Table Of Doom
This title is usually reserved for the ludicrously tough pro-studded table in any given tournament, but seeing as they're all a bit like that today, I am pronouncing table 6 to be our Ace-Cracking Table of Destruction. Aces have been cracked no less than four times that they know of over there, and twice they were the property of hapless Terence Owens. "That's the stack of aces cracked twice," he half-sighed, half-giggled as he looked down at his remaining 6.5k. Yikes. Another loser on the table seems to be Talal Shakerchi, down to around 10,000; the biggest winner on the table is Steve Jelinek, currently perched happily on 25,000 or so. I am cautiously declaring him chip leader, until a bigger stack comes to my attention.

Although this tournament is about as UK-star-studded as they come (player list shortly!), the atmosphere is currently a bit muted, with little of the party atmosphere that sometimes pervades GUKPTs. Currently at this prestigious championship event, there are exactly three railers, of whom one is reading the paper, one is nursing a pint and staring at the floor and one appears to be chewing on his wallet. This is tense stuff.
Nevertheless it's early days yet, with the number of runners on the board still slowly creeping up rather than dropping down with not a single player eliminated thus far (or "kicked out", as the dude from Gutshot put it). I expect the party atmosphere to kick in roughly when they start handing out glasses of wine...
Butters says: "Woo, par-tay."

Is there a bar I can sit at within viewing distance of moormans table? Is there a suitable toilet area to do hard drugs in? if yes to either of these questions I will be down shortly to ensure a party atmosphere of the highest class.
1. Yes, though Chris' table is only jsut about visible from the bar, given that it is on the other side of the room.
2. However on the plus side, there is a toilet right next to the bar, though I think they prefer you to stick to more legal and traditional activities in there (throwing up after your aces get cracked etc).
I would give the players an hour or two to warm up before you come and throw yourself into the festivities. By then there should be a healthy throng on the rail getting drunk in the bar.

Terence Owens might have been our first Kicked Out Player of the day, except for the minor point that the other guy folded and he picked up the pot instead. Owens (crippled after that whole getting his aces cracked twice episode) seems to have check-raised all in on a
flop and the gent to his left (for some reason not on our seating plan) eventually folded
face up, though still claiming, "I think I was way ahead..."

Surprise Entrant Of The Day
Yes, imagine our surprise at finding European Deepstack chopper and erstwhile blonde Irish correspondent Gary "Mclovin" Clarke at the tables. He won a seat online and is very pleased to be here. Probably. He didn't say.
Go Mclovin!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(Unless he's reading this, in which case
and go Gary!)

Pippa More than Pipped at River...
A pot of around 3,000 had grown between Pippa Flanders and Patrik Selin by the turn, with the board standing
. Both players checked or bet and called so fast it looked like they didn't move at all (I am going for the former) and the river came
. Flanders now bet out 1,500, called quickly by Selin whose
were of mild surprise, perhaps, to her, who calmly showed down the pure bluff
, mucked and waited patiently for the next hand. Peace reigns in the card room.
It's like someone's put tranquilisers in the whole room's water. Or something radioactive, as in the case of this mystery drink, glowing serenely green amongst the novelty GUKPT mint boxes.

Michael Ellis - last year's winner of this very event.
"What's it like being defending champion?" asks Iwan Jones.
"I haven't won a hand since."

Finally! Just before the first break, the cry of "One down!" at last echoes around the card room. Somehow crippled down to just 1,175, Dean Lyall open-shoved under the gun and got himself a call from Tony Cascarino, followed, much to Cascarino's dismay, by a reraise from Adam Clark. Cascarino made a face and passed, and they were on their backs.
Lyall:
Clark:
To the soundtrack of Cascarino bemoaning not shoving over the top of Clark, the board came down
and this tournament is properly underway!

Will Kassouf appears to be on his last tournament legs already. Something prior to this hand must have been even more dramatic to report than this one, judging by his <7k stack at the start of it, but you get what my middle-distance staredar picks up:
A pot of 3,650 had built up between Kassouf and John Tabatabai, who was so quiet during the hand (and who'd put on a plain sort of overhoody) that I referred to him as Matey and only recognised him in the final moments of its play. Tabatabai had bet out 3,200 on the river with the board
. A long dwell ensued as Kassouf considered his remaining 4,300 chips and the bet, and Tabatabai, and the board. You know how it goes. Eventually he made the call (leaving himself just 1,100 behind) and nod-folded when John flipped the
