I thought they had to notify you of prosecution within 6 months.

So did I - evidently, it would appear not.

You called a magistrate mi'lud, no wonder they threw the book at you.
In fact, it was a female magistrate. I'm not entirely sure I'm cut out for advocacy Ralph.
You recovered from your Croft Quarry hike?
I didn't do the full Croft Quarry tour which involves returning up an even steeper climb on the way back than the outward one which is plenty steep enough for me, but I managed to persuade Tom to take the slightly softer option of a somewhat easier home leg.
I was well knackered when we got back to the car, and the tea and cakes were most welcome afterwards chez Red, I reckon I'll sleep well tonight.

May I suggest
pepipoo.com
for the red light thing? Lots of info on there, and if you post all the details on their forum, you'll get some useful information. For speed cameras, they have to send a Notice of Intended Prosecution (NIP) within 14 days. This is NOT a producer (for insurance/MOT/etc), but demands you identify the driver of the car. If you don't, they can prosecute you for that. Missing the NIP in the post is unfortunately no excuse. However, it doesn't sound like this is what they're demanding, which is strange. Not sure if red light cameras are different.
Missing the light because of the very self-evident heavy snow, and the instant stop after, may help, but that's IMHO, not a legal opinion
.
If it was me, I'd post on pepipoo, then get some legal advice. If they find you guilty of documents AND red light, you're almost certainly looking at another ban
.

Talking of changing times - I was in an office this week, staffed almost entirely by youngsters, all good kids, too. And not one of them thought that Brand & Ross done anything to warrant reprimand.
Different generations & ages see things so differently - not, in itself, necessarily a bad thing I suppose.
Yes it seems odd that a generation brought up in the atmosphere of political correctness can't see that baiting a pensioner over the phone might be suspect behaviour.

I thought it was 14 days!

The Notice of Intended Prosecution was issued out of time, what do I do now?
If you are the registered keeper of the vehicle and the ISSUE date on the Notice of Intended Prosecution is more than 14 days after the offence, then you can reject it. This only applies if it is dated more than 14 days after the alleged offence. It does not apply if it is dated within 14 days but received more than 14 days after the offence. If the NIP has been issued too late, then you should return it to the Process Office stating that you reject it because it is time barred. Bear in mind that if you are not the registered keeper, the NIP may have originally been issued within time and sent to the keeper.

IANAL though!

The 6 month rule is the time the police have to pass the data to the magistrates court, not the time they have to notify you (pepipoo).

May I suggest the son of an old, sadly no longer with us friend of mine who specialises in these matters, Nick Freeman.
I do believe that he charges an arm and a leg but virtually guarantees to get you off, hence his nickname Mr. Loophole.
If your license is on the line it may be worth it.

Motoring lawyer to the rich and famous, stunningly expensive I believe but worth every penny if your licence is worth a lot to you. Got under the skin of various police farces and found himself under arrest.

Thank you for all the advice & comments as to the Red Light thing.
I need to examine the Documents again now, to see what's what, & they are not to hand right now. "Looking like another ban", groan. I just stopped a few yards over the line, in bad driving conditions, at 3am, & the molehill seems to have grown into a mountain.
Adding to my licence woes, I omitted to Diary - I think - that I got stopped for using a Moby whilst driving, 3 months ago, (I blame new phone, heap of poo, Chili's fault, obv), & that got complicated, too, as I presented my Documents (sort of) to the Police Station one day outside the 7 day window, which was not well-received. Replacement Insurance Certificate & Driving Licence (paper counterpart) subsequently organised, (unable to find originals of either) but Police were not interersted in viewing them by then - "nope, it's too late now, what part of "within 7 days" don't you understand?". The annoying thing is they only have to press a few buttons on their Computer & they can see instantly that I have a valid Insurance Certificate & Driving Licence. That was almost 3 months back, I've heard no more, & with every passing day, I was beginning to think I'd got that one through. But now that Red Light thing has popped up 7 months after the event, I guess the Moby thing is still "live". I'll have about 27 points soon, at this rate.
Bugger.

And to cap it all, my Fry-Up got lambasted on the Fry-Up Thread, & the best mark I got (out of Ten) was 1.
I'm hurting here. Even Amatay got more marks than that.

Doesn't look good.
Probably won't help me stating the obvious but why no hands free kit or sat nav?
