Big day for 3G today as he finds out if he is in the Ryder cup team as a wild card pick. Bit of a kick in the ******** to Harrington if he misses out to a Belgian upstart. Not sure 3G would get picked in the foursomes either as he can be erratic.

Watched the Moto GP yesterday. It was one of the best sports events I have seen in years. 2 bikes way ahead of the rest with never more than .4 of a second between them. On the last lap Lorenzo overtook Pedrosa early on , only for Pedrosa to re-overtake on the 2nd to last corner. There was also outstanding commentary from the 2 analysts. It reminded me of Barry Sheene racing against Kenny Roberts in the 80's.

Has to be 3G and Poulter, really. Can't see Padraig getting a spot this year. Incredible strength in depth in Europe this year.

When you said that you had a decent bet on Dr Noh it did concern me.

That should never concern you. We are all grown ups, using our own money. If we are daft, we'll lose it, it's that simple.

I may have worded that badly, or you may have assumed wrongly.

For the record, I thought the bet was so solid that it was worth investing £100. It really DID look like a £100-er to me.

Now, "Fred" money is my money. Ultimately, it is all the same thing.

So I had £20 for Fred, as you requested/recommended, & then another £80 on my own "off-thread" sheet. If it had lost - & it nearly did - I would blame nobody but myself.

I assume EVERYONE on the thread "picks & chooses" what they want to bet for themself. We know that from feedback after someone tips a good winner.

Me? I do it all the time. If a Fred bet is accepted, I'm on anyway, but I pick & choose VERY selectively what Bets I think are good, & then bet them off-thread accordingly.

Mere set up a spreadsheet for my "off thread" betting, & I keep it up to date. It'd come across wrong if I told you what the profit is, but it is MUCH higher than the official "Fred" one, simply because I pick & choose with great care what I feel is worth punting. Most, but not all of it, is based on "Fred" tips. Same as everyone else does I guess. It's a judgement thing. And a luck thing. Wink

You have no need to worry on that score, hector, we are all accountable only to ourselves. If I do the lot - & I have done in the past, more than once - I'll not blame anyone.

I sort of get the impression that Padraig, wonderful golfer that he is, has lost his "hunger". Which cannot be said of either Poults or 3G.

Paul Lawrie was interviewed yesterday, after crushing the Gleneagles thing, & spoke of his incredible passion & desire to be part of the Ryder Cup Team. I think he'll do us proud.

Just to conclude the hector reply.....

To Mr Karabiner, who I sense may be a karma disbeliever. I had my largest ever bet this weekend on Rory to beat Tiger over 72 holes. With Rory in the clubhouse on -1, Tiger was on the 10th at -5. There followed two 6's and a few more bogeys to land the spoils in amazing fashion. If only the karma gods had worked on Bubba Watson then I too may have become a true believer !

Oh my, you ARE on fire!

Long may it last.

I'm not sure why hector should consider me to be a karma sceptic.

He obviously is not aware of my hippy past.

Peace and love man.

Day off in the Vuelta, a rest day, although all the riders will still do a 2 or 3 hour training run.

Wednesday is the individual time trial. The stage is nearly 40 km with a 3 category climb. Froome will start out favourite. He'll expect to take out time from Rodriguez, maybe up to 3 minutes.

However, with the toughest mountain stages yet to come & our man looking to be the strongest climber in the race it will still be game on.

So approaching half way, with four main GC contenders.

Contador is showing his lack of racing. He has not found the sharp turn of speed in the mountains yet.

Froome has shown signs of weakness, particularly yesterday, head bowed & looking drained crossing the line.

Rodriguez as hoped for, has shown his strength in the mountains.

Valverde also strong in the mountains. Without his crash earlier, he'd be a closer threat.

Stages 14 to 17 are all mountain stages. The final battles will take place here.

Top class racing all round.

I love Hectors tips and analysis. Please don't be swayed into tipping the shorter prices because of the pressure of letting people down who may be backing your tips. Everyone is a big boy and make their own decisions. This is a great Fred and the fact Tikay enforces the "no sorries/ after timing" rule enables people to go with the more left field recommendations that are my absolute favourites.

Harrington's hope of getting a captain's pick ended when Olazabal was made captain.

I think that leaving Harrington out is essential. He isn't very popular with a lot of players on tour,  so this would have an adverse effect on the team. And if he plays like he did at the K Club he won't be missed

How come he's not popular with others? Does he not socialise or is it something worse?

One interesting point about the Ryder Cup team is we could have been better off if Colsaerts had managed to qualify outright this weekend and Kaymer had fallen out of the qualifying spots as his game is in pieces at the moment. I half think by not playing this week that he might have been hoping to fall out of the team, if that had happened he would prob have had no chance of a wild card pick and Harrington would have been the next logical pick, if Ollie was prepared to overlook their bad relationship/history.

So tho I am no fan of Harrington in stroke play events these days I think the team would have been stronger with him in and Kaymer out unless Kaymer can suddenly break out of his self inflicted slump which seems unlikely.
