Day2 Deepstack

I didnt really go into Saturday with any great expectations but have been able to spin up stacks since the middle of last year and believe I have a pretty good grind ethic and as I sat down and saw only Middy who I recognised I thought if I could just double up we could have a deep run and as we were on table 12 it was unlikey I would be moving all day.

I saw some amazing things happen at the poker table during the day and there was one gentleman who really loved the game basically playing any 2 and either getting there with one comedy hand where he called an all in with on a 3 diamond board with no pair or gut shot and the shover had a big pair and as the diamond rolled in he rubbed the guy down by saying "I knew you didnt have a diamond in your hand which was why I called mate".

He also provided this commentary when another short stack was all in vs me

335k after open 44 utg to 13k @6k bb and MP jams for 45k total.

As the cards go over the guy 2 to my right says I passed a four but luckily we were up against AJ and flopped the other 4 on 488

"I passed a 4 guy" then gives me a fist pump with a big "Yessssssss"

After we had Ko'd Middy it was all upwards on the chip curve for a long while and we pretty much coasted into the money with the bigger bubble looming at 31 when the next out didnt get a WPT seat for November and was an event I missed last year so it would be good to lock one up early for me and this months staking team.

Taking Middy's spot now was my good friend Steve O'Keefe who we always have an unwritten swap with if we play the same event and a % of cash works itself one way or another during the year and he came over pretty chipped up and is good banter at the table and sat to my left was a young lady who I had seen before at a Sky event 2 years ago and remember her being pretty smashed and berating of the table at everyone's play which I reminded her of but she took it in good spirits.  We were just chit chatting and someone else asked where I was from so I said Leigh on Sea in Essex and she then asked a few minutes later what I did for a living so I told her I was an Estate Agent (it normally works!) to which she replied "I knew that" and it transpired that she had stumbled across my diary a few months ago and had read the best bits (pages 1-50 imo) and had even taken the time to link it up on FB saying that any degenerate 20 year olds should read it and she said she could really relate to a lot of the stuff in there which was nice to hear.

Unfortunately she bust without a WPT seat but with a couple of grand and she has quite a game so am sure another opportunity will arise for her and she changed my opinion of her massively from the first time we met!

The rest of my day went well and with 40 left I got to 900k so had seat locked but then lost 2 annoying pots to go back to 500k and still felt I would need to win a pot to get a seat and dug in for the grind as I posted here halfway down in the staking thread  http://blondepoker.com/forum/index.php?topic=65490.75    hand for hand dragged a bit and myself and Steve had a conversation about the seat should not affect things to which I disagreed and am sure I am right as you needed to finish 10th to get the value of the seat if it werent there and therefore it would be bad to dust off a stack and it should be played as a satelite until the seat bubble burst.

Based on that I made a bad open with AQdd utg1 as the big stack was on the button and put in a hefty 3b and I folded without showing and took a walk round the tables H4H to see that there were 3 shorter than me and one guy had 4bbs so I was inwardly funking for him to bust which eventually he did and then you saw people get in rediculous stacks with very less than average hands as if their whole goal was the seat and had forgot about the £££ uptop and knowing how you can spin up from 1bb as we did at the Sky 6Max I just sat patiently whilst Steve heatered upto 2 million with a few hands of the day left.

Most of my table knew that I had made day2 of the 25/25 which I think made them think I would just gii light but that was never going to happen but I was AI on the last hand vs Steve when he opened btn and I shipped AQdd and we won the race vs 99 to make back to back Day 3's at DTD and also means that having played 13 Mtt's all year I have now had 7 cashes with 6 flags so am definitely out performing skill level and expectation Wink

I went to see my brother and my little nephew who is 5-6 weeks old now having had 6 hours sleep (kids get you this way) even though I was in thee comfiest hotel king bed I have slept in for a long while and then rocked up at DTD in good spirits with my 15 bigs which was the same number of bigs that we rocked up 24 hours earlier with.

Here he is with Finlay (despite the photo he is one year younger than me which obv makes you feel great as for years he used to rib me about me looking old)

We kept the same tables as the night before and ergo everyone knew about Leicester so they all expected me to be just ripping but they really hadnt thought it through so the very first hand I shipped the button with 15bbs and AJss and got called for 80% of the villains stack with 66 and we won the race to get to 30bb and in with a shot agai but unfortunately we lost a race (hadnt lost many this weekend) for 16bbs Aipf with Ako vs 99 to take a sizeable hit and then peeled for one bb when Tim Blake opened UTG and Steve called the button and we had Q9dd but check folded as we flopped zilch.

Our exit was a bit boring jamming Q10 for 8bbs otb and getting looked up by Tim with A6cc and were turned pretty thin so exited and said goodbye before driving straight to Leicester where we eventually finished 9th for a bit more dough but not a TOP3!!! Just gotta keep knocking at the door I suppose.

Whilst driving down I heard Steve had finished 3rd so got a further £1k from our swap which is nice and now apart from some online cash there will be no more live poker until next months deepstack when we will do it all again.

Thanks for all the nice words and the rail from anyone who I saw or spoke to at the weekend it is really nice to read the texts etc and I look forward to next month to play some live poker again.

I think I love the game in a good way although I may still seem degenerate to some with multi tabling comps in diff casino's but playing about 20 comps a year across 12 weekends during that year I try to squeeze as much into it as I can.

Cheers Andy, we dont have any properties together now which was probably the main bone of contention so can just be brothers again, and as he has recently had his first baby with Petra doing the photography we have gotten a lot closer again.

When I go to DTD I always make an effort to go and see them so long may it continue.

You still rocking the beard mate?

Family and business rarely mix well together especially when the personalities are poles apart.

The beard is still here but will be gone in the next few weeks in time for my holiday. I kind of like it but the wife hates it so it's win win Smiley

Not really done a lot this week apart from work although did take a family day off on Thursday and went to the park a few mins walk up the road and 5 mins from the seafront and it reminded me of how lucky I am to live in the area I do with Leigh Broadway being 5 mins away, the beach 5 mins away and London just 40 mins on the train.

Heres a couple of vid's of the kids and obligatory selfie of Max with his Callipo ice lolly on a hot day!

The dog loves it too.

Now that Max understands more you just get really random conversations out of him which I find so funny the things that come into their heads, here he was yesterday as we were on the seafront.

We are currently planning a pretty big extension on our house for next year when we will look to change our 3 bed 1930's semi into a 5 bed by creating 2 double bedrooms in the loft and a bathroom and going out on the side whilst wrapping it round the back to give a bigger kitchen/diner with vaulted ceiling and sexy back enabling the dining room on the back to be solely used as a photography studio.

It will be a pretty big job and we have decided to move out and rent for a few months whilst the work is done and below are the plans for the extension which will make it big enough for us as a family if indeed we do have another little one in the coming 12-18months and mean we wouldnt have to move by choice as the property will be big enough for us forever and whilst around here everyone wants to move to detached places the location of our home is perfect so we will try and make money through property a different way.
Just need to wait for the planning permission now...

If anyone ever has any property questions then please feel free to ask itt or pm if you want to keep it private as I will always try to help with info or do some research for you.

Fathers Day has come and gone and I know Petra likes to be a touch creative in all areas of life so it was no surpise not to receive a standard present but instead get a nice home made painted card from the kids and then using her photography skills managed to get the kids hands still ong enough to create this photo and make a clay decorative slab with "Dad Rocks" on it which was nice.

After Max's football and a spot of lunch we spent the day down at Adventure Island on the seafront with Ivy's first ever rides on the kiddie rollercoaster's (check out the photo on FB) amongst others and whilst there we stumbled across the obligatory "Carnival Games" section and as soon as Max saw the large Minion figure then I knew I was going to be under it to win one with the game in question being the "Throw 2 balls in the bucket with both remaining in there to win a prize"

and at £2 a pop this could have been expensive but after 2 tester goes where I got 1/2 both times we managed to spin two balls in and won this....

This was Max's face in the first ride selfie we did as we drive past this place so often and yet he only gets to go a couple of times per year but am sure he will go loads more as he gets older with an annual pass being just £45 which is great value locally.

This week should see me finally hearing on the Smokehouse venue after some communication from the Landlords which will see it go one way or another by Thursday so got my fingers corssed that it's positive news...

Well whilst all the bosses are over the pond I am still here in Blighty and life has been it's usual busy self with the tangled web of businesses and my day job as well but I cannot complain so I thought I would do a quick update.

Last weekend was the deepstack weekend and I had sold a small package of 2 events to the usual punters and despite making day 2 of the HR I bust earlyish on day2 well out of the money so all focus was given to the main which I had already made day 2 with 40 bbs so was hopeful of a deep run however an hour into day 2 I wondered whether I would be entering the 2nd chance as I was up and down like a whores underwear.

I cannot remember having a day like it tbh and 2 hands in I had moved from 160 > 200k when I made a speculative open with 810cc ( <3 parsley) utg and had to call off a shortie getting just over 2/1 and getting there vs A10o but then lost 3 pots to go 120 > 100 > 66 and found a double vs Trigg with QQ vs A9 before I was moved tables to a great table and double back to 225k but got moved again much to my disappointment when a light went from above our head so they broke us out of order.

My chip stack continued to fluctuate for the rest of the day until we got around the bubble and I peeled a Guy Taylor open from the co with 99 otb and we saw a 777 flop which got checked from the SB & Guy to me and I led with just Guy calling and I called the 9 in in my head and it duly binked with me keeping the lead but Guy called again after a dwell and I got the impression he was jamming the river which was the 10c and after a dwell he jammed. I called and he insta mucked which meant we would now be itm so could try and get another seat to the WPT in November and a great last level meant we had 3/4 average with 37 left for Sunday and 4/6 day 3's where day are part of the comp in the ones I have played since the back end of last year.

Day 3 started off slowly and I was texting Spittles and Tom Langley updates throughout and I dont remember having a stack of anything less than 9bbs and no more than 25bbs at any point during the day and my mindset was I was always doubling when required but couldnt find myself with 2 pots together so just kept myself out of trouble as the big bubble for me came up and after only a few hands this time we had locked up the seat and could kick on for a deeper run than last months 21st place finish.  Alas we could only finish 12th but everyone had a sweat and having paid back all the investors they now have pretty much a freeroll in August where I am playing the Deepstack (HR and Main), UKIPT Bristol and then the Sky 6max having broken up the 2nd WPT seat we have won and a small top up from all parties so a good run in one of those will give us a decent profit overall.

I looked at my records for this year and didnt think I had played as many comps as I had but when I included everything including side events or the odd Luton comp I have now played 18 live comps this year and cashed for 8 times (inc one unreported bowl amount from Luton) so before anyone else says it I am definitely running ahead of expectation Wink

Also last weekend I bumped into this legend

It's a good couple of years since I have seen him but I know he had come off the circuit and got a real job in London and now just plays a few times and year and actually looks really healthy for it, he doesnt post much anymore but is SM00035 which I think maybe his age now Wink anyway it was good to see him accumulating chips in the 2nd chance which he won.

I have been in contact with someone who is probably very similar to how I was when I was in my early 20's and at the start of my degeneracy and they have been asking for advice etc and their story is so close to mine (I obv wont name names but they will know who they are when they read this) and when I look back I hope they manage to get themselves out of the cycle that they are currently in as I said to them as much as I have managed to rebuild and dig myself out of a few scrapes over the past couple I definitely dont think they would want to be me in 15-20 years time.

Hopefully they will listen to some of the advice I give and will continue to give over the coming months as although when you have an addictive personality there is always that theoretical self destruct button available to press you don't actually need to press it and can lead a fulfilling life without it being boring or you losing your edge!

Talking of my fulfilling life on my day off last week having been away from the kids for a few days we spent it in Old Leigh which is the quaint fishing village in Leigh on sea and a must visit if you are ever in the area with cobbled streets and little cafes and a couple of top drawer restaurants and being tucked away from Southend you get a better quality of beach visitor with us spending a bit of time eating seafood at the cocklesheds and then the kids walking out on the mud flats with one of their friends as the tide was well out.
It is one of the things I love about living here by the sea!

Work has been really busy with the housing market still taking off down here due to a lack of supply of properties and us currently holding only 25 available in our stock cabinet and every new instruction that is fresh to the market is selling for more than the asking price in 24/48 hours.  EG We placed a house on the market yesterday at 4.45pm and it hasnt even touched the internet yet but these fabulous girls below (Please do not question my recruitment policy!!!) got straight on the phones and today they have had 8 viewings from people who have not even seen the details as we cant be bothered to type them will do them Monday when it's sold and after 2/8 viewings we are currently £15k above the asking price that was set at £450k for a house worth £425k.

Our half year figures across the 3 offices on residential sales fees only are that we have turned over £600k which is £110k more than at this point last year and our business pipeline is 15% higher than the same period so we are in a healthy position to get close to £1.35million from the 3 offices which will be acceptable but means I may need to recruit again...

Finally the Restaurant venture is still stalling but mainly as I think I am on the back burner with the landlords who just feed me piecemeal to keep my interest whilst a bigger concern is in negotiation but I am at a point in the next few weeks where my interest in the venture/premises will end and I shall research other places but not in our area.

This week brings a couple of days at work and then a week in Slovakia to visit the outlaws with Petra and the kids.

Time for an update?
Well as I have not been that active I had better do this in stages.

After the July deepstack we flew mid month to Slovakia for a week to see Petra's folks and as many know I love Slovakia, especially the villages just out of Bratislava and would happily live over there at some point in my life but that's a tad unrealistic with kids etc atm.

They live a simple life in many respects and the cost of living is pretty cheap giving a lot of bang for your euro!
The views from the villages are great and below are a couple of clips of either the roads between the villages or the views from around

The kids love it over there and spending time with their Babka and Jedo (Grandma and Grandad) and although Ivy isnt as quick on the uptake as Max was whenever Maria or Jozef ask them something in Slovak (as they dont speak English at all) Max understands and then responds with the answer in English.
Here they are with Babka and Jedo

At Petra's sisters having lunch (notice the before and after of Petra's new Elfin haircut) with the potato salad being one prepared with sliced boiled potato's served in a water with pepper, vinegar, sugar and onions (doesnt sound great but tastes incred)

A lot of families have these summer houses that they spend weekends at or if you live in Bratislava central where it's mostly flats and apartments they have these and travel out to for a couple of days at a time.
Here was a really nice one being built a year ago

The weather there as Pads had posted in his blog about Hungary was amazing with it 37/38 degrees every day but its just a shame its land locked Sad

We flew back on the 23rd and it was back to the grind at work...
