Sky will be defending the yellow & looking to control the breakaway, a hot, difficult & stressful day for them.

One of the stages opportunist riders, KOM hopefuls & desperate teams will be looking for a win. Add in the fact that teams like Saxo, BMC & Garmin suffered badly in stage 8 & I think this is the most unpredictable & explosive stage yet.

>50% chance a breakaway succeeds.

Bookies have Voeckler @ 6/1, he’ll try but really don’t see him having much success, no value there imo.

Some names I think could make it in a break:

Gorka Izagirre.
Brice Feillu.
Lieuwe Westar (again!) or maybe from the same team Thomas de Gendt.
Blel Kadri
Matteo Trentin
Simon Clarke
Lars Petter Nordhaug

A frantic & scary day for all, whether a top GC or sprinter looking to make the time cut off...

Today's stage should have been piss easy compared to tomorrow. Which absolutely terrifies me!

Sprinters & non climbers will be in danger of missing the cut off time at this pace.

Would love to see what's going on in the Sky team cars. Brailsford hates to loose control.

They're going over the climb today that Fabio Casartelli died on a few years ago.

I remember watching that at the time.  IIRC, that's the accident that triggered the mandatory wearing of helmets.

Whenever I see footage of them descending, even now, it brings back memories of that accident and the risks that they take in the race.

It's similar to the bunch sprints always reminding me of Abdoujaparov's crash against the barriers.

Like the look of Dan Martin FTW available @ 20/1. Fast on the line in a reduced bunch sprint.

Richie Porte almost 10 mins down! A bad day & poor positioning early in the stage has cost him dearly.
