Leaks in the blinds....
«
on:
November 14, 2008, 11:23:04 AM »
So, I took advice from God and bought HEM and stuck with Betfair/DTD (mostly BF 'cos they pay Rakeback - just wish the software was better)
I've got 4667 hands worth of history at 10c/20c and overall I'm winning 17.13 bb/100
VPIP% 27.5%
BUT - in the SB I'm
-15.05
bb/100
and in the BB it's
-43.91
bb/100
how bad
is
that?
If it's really bad (which it feels) then what should I be looking for in more detail to find ways to reduce the leak?

What are your VPIP figures out of the blinds when you look at the position report?

You've given me your VPIP figures from every position except the blinds...
And 71% from UTG is ridiculously high - your VPIP should increase from UTG to the button. Why are you playing nearly 3/4 of your UTG hands?

I'm not! I'm just too stupid to read your question properly those were the bb/100 figures
so - let's try again - for completeness (small amendment to OP due to my first attempt to focus on 10c/20c included a tiny number of 1p/2p hands
bb/100 / VPIP% / PFR% / WTSD% / W$SD%
SB -
-15.13
/ 55.9 / 7.8 / 23.6 / 46.2
BB - -
44.07
/ 20.3 / 5.1 / 21.3 / 47.1
Early - 71.6 / 23.3 / 12.5 / 29.7 / 74.1
Middle - 48.08 / 22.5 / 10.9 / 29.9 / 53.5
Cutoff - 28.79 / 22.1 / 9.3 / 31.4 / 52.8
Button - 45.7 / 27.5 / 12.1 / 35.5 / 57.7

Erm post a screen shot if possible but 71% vpip from early position can't be good. You should get looser the close you get to the button and then tighter again in the blinds. All about position this game.
You will always be a loser out of the blinds, even god (Alex Martin ldo) will lose money from the blinds. Your sample for winrates from any position is far too small.
If you bored and looking for some advice from a donkey about what stats to look at, it is for poker tracker 2 but hem is similar. Have a look at this.

At 6max, simply folding every hand in the blinds would give you BB/100 rates of -8.3 in the SB and -16.6 in the BB (or -16.6 and -33.3 - can't remember if that figure is big bets or big blinds in PT).
Either way, just from playing any hands at all right now, you're losing money - you'd currently be better off folding everything. As it is, don't fold everything, just fold lots.
Especially from the SB - I had the same leak when I started playing, because it's cheap you'll have a look at the flop, not taking into account you're OOP for the whole hand.

Aaah ok thought it was a bit wild lol. Still no sign of positional awareness in the stats, tighten up from utg and loosen up on the button esp more isolation raises (meaning raising the limpers). I am happy folding a10o utg and opening 58s on the button for example.
You are limping too much as well get the pfr close vpip imo, ignore the winrate the sample sizes simply aren't big enough.

Once again I owe big thanks to you guys.
I have the HUD article on my desktop to read in more detail Longy - it looks good stuff.
Andy T - yes, that's exactly how it's gone, I'm in the blinds and i look at ATC and a small extra contribution to the pot ......
then the BB makes a min raise.....
It's amazing how much difference folding most of the SBs and resisting the urge to call raises from the BB makes. I just played c220 hands nd my VPIP% is down to 23..., and my win rate for the session is 34.7 bb/100
I'll look at more detailed numbers later.

I routinely fold my SB, even when pot odds dictate that I prehaps shouldn't. For example, if there's 5 limpers I'm getting 13:1 on a call, so any two cards should do. A lot of people can't get their head around me folding here, but for trashy hands like 72o, 83o etc I don't even think twice before folding. You're OOP for the rest of the hand, and hands you do hit will most likely end up being second best. When you hit a flop hard you'll generally not be getting paid. (eg, what do you expect to hit with 83o and get paid off with?)
