Recently started playing liveaments mainly around Manchester and occasionally in Leeds
In the 3 I've cashed, a deal has been done every time.
I've never come out of a deal with in a negative chip ev situation, but I have always felt very under pressure to chop.
Will a deal be done pretty much every time in weekly tournaments?
Should I feel under pressure to chop or is it "socially acceptable" to play on?
I've never been a part of a deal where the floor was allowed to facilitate. Should I worry about getting screwed over at the cashier?

Yeah, there can be a lot of pressure, and the sort of folk who play small freezeouts are the sort of people who love deals, but if you don't want to do one tell them to get lost. I've done it before. There are people who will tell you about deal karma but Tighty banned them they can be safely ignored.
90% of people will do a deal, but 90% of people are losing money over the long run so don't feel you have to do what everyone else wants.
And yes, I'd worry about getting grimmed at the cashier. In fact you can weave that into your refusal speech if you don't want to tell people straight.

I play a lot of these and not bragging but do make a few final tables. People want to deal because usually when these tournaments go down to the FT the average is prob 7-8bb's and the CL will only have 20-25 and people say they don't want to "flip" for lots of money. Rarely do I deal and the times I've said I want to play on I wasn't met with a lot of resistance, I think you should make it clear that you don't intend to deal once the FT starts not after you've just tripled and now have everyone crushed not saying you did this but just in case Normally when the FT starts and floor guy mentions deals I just say very politely "I hope nobody minds but I'd like to try and win this, you're more than welcome to deal when I bust" I think if you're friendly in your demeanour nobody should take offence. Regarding the cashier side, never had any problems

In weekly tournaments where a lot of the regulars are local - social players rather then pros - you'll be asked to chop fairly often I would image as the amounts of money on the line will be fairly large amounts for them to effectively 'gamble'. However you play the game for yourself therefore you should have your own mind, if you don't want to deal then don't deal. At the end of the day if the lack of deal is going to have a negative effect on their game I.e. they play scared then I'd be refusing deals every time.

Thanks for comments guys
One other factor I forgot to mention was pressure from the rail
Last night one of the regs was railing his buddie and was desp for his mate to deal.
I guess it goes without saying that you shouldn't bow to the pressure of others if you don't want.
Play at 235 in manchester mainly, not cash though
Chopped their sunday bounty last night, hence this post

lov e235 tourneys
Rarely do deals unless its with one of the regs there that I like.
sometimes I do deals to try and speed up the game cos I CBA to play any more longer. and I like to jam every hand after the deal is done
cash at 235 is very good

Thanks for all the feedback.
tourneys at 235 are really good, hope they increase the range and continue to get bigger fields.
Yeah from what I've heard/seen the cash their looks good. It's 10 handed though isn't it?

if anyone mentions deals in local comps, I just say no thanks Im not interested. They will onbviously all hate you, but if these doesnt bother you then dont worry.
Alternatively, if you are chip lead, just say "ill take first place you guys can discuss the rest". This only needs to work occasionally!

They've cancelled the Thursday one in favour of running more PLO cash that night.
Annoying because it was the biggest buy in they did

Regarding feeling the pressure to make deals I've certainly made some friends in the past with telling them to get lost. The deal I hate the most is when (as an example) top 9 get paid and there is a final of 10 and people say "Let's take £200 off the top to give to 10th". Of course I am probably playing with mongrels as it's a £200fo and they will all fold incorrectly to make the money.
