In the old days the prize money was often 60%, 30%, 10%.
If the chip leader had a good lead and didn't want to deal 2nd and 3rd might agree to flatten the structure to 20% each and carry on playing, in effect a deal between themselves, a saver, and not really affecting the CL other than money pressure.
They might also agree to save 25% of whatever they win "in running", is that allowed these days?

If the Chip leader has locked it up, why would he consider playing on (unless friends with 2nd or 3rd if you get my drift). If it is not locked up then it effects everything if CL has a meltdown.
It may not be considered collusion but actually is for the 2nd and 3rd to have a 25% saver, because it may well lead to collusion indirectly so would not be allowed.
