I'd clean forgotten about the days at The Vic or Luton where they turned you away if you were wearing trainers or a t-shirt.
Ian "Belly" Oldershaw turned up at The Vic one night wearing a t-shirt so he got turned away. The only shop open was Woolworths which had a children clothes department, so he purchased a shirt labelled as "for 10-12 tear olds". Ian was a chunky sort and the buttons would not reach, never mind do up, but it was a collared shirt so they let him in.
I lost count of how many players got turned away from Luton for wearing trainers or trackie bottoms.
I actually thought a reasonable dress code was a good thing.
Luton was the funniest. I mean, really? Come on now, do me a favour
I could understand the likes of the Vic, Sportsman, Palm Beach having one, though.
The in your seat before first hand was gone by the time the GUKPT came around, or maybe a couple comps in?
Yeah, it was about that time, or slightly earlier.
Trumper, sponsored by 365 Media (I think?) was seconds late at a big Blackpool Event & even though he had paid in 24 hours earlier he was disqualified, and it happened to Rob Yong at Gala Notts, which indirectly led to the founding of DTD, via all sorts of legal battles.
What a touch for UK poker that turned out to be!

Oh god, the first year of the GUKPT where play could not start until after 4pm for some reason, and you had to be in your seat before the first hand.
From memory in year 2, which I think was 2007, late reg began.

That's right, I remember vaguely now you mention it.
I played 2 or 3 of the first season, and think it was something to do with the Football?

Thnk you just turn up and get everything checked out with the Rio staff, and then you're good to go.
Good luck, mate!

So I made it. Getting in was easy, even with a documentation of recovery, but I'd still recommend getting an antigen test.
Pretty sure I saw big Pete Charra at Aria at 3am this morning (9th Nov) but it looked like he was leaving his game and I'd just started mine.
Havent made it to Rio yet so can't report on ease of proving vaccinated status, sorry!

Nice one, glad to hear all went smoothly.
I guess they're putting all the onus on airlines being stringent with the pre-flight stuff.
Have a great trip!

It was pretty easy getting in, actually easier than before because of less flights (if you ignore my lost luggage). I’d recommend going to the uk airport early and getting Verifly if you are going BA. Saves any hassle and takes 5 mins to complete.

Glad it was nice and easy.
#VirginAtlantic soldier, and think you just fill it in on their website 72 hours before flying.

I'm looking at travelling to Las Vegas next June, Group of 4 looking for self catering. I'm looking at vrbo, Booking.com and airbnb. Any other websites I should be looking at? Thanks.

Craigslist? Fwiw, never used it.
Interested to hear what sort of thing you have in mind tee'd up (or as a benchmark to gauge what is out there and possible alternatives) In the past, I have steered away from it just happy to pay a premium to be on strip and not have any comeback from shady counterparties. When I used to grind a lot of poker I often used hotels that came with a decent self-catering option (Vdara, Elara, Trump (whoops) Signature ) Unsure if you are looking for an off-strip 5BDR pad with pool, or something else. With the obscene cost of car rental right now, getting 2 adjacent rooms in Vdara might not be horrible, in terms of price, comfort and proximity.

Aww, kind of sad I have missed this one now. Guess we'll get used to the new venue soon enough tho.

So many years up there, I'm surprised we're all not at bulletproof levels of immunity to the vid
