We interrupt this singularly sexist Diary to bring you some spammage.

Well it was another tough morning but once again I just about managed to get there.

I trained legs as planned and I have to say it felt really good. I've always enjoyed leg training and I'd like to push this a bit harder than I have on previous returns to the gym.

Started with a steady warm up then moved on to leg extensions, leg curls, squats, adductors, abductors and finished with calves. I wouldn't normally do this much but I was going very light to ease myself back in to it so it wasn't a problem doing more exercises than standard.

Today's exercise of the day:

The good old squat. You really can't beat squats for leg development in my opinion. Purests would prefer a free squat as it works the stabilising muscles as well but the variant above in a smith machine is also great for overall leg and glute development.

Free squat:

When free squatting you really need a squat rack for the weight. You'll usually be doing quite heavy weights and to have to lift it off the floor, put it behind your neck then put it down again after a set would be impossible.

Squat rack:

Today's squatting effort...... 60kg. Previous best....... about 160kg!! Sighs.....

Interesting that you list the smith machine as your preference Greg.

I must admit I'm a big fan of them as well for squatting but I think I'd have to sway towards the free squat myself.

And then would you shag 1 first?

I must admit what you just said made no sense to me.

Sorry Greg but this is a training diary and I'm focussing purely on the exercises. For your benefit and to help it maybe make sense in the future here's another picture ......

Calf raises. Absolute must for any leg training routine. A lot of people neglect calves but it's a huge mistake! If you can sit with your ankles and knees together and your calves don't touch then they need some serious work!!

Even my calves touch when my knees and ankles are together.

A lot of the noexplode crew ignore legs from what I have seen, they always strut around the gym looking like chickens. Top work getting bk into the gym and what an advert for your gym this thread is. Ps, what you are lifting now is my max!!

I was chatting to Matt and Maria during the breaks at DTD yesterday. My goodness they look well. They're both so slim and fit, its difficult to tell them apart.
