Are your on a "Pear Shaped" diet, or did it just go that way, Tom?

Only 8?

Hurtful.

A little while ago I read something about people selling thousands of small shares to raise start up money for a new idea or business. venture.

I think it's quite a new, web / social media based phenomenon. There was a term for it but I can't remember what it was.

Like Kickstarter?

I think it's something along those lines,  but perhaps not so formal.

I seem to remember that it first came to my notice because someone had asked for something like six quid to buy the ingredients for a recipe and several hundred people sent him 5p each.

Or maybe I've dreamt it all.

This morning I found out, quite by accident, that chaparral is a brush or heathland shrub that grows to about waist height and covers around 5% of the state of California.

For some reason, it seemed like a really profound discovery. It made me go 'Oh I see..'

Other children of the late 50s and early 60s, especially those with a penchant for cheesy westerns, might go 'Oh I see' too.

I loved all the 'cowboys'. High Chaparral, Bonanza, The Big Valley, Rifleman, Alias Smith and Jones, Sugarfoot, Rawhide....

Westerns aside, these ladies starred in two of my favourite shows as a kid. Can't think why :-)

The Dead

BLOW out, you bugles, over the rich Dead!
  There’s none of these so lonely and poor of old,
  But, dying, has made us rarer gifts than gold.
These laid the world away; poured out the red
Sweet wine of youth; gave up the years to be
  Of work and joy, and that unhoped serene,
  That men call age; and those who would have been,
Their sons, they gave, their immortality.

Blow, bugles, blow! They brought us, for our dearth,
  Holiness, lacked so long, and Love, and Pain.
Honour has come back, as a king, to earth,
  And paid his subjects with a royal wage;
And Nobleness walks in our ways again;
  And we have come into our heritage.

Thought this might appeal to you

A whale shark being transported after it was caught in a fishermen's net in Yangzhi county, Fujian province. According to local media, the whale shark is five-metres-long and weighs over 2 tonnes.

Lovely sentiment, but I don't think I'm sophisticated enough to really appreciate Rupert Brooke. His poems aren't rhymey enough for me.
