hope to spend a bit more time looking at my MTT game/ areas where I can improve upon.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It was brilliant going to the UKPC had a really good time.

Played a bit silly in the fourth level when I was the chip leader at the table. I had been told before not to do anything silly early doors!

Sometimes I can play a bit crazy, and this was one of them...

I 5 bet  5s  8s, from the BB versus the button.

The flop was King high with 2 hearts and I checked, pretty terrible I know! Turn was another heart. I bet 1/3rdish pot. Opponent calls. River was a 4th heart and also a King. I set the guy all in with 8 high lol he tanked for a while before calling with AK no heart.

He was like "I was ready to go up Goliath at Sheffield" haha

Turns out he was not a player that liked folding and made a brilliant call - but then again my line was just so FOS.

That left me with 20k couple of rounds later, I got it in with AKsuited, versus the same opponents 77, flop game his 3 to a flush, turn gave him a flush and I was drawing dead. GG UKPC.

I also played my largest ever losing cash hand at the cash tables at 1/1.

I had Kc Kx, think I was the SB,  TommyD in early position opens up to 6 (might have been a straddle) I made it £23/4, BB made it £60odds.

I tanked for a while, I almost folded. I've never folded Kings pre in a cash game in my life, but I was so close to it!

I know people will be like say what, fold kings pre lol But this is one of the rare examples I think it could be a good fold. Is his range so nutted that he can only have AA here? The player was tight/ passive in the extreme. He seldom played a pot.

I don't think he 4 bets QQ or AK in this spot.

Alarm bells were ringing. I couldn't do it, I called the 4 bet. The flop came down 3 clubs (no ace). We both had approx. £250 at the start of the hand.

I checked, he over bet jammed the flop like 2 x pot maybe more. I knew if he jammed I was calling, so I snap called.

When he did that I was pretty sure he had Aces with no club, I don't for 2 seconds imagine he does that with AcecAcex.

He refused to run it twice, and the board bricked.

-------------------------------------------------------

Sam Trickett directly after he bubbled the UKPC played a £10 Sit and Go with some of the Sky Reg's.

Sam is a total legend and a gentleman - couldn't have met a nicer guy.

Was great fun, and I finished 3rd:)

Also had my first Nando's experience. Ended up going over with a sky player who has been very successful at the game. Sitting next to us was two well known EPT players. Was crazy some of the money they talked about for a week of poker!

Crushed a couple of regs at tenpin bowling and went to see The Inbetweeners 2 down there also.

WAs a quality film, funniest scene has to be Simon on the flume, haha

Over all was a great experience, and was brilliant meeting a lot of the people I talk to online but hadn't actually met before.

----------------------------------------------------------

Was meant to be a "where I am now in poker" post lol has ended up a bit long so i'll leave that for another time.

Just read the start of Rexas's blog there, was interesting hearing peoples views on poker as gambling.

Last week was talking with some people that knew I had been down at notts for the UKPC - non poker players, and someone chimed in how poker is pure gambling and degenerate and is just the road to ruin lol Now I know why I hardly ever talk about poker to non poker players.

Didn't matter what you said, his mind was set in stone!

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Just before the start of September I've started a challenge to make £5k by Christmas. Last couple of days of August/ Early September saw my best week at cash ever, I was up about 25 buys in at cash. Then I hut the skids and lost 10 buy ins in 2 days lol

Ended up playing a lot the 1st couple of weeks, after my heater it was really swingy. I've not played much the last 10 days or so, it's been pretty infrequent.

Late on tonight ran pretty good while not playing brilliant, luckily I ended up about 5 buys in up for the day.

I'll need to check tomorrow, but i'm prob not far off £1k profit for the month when rake back is paid (about 110-120ish)

Off the 5k, was hoping to make about 2k on Sharkscope from MTT's HU Sit and Go's, but so far this month volume has been 95% cash. For Septmeber I might even be slightly down on Sharkscope.

Hoping to get a lot more tournies in next month.

I shudder when I think of the sort of guy I was back then :p Just coming off the back of a big bink, thought I was the absolute nuts. Had to lose the lot before I could start to improve :p

Re: Poker as Gambling, bit of an interesting one, we'll just call it gambling with an edge:)

Hopefully can get some thin brags in here before Christmas time!

Speaking of which, have my gym membership and have been really lazy with it the last few months, will need to get back into it against, gym/ swim atleast 3 times a week, pretty sure I always play better after some exercise!

Total Profit for Sep, £1006.99, of which I have withdrawn £450. Also due to get £126.70 rake back in October from 6335 poker points. 22.67% of way to target!

I'm still playing 20nl.

Have played some 50nl but lol volume.

I'm just a recreational player, still enjoy it which is the important thing.

Although playing lot's of cash repeatedly can be a grind.

Pros of 20nl are;

Great liquidity, quite easy to beat.

Biggest negative is the rake as a % of the overall pot.

Pros of playing 50nl

Less rake as a %.

Negatives, Not as great liquidity, player pool to a high % is regs and a lot of the regs are really tight.

These types of games aren't as much fun and there is a lot less action.

Are you the fella from Motherwell on all my tables? Thoghts on other "regs" in the games? Personally think Th1nkerman is the most solid.

EDIT: Just read page 2 you're LARSON7, please avoid my left. Cheers.

He's a very good player, really aggro.

One of the best regs that plays that level.

Hey Elke,

Welcome to blonde, it's a great site!

Start of September was pretty poor, it's one of my worst runs at poker that I've ever experienced, had a fair few coolers mixed in with some bad play.

Friday and Saturday were awesome which pretty much takes care of the hole I was in.

So strange with poker when you are winning you are invincible and when you are losing you just question everything lol

I've withdrawn over 50% of my bankroll from Sky to play some live cash.

I have 7 buy in's for 200nl.

First time I played was last weekend. Was totally card dead, but ended up eeking out a profit of £60 odd pound.

It was a bit frustrating in as much as with a good run of cards I would of totally cleaned up.

5 players at the tables were playing with <50 bb stacks and this one person kept donating their £40 and insta rebought lol

7 Buy in's isn't a massive amount, but for the type of game I was in last week think it's plenty.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

I don't play a massive amount of MTT's but this was a hand approaching the bubble from a game earlier on today, UTG who 3xes has been opening up all sort of raggy aces and junk and it's a BH, suppose it's just a cooler, really don't think I can get away from this one.

We are in the SB with pocket 10s, blinds are 150/300, we have 13k, BB has 14k, UTG +1 has 5.5k

UTG+1 3xes to 900, folds to us, we jam, SB calls, UTG_+1 folds.

He had aces.

Lol, why we 3 bet jamming 40bbs :p

lol maybe not a cooler then.

Didn't expect UTG to ever fold and expected to be in great shape against him.

Prob should 3 bet to about 2.1k, only thing is cause it's a BH BB could possibly come along and a lot of the time UTG will just call - despite his stack size and have < a pot sized bet on the flop.

In saying all that, if I 3 bet to 2-2.1k can probably get away from it.

Sing when you are winning

Today's been amazing, best day of the month so far, almost got enough for 50% of the buy in for GPT Edinburgh.

Included in that was £60 from 50nl (euros) on Unibet. The "regs" were tight bad lol

Offering 50% for the event at no mark up, details can be found here:

http://blondepoker.com/forum/index.php?topic=64398.0

Few hands from tonight had the most amazing player on the table.

All hands are from a 200bb table, we've already double up.

Hand 1;

Ks Qs  (£92 Starting Stack) UTG+1 raise to 60p.

Button (Maniac sitting with £32ish ) Calls. SB Calls (£30ish). BB Folds, 3 players to the flop (£2).

Flop;
  Kc Qh  2h

We bet £1.50, Maniac Min Clicks it Back, SB Calls, We Called (£11). I really hate this call against this player, think I should defo be raising up here.

Turn  Qc, SB Checks, we lead for £5.50, Maniac Min Clicks it back, SB folds, We lol min raise, they jam and show

 Qd 5h  (Total pot £68.42)

Hand 2, this was so annoying! I was defo calling the maniac - they were potting any pair - then guy calls behind.

 Tc  Td

Button min raises we are in the SB, we 3 bet to £2.50, maniac calls, button calls, I should have went bigger.

Flop;   Jc 3h  5c

I checked, Maniac pots it £7.80, Button Calls I folded:(

Turn  Th

Both players got it in on Turn, Maniac had j 3 o/s, button  had KJ

Hand 3;

We have Ace 10 o/s BB

Maniac Limps, other player limps, we make it £1.80

Maniac back raises to £6.10 total. (they have £33 at the start of the hand) We call.

Flop is 10 3 5,

We check and they jam we snap and they have 88, turn and river are bricks.

Played the main tonight on Sky

It started out really poor, from 9 O'clock was card dead folded for literally almost 40mins straight. Was down to starting stack 2k, hut a good run managed to spin it up to 30k.

At one point was 3/70 then the wheels came off the cart.

Just before the bubble lost AK > to shorties 77.

3 hands later lose 99 Button Versus the same player in the BB, he has aces.

Bit later... sitting with 18k at 600/1200

I open to 2.4k from early position with 10 10, player on Tilt who has jammed the last few hands ina  row after losing a big pot jams - That's why I min raised to let them jam. Other player rejams

I made the most ridiculous call ever. But I was just bleh gamble.

Other player had QQ jammy every hand player had AK. GG me

Won about £130 but frustrated with my exit hand, which was an easy fold I still would have had 13/14 bigs.

Finished in mid 20s.

That was my wee moany post of the year haha

Just annoying exiting tournies in silly spots, the other frustrating one is coming 2nd in a tournie when you were so close to winning lol

I've not done any sweat sessions in a while, if anyone fancies doing some ping me a message and i'll ad you on Skype.

Hand from the main.

We are in the SB with  Jh Js, 11347, blinds are 150/300. BB has us covered.

We min raise and are called (1200)

Flop;  4s 9h 5d

Bet 900, call (3000)

Turn;  Qs

Check, bet 1500, we call (6000)

River 4h

Check Check

Plan was, bet flop, check call, or if check check, value bet river.

Any thoughts on the hand appreciated!

I'd bet smaller on such a dry flop. Think we should bet turn too, then on I'd c/c (on this particular) river.

As played guess we just gotta c/c riv now

Tonight I fired up the Puna Canta final to rail a friend.

For anyone that doesn't know, it was a £770 Satelite to win a package, accommodation, flights and entry into a tournie over in the Dominican replublic. Total cost of package £3500.

There were only 7 seats, there was a surplus due to the amount of entries/ sat qualifiers.

Instead of awarding a cash prize to 8th, the surplus was divided across the the top 7.

I was really gutted for my friend who bubbled it. What a massive bubble.

She is one of the nicest and most genuine person you could ever meet.

Really is gutting. Real shame there was no £ prize for the bubble (given the surplus).

It was truly a weird dynamic on the bubble.

2tables, 4 and 4.
1st table was pass the parcel

2nd table 1 player had every1 cover atleast x 2, so he could just open jam every hand. There were the 2 shortsakcs, getting blinded down to 3/2 BB, and of course no1 could call his all ins, jeapordising their seat.

Post by: shipitgood on October 20, 2014, 01:57:10 AM
Was pretty sick OTB for the seat, the Big Stack in the SB was giving the BB (shortest stack) a walk everytime just to extend and abuse the bubble even more.

Got to do some painting da walls:| Fun times.

Was in Asda this afternoon, didn't have any bads with me:O

They have started charging atleast 5p a bag, I went for a fancy pants 6p bag - Baller.

Quite a good idea imo, will stop a lot of the waste / litter from excess bags.

Probably should just play 50nl i'm well bankrolled for it.

Would be less rake and the chance to make more money.

Standard is probably slightly better, but not vastly.

Would also improve my game.

The last few posts were a bit of spew lol

This is the story of where things are at...

I'm a recreational player, as in I don't play poker for a living.

Some might think recreational player = losing player, but to me the vast majority of players 95% are recreational, with a small % making a full time living from the game.

Despite being a "recreational" player, I do really well in the games I play.

I've made a few posts about playing 50nl £ and "moving up", the reality is I don't need to stick on one level.

Liquidity at 50nl isn't amazing, yesterday when I was on there was only 3/4 tables running. At those tables it was mostly (really tight) regulars, there was hardly any action.

Where as there is usually decentish action at 20nl, there is still (mostly) nit regs, but there is always loads of tables running, and it's really easy to get games started.

All-in-all I will be playing across 20-50nl. Don't think there's much point in sticking to just the one level.

Pretty confident I can beat 50nl, beyond that 100nl you really are getting in to decentish stakes (to me)

I would imagine at that level that's where the skill element is significantly better than the lower stakes. Like the regs will mostly be full time, for the most part, and will have a far greater knowledge and skill edge.

Was really good last night, couple of regulars made the top three of the £500 game which was amazing.

Roguecell came 3rd.

Craigcu12 finishing 2nd.

It was an amazing result for both.

I had been speaking to Craig in  the afternoon he had won some money, so was going to play 5 x £100 mains during UKOPs. Was really surprised to see him in the £500 game, ended up railing him. Think he must have satted into it.

It truly was an amazing result beating very stiff competition to finish 2nd and 3rd.

Last 2 days in October til Thursday of this week were amazing, had my biggest ever winning week (outside of winning the Tues Main)

Sky had double points on from the 1st -9th of October, decided i'd go for it to get the 10k points for priority.

So far I've got 8.5k so will easily make it. It was pretty much playing last weekend this weekend, and evenings.

Kudos to DTM for the amount of volume he can put in. No idea how he does it consistently lol

The Thurs to Thurs was phenomenal. It started that Thursday night I was up about £200. Every day there after I just couldn't lose.

I was playing some decent poker and running amazing.

Wheels came off the cart Friday and Saturday lol ironically usually my best days. Within 10 minutes of sitting down on Friday I was down £60 I was playing terribly, and just couldn't stop.

I ploughed on and lots of hours later - the hole got a lot bigger - but some how I managed to finish up only down about £60 which I guess was a result given how bad I was playing.

Saturday - afternoon session - got previous days losses back and more. Saturday night I went onto throw this all away and more ended up down about 8 buy in's down.

To be honest I was just playing terrible and the way I was playing was never going to win, just donate. I was playing for the sake of playing.

Poker is such a mind fuck. You think I've done well, I just need to sit down and i'll win.

On Saturday night, I wasn't even playing my D game it was more like my Z game lol

Good thing is it's over now, and rest of the month when i'm playing it'll be because I want to play not have to play.

At the end of the month with rake back will get just over £300 - more than my losses over Friday and Sat. Today I had a small win of £40 (which should have been a lot more, but bad play seriously reduced it again).

Bit frustrating the fact I played so badly on Fri and Sat. But overall, over that 10 day period I still won just under what i'd normally win in a month, so can't complain.

Just over a year this has blog has been running now.

Been fun! I'm really delighted at how poker's been going and in particular my cash game.

Next year i'm going concentrate more on MTT's.

The blog has served it's purpose and really glad I started it on here, but it has now run it's course.

A big thanks to the many on Blonde that have helped me over the last year.
