Title: DTD Monthly Deepstack September 2010
Post by: TightEnd on September 04, 2010, 11:19:33 AM
Hello and Welcome back to DTD for the latest renewal of the DTD Monthly Deepstack, this time updated by Myself and Sharplea.

Last month's event was a corker. Won by Daniel "Kinboshi" Phillips and set alight by the play of Andrienna "dreenie" Nutt.

Will this month's be similar? Well not in one respect because, priorities all wrong, Mr Phillips is in Nevada but the Monthly Deepstack, now the pre-eminent monthly on the tournament calendar in my opinion, always throws up a story or two and Sharplea and I will bring those to you over the next 48 hours.

Play begins at 3pm, and around or about 300 runners are expected to play.

If you would like us to follow a friend or family member, please ask on here, and join us later on for the action.....

To get the essential stuff out of the way before I get busy later

DTD pay for these updates, and they wouldn't be possible without them and we're incredibly grateful for DTD's support

Any support of the DTD Online cardroom via blonde Poker (see the banners on the forum) would be greatly appreciated to not only keep these updates going but also to allow us to do GUKPTs and the like, and then investing further in the site as and when we can.

You can do support for example by playing MTTs in the current blonde League....http://blondepoker.com/forum/index.php?topic=49397.0

Added value of two DTD Deepstack/£200 seats in that, again provided by DTD

or playing some events in the €60,000 Gadget giveaway in September http://www.dtdpoker.com/60k-gadget-giveaway.php

or just merely contributing some of your online play our way.

Thanks in advance

Unfortunately, I'll have to make do with playing the $300 deepstack at the Venetian instead this month ;)

wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii

Made it, which was looking rather doubtful when I hit the A51 at 11:30am (planned arrival in Notts, 1pm) and got stuck behind a tractor. Which refused to pull over. 5 miles, 3 near crashes and 3 bottles of water later, Joobs manages to get past it and we head for the A500. Well, until we found the road blocked due to a 3-car head on collision.

Diversions later, we manage to make it to our hotel for 2pm, so after the obligatory 3 s's (only one was successful - try and guess which), I've finally arrived here just in time for the start. So, shoutouts, requests, interviews with the flotsam...all will be here. Enjoy the next 2 days as we try to get every big hand (and miss quite a few of them!)

Simon Trumper has just made a major announcement.

He said that the £300 has been running now for 31 months, and 3000 unique players have played the event ever since its inception. Because of this, DTD have now decided that they are going to...

RUN THE DTD £300 DEEPSTACK TWICE A MONTH

The tournament will now run on the 1st and 3rd weekend of every month!

Lewis Harper is the first man out this month.

I arrived after the Th 4c 3s flop had been dealt, with Sinem Melin betting 650. Short-stacked Harper then shoved for about 2700, and Melin made the call holding 3c 4s, a sneaky bottom two pair ahead against Harper's Qs Qc. The turn and river came 8s and Js, giving Melin the pot and sending Harper to the rail 10 minutes after the tournament started.

In early Das action, he raised UTG to 150 and got half the table calling, only for BB Lawrence Townsend to bump it up to 750. Das was the only caller and the two saw a flop of Ts 8h Th. Townsend fired out 200 into the pot of 2100 and Das called. The turn was the 2c and Townsend again fired 600. Das tanked but eventually passed.

Matt Russell is out.

He found Kings on a Qs 9h 3s board and got it all in against TommyC, who had 8s 9s. The turn was the Ks, giving Matt a sweat as Tommy had the flush...the river was a blank and Matt is now headed to Nandos as Tommy chips up.

There's a "debate" going on over at table 22, and it's all related to Wales vs England and who's better after the APAT Team Championships last week. Which Wales somehow won. And England came last.

Whilst the "debate" rages, Chris Alexander flopped the proverbial canine dangly-bits holding Ks 5s on a 4s 8s Aspades flop. He bet flop and turn, only to see the board be completed by Ad 8h. His opponent, the brilliantly named Anon, then bet 1600 on the river which lead Mr Alexander to complain loudly and fold face up.

I will be keeping a close eye on this table

27   1   Carl Eglintine
27   2   Kyriacos Dionysiou
27   3   Daniel Morgan
27   4   Brian Goddard
27   5   Lawrence Townsend
27   6   Brijesh Das
27   7   Anthony Poole
27   8   Gareth Mitchell
27   9   Sabah Aris

Combustible line up including Greek Jack, DMorgan, Britsh Gas and a gentleman called Tony Poole. Mr Poole is a builder in the Home Counties.

Poker players in Luton have devised a system. One spots him in a cash game at Luton and sends a text, this gets sent on until they all simultaneously converge on the last space in the car Park and run tongues lolling towards the waiting list.

The man has game. and Money.

Lee Nayler was happy when he found himself holding 5c 5s on a 5d Jh Kc flop. Unfortunately for Lee however, his opponent (Tariq Arees) had Ks Kh! Unsurprisingly, they both got it all in and Lee missed his one-outer.

Dean Morris has a seat. Sorry Celtic!

Over on Table Mr Alien, John Stritch raised to 350 from UTG. He got one caller in Colburn Tomlin, and it went heads up to the flop of 5c 7h Kh. 625 from Mr Stritch and Mr Tomlin called. The turn came 2c and John fired 2000. This was enough, as Colburn folded - showing the Kc.

Craig Wakeham found himself heads up with Harry Punter after betting 1500 on the turn of a Ks Th 7h 2s board. The river was 8s and Wakeham checked. Punter punted out 1500 and Wakeham made the crying call to be shown Jh 9h for the monster draw that hit. Craig flashed Aspades Ac as they went into the muck.

He found Kings on a Qs 9h 3s board and got it all in against TommyC, who had 8s 9s. The turn was the Ks, giving Matt a sweat as Tommy had the flush...the river was a blank and Matt is now headed to Nandos as Tommy chips up.

The tournament will now run on the 1st and 3rd weekend of every month!

when will this take place? does this mean the 200 will no longer exsist?

"I played like Dog****" was his opening gambit

I pressed on and asked for more.....

"Two limpers and I made it 525 with  Kc Qc" he siad

"I was down to 4800 and on tilt"

"The original limper makes it 1250 and I call, bad call"

"flop  Tc Jd 4d, he checks and I bet 1650, He check-raises me all in and I call the last 2000 off"

"He shows  Ahrt Ad and it comes diamond diamond to give him the nuts"

There's a "debate" going on over at table 22, and it's all related to Wales vs England and who's better after the APAT Team Championships last week. Which Wales somehow won. And England came last.

Whilst the "debate" rages, Chris Alexander flopped the proverbial canine dangly-bits holding Ks 5s on a 4s 8s Aspades flop. He bet flop and turn, only to see the board be completed by Ad 8h. His opponent, the brilliantly named Anon, then bet 1600 on the river which lead Mr Alexander to complain loudly and fold face up.

Chris Alexander is now out and not very happy about it. He got it all in against Anon again with 10-10 vs  K-Q on a K-K-3 flop. No help on the turn and river saw Chris head to the rail.

Quick chat with Simon...

The new tournament starts this month. It will be guaranteed at £40,000 due to the massive competition in London (EPT/WSOPE et al). DTD are going to look at the turnout of this month, but current plans are probably to guarantee both at £50,000 for a total of £100,000 guaranteed per month in £300's alone, before £150's etc are accounted on top.

Alan "Lucky" McBride, fresh back from a month in South America playing $100 rebuys in lima

Won the £75 at Luton last night, spinning up here

Second hand in had KK v AA. Opponent didn't re-raise pre flop so he, according to a text I received "got away lightly on an Ace high flop, so feel like I am freerolling now!"

To be fair Alan's whole life is toasty, this is the least of it...

He's just taken down a nice pot. 6 limpers, including Liam and James Keys, all checked a Kh Kc 5c flop. Liam then bet 500 on the 6c turn after it was checked to him, getting one caller in Jason Elliott. The river was the 5d and Liam bet 1500, enough to make Jason fold.

Julian Thew just lost a 8k pot after calling 2500 on the river of a 6d 3h 3s 4d Js board. Jason Barton showed 5d 3d to scoop.

Tim Wright just doubled up after shoving all in on a J-2-Q flop. His opponent, Ian Wright, had A-J and called, only to be shown K-K. No help on the 10 turn or 8 river and Tim Wright is still in.

Over on Table Alien Sr, Drainy just had to fold on a 8c Ks Th flop after betting 1500 when checked to, only to see Jimmy Cairns check-raise to 4000. Maybe Drainy will read this and tell the world what he had, because he looked rather annoyed at having to fold...

Andy O'Flaherty wasn't happy when he turned a flush holding 2h 4h on a Th 8h 7d Qh board, only to see the Jh on the river and Vincent Price move all in. Andy mucked and claimed "I would've called against a strong table but on this table I know I can get 'em back!"

I can hear Ade Bayo from here - he's down by the cash desk and I'm in the top right hand corner. Says it all, really, easily the loudest man in the room. It's working for him again...

Players are now on a 25 minute break.

25 minute breaks today as a few dealers were no-shows...short of dealers then and having to ensure everyone gets proper breaks with 350+ players in the building tournaments/cash

Yet you're still in, Mr Drainy!

As is Dean Morris, who now has about 25k. I asked him "get all those outplaying the flotsam down the streets?" He simply said "Yeah, easy when you get Aces innit". Tommy C on the same table has taken a massive hit - so I'm naturally assuming he was the unlucky player.

Joobs has just arrived and was talking to me as I joined table 25. She commented that I was teaching her how to update, and Jim Reid & Andy Brennan then tell me to watch as they play a hand as bad as can be played. Jim then min raises to 400 and Brennan passes, but Steve Nash and the blinds call. The flop comes down 7-7-Q and it's checked to Jim who fires 800. All fold to laughter as Jim shows the 7s. Afterwards, one of the players says "I'd have called but when the second 7 came down you did this" and then proceeded to do some sort of weird motion with their face!

Dean Morris sidles over, shoulders slumped

"I have just played a monster hand with Tommy C" he reports

"Tommy motherf***ingc has been min raising and folding

He min raises again and gets a call from the small blind. I re-raise

He dwells and 4 bets. Doesn't look happy.

I 5-bet shove him, and he has a hand for the first time with Kings

My K6hh doesn't stand up too well against that, and I do 55,000 chips to him true donk style. Slight misread"

Tommy Cunningham appears to the beneficiary of astounding largesse in this competition. I suppose his aggressive style gets him some gifts along the way

I join the latest hand with him betting 2,200 on a flop of

 5d 5h 9d

and receiving a call on the button from Neil Wallace

On a  4d turn Tommy bets 4,500 and Mr Wallace pushes for 10,000 with about as much fold equity as a retired Origami expert who has lost the use of his hands

Tommy insta calls with  Ahrt 9h

Wallace shows the donktastic  9c 2d, having called a pre-flop raise

Well, at least he has a re-draw to diamonds

river  Qs

and Tommy Cunningham is our chip leader with 80,000

I thought it might have just happened as I went over to get Neil Harvey's chip count. Ade had knocked out Niklas Astedt when he had K-9 on a 9-9-2-10-2 board, with Niklas having A-A. Neil said to me "You might wanna get that rubdown, he (Ade) turned to the other guy and said "nice call" when the other guy (Niklas) had called all in on the river!" As Neil was telling me this, Niklas literally stormed out of the club...

There is a huge cry from table Wernick and I arrive to see Robert Clarke with  5h 5d and Joseph Kershaw with  3c 4c

all in on a flop of  8c 2c 5s

the result is shown below, as Kershaw hits his huge draw, and Clarke the neccessary pair up on the river to knock Kershaw out

Two OUTSTANDING interviews and one INCRED lookalike. I can but bow down sir.

To be honest Graham I let you all down a bit on the Ade one, wasn't sure of my facts enough on the specific instances. Live and learn

Meh, it was like a combo of mine and Bad Beat's incidents. Both rancid efforts from Andy Abrahams' manager.

Really wouldn't make a difference if you got it right or wrong imo. If you'd hit him with my case he'd have prob said 'I was wrong there, but that's poker'. If you'd cited Neil's case you have got the same response.

Still, ten minutes of gripping interviewing. Gotta love Ade.

James Keys just got KO'd by James Williams, after Keys shoved preflop for 15k over Jason Elliott's 1600 raise (second time in 3 hands) with 8s 9s and found Williams in the blinds with Ad Ks. Eliott got out of the way and Keys failed to bink on the 5h 4d 2h Tc 6s board.

LOVING the interview with Ade and yes Tighty he did own you a bit, but I can't wait for round 2 'cos I know you are going to knock him out.

chip counts for Brian Scott and Richard Blacklock, ty

Blacklock is up to 30k after I found him all in on a 7h 4d 8d Qc Jh board with 20k in the pot already and Julian Thew in the tank. It would have cost Thewy all his chips to call but he decided, rather unhappily, to pass.

Brian Scott has also just doubled up with Ahrt Qc against the Kc Jd of Kevin Pearce. It all went in on a Qd 6d Td flop, and Brian faded all Kevin's outs on the Jh turn and Tc river.

On a  Jh 2s 4d flop Adebayo bets and Harvey on the button calls, raised pot pre-flop

check check on the  Jh turn

Adebayo checks. Harvey ponders

Adebayo "Look, I might have it, I might have missed, if you are going to do something just hurry up and do it"

Harvey takes his IPod headphones out, chews gum and says to Adebayo "Nah, I've got this" and flips  9s 9d to win as Adebayo mucks

Nigel Ventre just followed him through the door as well, his 8-8 no match for Dave Metcalf's Q-J.

RUN THE DTD £300 DEEPSTACK TWICE A MONTH

The tournament will now run on the 1st and 3rd weekend of every month!

Tommy C just lost a 45k pot by doubling up Dave Metcalf when the latter had Ac 2c on a Qc 8c Aspades flop and pushed. Tommy called with what he probably thought was the drawtastic 9c Tc only to find he had 3 outs. None hit and Tommy is back to about 50k.

Hoping to get an interview with Rob Yong before the end of the night on the 2nd Monthly £300

Currently he is in a £5-10 NLHE Cash game £1k min sit down with Sam Trickett and, amongst others, Luton's Tony Poole.

I'm half tempted to live update that with a Round with Tighty!

If they let u pls do!!!

Kevin Pearce just doubled through Marcus Karlsson with J-J winning the race against Marcus' A-Q on a 3-5-4-3-8 board. It all went in preflop.

Jalal Rasoul just doubled through when his A-K was good on a 8-J-10-7-10 board.

Simon Deadman took a nice pot from Jason Herbert by shoving over the top of Herbert's 7k bet on a 7-9-7-7 board. herbert folded and Deadman cheekily flipped A-10.

I am not allowed to photograph it or report it sadly. and it's roped off, presumably to stop Tony leaving too easily.

Two OUTSTANDING interviews and one INCRED lookalike. I can but bow down sir.

To be honest Graham I let you all down a bit on the Ade one, wasn't sure of my facts enough on the specific instances. Live and learn

LOVING the interview with Ade and yes Tighty he did own you a bit, but I can't wait for round 2 'cos I know you are going to knock him out.

[not sure why I have suddenly started thinking of boxing, something about the loving myself quotes reminded me of many boxers who use this style]

Yeah, there was definitely a touch of early Chris Eubank about him

Tom Cunningham and Peter Wigglesworth play out a sizeable pot

Tom limps for 1,200 in mid position is called in three spots and Wigglesworth in the big blind checks

flop  7s 8s 4c is checked round

turn  5s

checked to Tom he bets 2,400 called by small blind and Wigglesworth

River   9s, which makes for an interesting board

check, check and Tom bets 4,000. The small blind calls and Wigglesworth check raises to 16,000

Tom thinks and thinks, presumably with a big spade, and calls

Small blind gets out the the way and Wigglesworth flips  Qd 6s for turned straight and rivered straight flush.

Brian Scott is out, he got it all in preflop holding Ks Kc against Ben Vinson's Th Tc, but the 9s 7c Ts 9d 7d was enough to send Brian to the rail.

2 hands later on the same table, Jason Herbert raised to 3.6k from the button, only to find Daren Braddick move all in from the BB, covering Jason. Jason called and flipped Aspades 9s to race against Daren's 8s 8c. The board ran out 6h 7d Qc Th 9c to give Daren the straight and send Jason to the rail.

Down to 7 tables already, still got 2 levels and 20 minutes left tonight!

Jamie Moult raises to 4200 in mid position

Nadim Sarwar flat calls

Mad Turk in the cut off shoves for 23,000

Back to Moult and he just knows Turk is at it, he just knows, but passes

Sarwar considers. Turk probably thinks that now he is past the original raiser he's home and hosed

He begins the speech play

"Tell me what you have and I tell you whether to call or not. Total truth. We're from the same village aren't we? Tell me, tell me, tell me"

This carries on for another ninety seconds and eventually Sarwar calls for about two-thirds of his stack with  Ahrt Qs

Turk turns over  8d 6c with aplomb exclaiming "I HAVE LIVE CARDS!!" excitedly

Moult looks over and tells me "I knew I should have re-shoved with  9d Td"

board  6s 7c Kd

Turk is screeching

turn  6d

"It doesn't matter now baby, give it to me"

river  Jd

and he doubles up plus some

Moult looks sicker than a Sheep on its way to the Kebab shop

Turk feels like smiling now....Variance is a fickle mistress....

Julian Mann out. He raised to 6k UTG+1 and got one caller in Jonathan Titcombe. They saw a J-8-3 flop and Julian bet 8k. Jonathan quickly raised to cover Julian and they got it all in.

Julian - A-K

Jonathan - 10-10

The board finished off 3-4 to send Julian home.

Simon Deadman is running well again. he seems to every month, a prolific chip getter...more the issue seems to be converting these stacks he gets...he can blow them from anywhere...

Anyway Daniel Bowden pushes with  Ad 7s from a 10x bb stack, Deadman finds  Js Jh on the button, isolates

and a  Jc Kd 2h flop seals the deal

Deadman...

Tariq Arees just knocked out Steve Wright with K-K vs Q-8 all in preflop. Board ran out 9-K-6-6-7 to send Steve home in the last level of the day.

Mark Attridge just crippled TommyC when they got it all in on a Qs 6c 4s flop. Attridge had Ahrt 6h and Tommy had Aspades 2s, which missed on the Ad and 9c turn and river. Tommy has about 25k left I think...

That's a wrap here for Day 1 of the September DTD Deepstack. 36 players remain after what has been a day of carnage and interviews!

Notable players returning for Day 2 include Alan McBride, Lawrence Gosney and Mickey Wernick. Representing the young guns we have Mark Attridge, Simon Deadman and Jonathan Titcombe. Anybody (I'm looking at Trigg here) fancy setting what they think the bar is on the age of the winner?

Play restarts tomorrow at 2.45pm as usual. Please come and join myself and Tighty (with the odd appearance from Joobs and Cottonbud) as we bring you the conclusion of this month's DTD Deepstack.

Tighty's insisted on staying to post the chip counts, so from me and Joobs, it's goodnight and see you all in 12hrs time!

TommyC had managed to get it up to 45k-ish but he is now on fumes after he lost an 80k pot against Rana Gurnam, Tommy turning a full house with 2c 2h on a Ks 4h Kd 2d Kh board, only for Rana to have Kc 4c for the flopped full house and rivered quads!

FOUR KINGS IT IS!!!

Welcome back to DTD

I love DTD when it is quiet, I can get loads done. Strangely enough I mentioned this to Nick Whiten who hates it when it is quiet. Go figure!

Anyway, play begins at 2.45pm...until then.......

Some information about our Day 2 field

Jonathan Titcombe. From Swindon. "5toneface" online, staked by James Williams. 15th is his best result in a DTD Deepstack

Christopher Brion Unknown to me, unknown to results databases. We'll change that today.

Bodo Wagner 4th in a recent £300 at the GUKPT Vic Summer Series

Simon Deadman . LAG maniac, one of the best chip-getters you can find. Yet to convert a massive stack into a top result in these but its coming....

Lawrence Gosney. WSOP Bracelet winner from Leeds. Famously loose style, very active, in a lot of pots, calls light a lot. A monster with chips, if he can keep them

Chris Roadknight No, I don't know either, sorry

Mark Attridge
No database form to speak of, but often features in updates on this event with big chip stacks. Another one with all to prove today

Martin lawton 25th is his best result in this but has form across the country. Won 2008 Xmas Cracker event at Luton and lots of fessie results at Southend

Kevin Pearce. Kevin is what Duran Duran would look like if they stayed up all night playing poker, working as a Golf Pro during the day. Finalist in this two months ago

That's the top ten chip leaders coming back today....

some of the rest...

Vincent Price. No not the Horror actor but young lad who shipped the £500 Walsall Summer Series main event for £19k two years ago

Rana Gurnam
Experienced and successful tournamnet pro from Cardiff. Three five figure scores in the UK in the last three years

Micky Wernick. Again, Micky goes deep. Prolific grinder with a hugely successful long term record. Many ups, many downs. but always there or thereabouts

Sean Quinn. 2nd Day 2 in a row for the Irishman from Swindon

Peter Wigglesworth
Winner of this earlier in the year in the "deal of the century". Becoming a regular at events across the country, and much imporved record in 2010

Alan McBride
. Lucky from Luton. Steady and solid player, great 2009 including GUKPT final, poor 2010 but back to form with a big 2nd at the Vic recently

Paul Gardener.
Swampy from the North East. A successful fixture on the circuit for many years

Yucel Eminoglou
. The Mad Turk from Walsall. Mad, turkish. Sometimes a delight, depending how the mood takes him.

Anon. Often represented at these deepstacks but has only once made a final table Which is just as well for head-scratching updaters afraid of annoying him and his relationship with the CSA

Jim Moult is out.

Steve Wright not out :) That was guy to my left with 8 8 vs k k, am in 18th position with about 67k

First exit of day 2 is the unlucky Anon, who saw Chris Roadknight raise to 5200 UTG+1. Anon made it 14200 and Roadknight called. They saw a flop of 7h 2c 6d and Roadknight open-shoved. Anon quickly called and flipped a dominating Qh Qs. Roadknight put his head in his hands in despair as he could only flip 9s 9d, and with the Jh peeling off the turn, Roadknight had 2 outs to win on the river. It duly came, the 9c was the hammer blow to Anon who quietly tapped the table and departed in 36th place, and we're one closer to the money.

Mickey Wernick is out. He saw Chris Brion raise from EP, and looked down to find Ahrt Ks, enough to 3-bet. Brion flat called and they saw a Kd 6d 2d flop. It all went in and Wernick was drawing dead as Brion had the massive Ad 9d.

Sean Quinn on the button makes it 6,000

Attridge 3 bets the small blind to 17,000

Quinn folds showing the  Ad

James Green shoves

Andrew Papageorgiou tank folds

Down to 33. James Green shoved preflop with Aspades 5s and was called by Andrew Papageorgiou, who had Kc Qc. Andrew hit the Jc 3d Qh flop hard, leaving James 3 outs. None of them materialised, the board running out 7s 9s to send James home just short of the money in 34th.

Peter Wigglesworth gone.

He'd got really short after calling a few preflop raises and having to lay down, and ended up shoving Ahrt 8s from EP, only to see Chris Brion move all in behind him holding As Jd.

No help for the Luton reg on the Qh 5d 6s 4c Td board (suits not entirely factual, I got there as the river was being dealt) and he was headed for the rail just shy of the cash.

Dwayne Quinn moves all-in UTG for his remaining 60,000

Gosney makes the call from the button.

We're off to the races as its Quinn's  Ad  Kd  against Gosney's  9h 9s

The board runs out

 8h  2h  2d  9s  Jc

and we lose Swindon's Dwaye Quinn as Gosney adds to his stack.

Simon Cawley is gone in 30th.

He open shoved short (31k) from the hijack and Kevin Pearce in the SB called.

Cawley: A dominated Qh Jc

Pearce: Aspades Qc

The board ran out a completely boring 5c 6s 3d 5h Kd to send Cawley to the rail 4 short of the money.

Found a spot Blind on blind all folded round to me on the SB A8??? No brainer! shove! and yes chip leader on the BB finds AJ this game can be cruel...ask Mickey Wernick....Im sure that's not the worst bad beat he has seen....I limped into the pot with Q10 spades but had to fold to a raise and reraise he actually made it 22k preflop after a 6k raise from Chris, not a great call from the A9 but hey sometimes you run good some times the poker Gods wish to humble you!

Round 1 between Gosney and Mad Turk goes to Gosney after he limp-called a 15k raise from Turk preflop with 4-4, then checkraised all in on a A-A-8 flop. Mad Turk ended up folding K-K.

Sam Maddison doubled up to 25k when shoving K-J utg+1 and getting a caller in BB Tariq Arees, who called blind only to find he had a completely dominated K-10.

Title: Re: DTD Monthly Deepstack September 2010

Brion makes it 10,000

Rana Gurnam calls

flop  Jd 7h 2c

Brion 10,000, called

Turn  Qh

15,000 Brion, called

river  Ks

Brion snap bets 25,000, Rana folds with not too many behind

Brion is unloading clips hand after hand here, lots of aggression

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gosney is speech-playing "anyone who raises my blind I am calling"

Titcombe raises utg, Gosney defends as promised, it gets checked down and Gosney shows 5-2 off and wins with a pair of fives.

True to his word, then

Chip count for roadknight and deadman please?

Just an FYI, Mark Attridge is a £1/2 regular at DTD, only normally plays the bigger comps, usually succumbing to the allure of the cash game waiting list calls :P

Martin Lawton, 83,000. Looking like the Rock of Gibraltar with sideburns and a cap. I assume he's card dead though.

Deadman is short-stacked and complaining about speed of hands/number of hands on his table

Title: Re: DTD Monthly Deepstack September 2010
Post by: KarmaDope on September 05, 2010, 04:14:26 PM
Ray Ryder is gone in 26th. He shoved UTG+1 for 26k holding 9-9, but found Lawrence Gosney calling on the button with K-10. Mad Turk in the BB looked like he was going to call as well, but decided to pass and when the hands were shown, was not happy!

The board ran out Q-J-3-A-Q which saw Lawrence hit Broadway and send Ryder to the rail £450 richer.

Card dead for two levels and haven't played a single hand apart from my BB twice.
Dwindled to c 33,000 now at the break, but only 22 left now, so in for a minor cash (unless I can get lucky!).

U played with Simon Tighty? He's far from LAG- very solid but very good with the odd huge move in him but certainly not lag

that being said, he now has Gosney, Titcombe and Turk raising into him.....so he won't be first to open too often, and I reckon he'll have a tighter style as a result

Lawrence Gosney is running over his table. Then again, he does have the chips to do so!

Most recent hand, he snap-called a Mark Attridge raise on the button and Bodo Wagner came along in the BB. They all saw a 7h 3c 9d flop and it was checked to Gosney, who bet 15k. Wagner called and Attridge folded. The turn was the 3h and Wagner checked again. Gosney fired 35k and that was enough for Wagner to tank-fold. Gosney wasn't done playing mind games though, casually flipping 4h 2d for 4 high!

Good luck to Simon Deadman! Def due one. Quality updates too.

Mr Hicks, you are a bok sir!

Lawrence Gosney raised to 11k UTG, and Simon shoved for 72.7k total. Lawrence called pretty quickly and Simon was dominated.

Lawrence: 9-9

Simon: 3-3

The board ran out a three-less 5-K-10-J-A to send Simon home in 19th just short of the money jump.

Meanwhile on the quieter table.....

Tariq Arees limped UTG, Chris Roadknight made it 20k and Arees called. Flop came Tc 2c 3c and Arees checked, Roadknight all in, Arees folded.

Wu made it 13.5k from the cutoff, Mad Turk shoved the SB, Wu folded.

That's the sum of the action on that table in the last half hour. They're just passing chips to each other.

25 minute break at the end of this level (in 11 minutes). I think we can forget getting out of here early...

14 left. Tariq Arees went in 15th after getting it all in with J-10hh against Kevin Pearce's 8-8 on a 4-5-7hh board and missing.

Mad Turk is down to dust after he called a 16k raise from Chris Brion preflop, check-called 17k on the 4-J-7 flop, check-called 20k on the 4 turn and they both checked the river. Brion had 8-8 which was good.

Great updates as standard for Blonde.

Having no horse this month running I'd like to See Lawrence Gosney take this down.
Bumped into him at MGM as I was heading for the lifts at 1am.
We went for a Beer and I finally hit the Sack @  6am Battered. He went to Bellagio for some cash. :respect:

Gave me some advise which got me out of a hole playing cash later in the week @ MGM.

Also a bit of luck to Quinn due to his brother Dwayne's Vegas gig. Top bloke is he.

Wagner limped UTG for 8k and McBride limped the BTN. Attridge made up from the SB and Gosney made it 38k from the BB. Wagner called and everyone else passed.

The flop came down Ts Qd 2s and both players checked.

The turn was the Jh and Gosney checked. Wagner bet 45k and Gosney called.

The river was the 8c and both players checked, which is where it got interesting. Wagner flipped Th Td for a set of tens and Gosney just sat there with a rueful smile on his face. The dealer then pushed the pot towards Wagner and killed the board. Gosney's cards were still behind the "line". As this happened, TD Richard came over to do the chip race and Lawrence immediately asked what would happen if he declared a winning hand, as the board had been scooped by the dealer and Wagner was stacking the pot. Richard ruled that as the dealer had not shuffled, the pot was still live and if Gosney was able to show a winning hand, then the pot would be rebuilt and sent Gosney's way. Lawrence then slowly turned over the Kc and said that any Ace or any 9 the pot was his, Richard confirmed this. A laugh, and the Tc was flipped. Relief on Wagner's face, who thought the pot was over because the dealer had scooped the board!

We're down to 8.

A short-stacked Rana Gurnam moved all in over the top of a Chris Brion raise, and Brion was priced in to call which he did.

Brion: Qc Jc

Gurnam: Aspades Qh

The flop was a nice 8d 7h 6d, but the Js on the turn was a hammer blow to Rana, who missed the 8h river and leaves us in 9th place, taking home £1,623.

Chris Brion is our new chip leader.

An innocuous looking flop of 8c 5c 4s saw Brion, Gosney and Jonathan Titcombe all with cards. Gosney bet 27k and Titcombe called. Brion raised to 100k and Gosney moved all in! Titcombe passed as Brion snap called, as you do with the nuts - 7c 6s. Lawrence had 5h 4h and missed on the Jh Td turn and river.

Brion had 400k after the flop so that pot was worth about 900k and Brion is a massive chip leader!

A few confrontations, a couple of split pots but not much movement in the chip topography until

Short Stacked Kev Pearce pushes utg for 120,000, 10xbb

Titcombe looks him up on the button with A-J off

Pearce declares he has only seen one card, the Ace of spades

sheepishly reveals the 4 of clubs with it

but, after a

3-5-Q-4-8 board he doubles through to 250,000 plus

Shortstacks now McBride, Wu

Comfortable Pearce, Garrett, Titcombe, Wagner

Biggies Gosney, Brion

Alan McBink yet to play a hand at the final

The board ran out 8h 4d 4s 9h 5c meaning Wu spiked his three outer to go up to 150k in chips.

Still 8 handed, Wu back in it after raising pre, called by Garrett, betting the A high flop and pushing the turn uncalled

Generally the short stacks are showing commendable patience, and the bigger stacks are winning and losing amongst themselves in equal measure

Lawrence ftw

Lawrence is a real character.

Quite the most acerbic sense of humour since I don't know when

I am watching the final table behind Wagner, who has an interestingly unconventional habit of limping into two thirds of pots. Gosney then usually raises

The action comes back to Wagner and Lawrence leans over and asks me "tell me what's he's got pal. Will help me out"

I tell him that I haven't seen and Lawrence gives me a stare like a Leeds United fan after Leicester City have hit a habitual last minute winner against them

He holds the glare for 90 seconds or so, then breaks into a huge grin, just as I am wondering if I am about to be lamped.

Fun times updating in 2010. Always watch your back

Title: Re: DTD Monthly Deepstack September 2010

and in this current break Lawrnce sidles over to update corner and says

"Now who's been writing shite about me on that blonde Poker?"

Adam stammers, then bolts under the desk

I say "well you are a character Lawrence, lots to talk about because of your speechplay"

"OK then, just to say, I am never on tilt and I am the King of Yorkshire"

(OK so I made the King of Yorkshire bit up)

Fav Lawrence quote was at the FT of this event in march 09.

A deal was being discussed but the offer wasn't good enough in his eyes. When he turned it down he said, "They must have chocolate for bollox and straw for brains, now deal the fn cards."

chip counts

Twit T-Wu 153000

McBink 246500

Garrett 555000

Titcombe 461000 (Gosney said "he can definitely play")

Brion 623000

Wagner 376000

Pearce 230000

Gosney 250000

Lawrence tells me he had to lay down AK/AQ/77 to big post flop action before the break, mainly from the German and Brion, and has done a lot of chips

Wu just doubled up again.

He limped preflop UTG+1 and Wagner made up the SB. Kevin Pearce checked the BB and they saw a 2c Kd 7h flop. All 3 checked and then suddenly, Wagner open-shoved the 7s turn!

Pearce passed and Wu snapped. As you do when you have 7c 7d for quads. Wagner had 8h 2s and was drawing rather dead...

Brion raises to 42000

Wagner calls in the cut off

Gosney calls in the small blind

3 handed to a  Tc Kd 3s

Gosney open shoves for over 200,000

Brion passes

Wagner calls very quickly

Gosney  Kc Jc

Wagner  Ts Th

no help on the turn and river and we lose Lawrence Gosney in 8th winning £2,028

7 is now 6 unfortunately, as Alan "Lucky" McBride is no longer with us.

Folded to Alan in the cutoff, he open shoved a shortstack of 160k, but found Jonathan Titcombe re-shoving behind him. Titcombe easily had Alan covered, and was also ahead, holding Ahrt Qh to Alan's Js 8h.

Alan was ahead after the flop of 5d 4d 8c, but the turn and river were killer Ad Aspades to give Jonathan trips and send Alan back to Luton £2,840 richer.

Wu raises pre, Wagner calls in the big blind

Wagner check calls two streets of a

 5d 4c 3h 9d board

He open shoves the  Qh river

Wu, with 86,000 left....makes the call with  Ts Th

which is good against  4d Ad

and Wu wins a 400,000 pot

No mention of any deals. The Swindon Massive - railing Jonathan Titcombe - are amusing themselves trying to work out if that actually is Bernie Ecclestone on the rail...

As they do this, Brion raises to 60k (standard right now, except for Titcombe who is making it 50k when he raises) and Wagner 3-bet to 152k. Brion called and they saw a 7h Js Ad flop. Both checked, and Brion checked the Jc turn to Wagner who bet 150k. Brion moved in for not much more and Wagner was priced into call.

Wagner: Kh Kd

Brion Ahrt Js

River, to rub it in, was the Aspades and Brion doubled up.

They just took the figures worked out by DTD!

Jin Ze Wu - £10,783

Greg Garrett - £20,295

Chris Brion - £17,323

Bodo Wagner - £9,128

Which means that this month's winner of the DTD Deepstack is Greg Garrett!

One funny story from the deal, Bodo Wagner is saying "I won't be happy with any less than £6,000"...took 3 people to explain to him that when they work out the numbers, they give everybody the next prize money, in this case 4th place (£6,492) and he seemed genuinely shocked that he was guaranteed that!

More bizarre dealing. The short stacks should be attempting to push for more money here. The 4th place guy is only getting 3k more than he was guaranteed anyway but is missing the chance for potentially 20k more.

Think its a shame a deal was done...........

The payout will usually guarantee one though, unless you get someone who values the win more than a pay-day (eg Gosney, if he had made it that far)

Here you had an inexperienced player at this level in Wagner, a youngster in Wu and two recreational players in Brion and Garrett

Looking at a slice of £57,000 out of the £85,000 prize pool

the DTD standard payout structure

http://www.dusktilldawnpoker.com/tournamentpayout.php

puts 70% in the top 4 spots....its too top heavy for most people not to deal

I agree that Wagner could have got more, but he didn't have a mindset of even thinking that way

+ 1

We have this discussion every month (and soon twice a month)

1   -   £26,374  - £20,295
2   -   £15,419 - £17,323
3   -   £9,251 - £10,783
4   -   £6,492  - £9,128

It always seems that the big stack gets the best of it as they are also handed the "title" as well. Don't forget if the Big stack had a disaster and went out 4th (however unlikely) he'd potentially lose £20k and £13.5k from the guaranteed deal. They have the most to lose not the shorties.

Short stack actually got £2,636 more than if he had been knocked out in 4th anyway. Where an extra £17,246 was possible or £19,882 if the deal was refused. He gets 7.5/1 on his £2,636 if he gambles. Also he only needs to ladder up 1 place if they play on and he's guaranteed more than the deal.

If I was him I would not settle for less than £12k. If not agreed he may as well just shove in blind every hand and see what happens. At the blind levels they were at, it would only have to go un-called for a few hands for him to have significantly more chips.
