Title: Sponsorship deal for Colchester Kev
Post by: AlrightJack on April 01, 2006, 11:49:27 AM
Yes, Blue Square has finally decided to sponsor Kev, but not as a player, as a railbird!

In the last few months the number of players qualifying online at Blue Square for live events has increased significantly, especially for Grosvenor festivals.  At the latest festival at the Vic there were 12 online qualifiers. It has become increasingly difficult to rail all of these by myself and given Kev’s general good nature and popularity on the circuit, Blue Square has agreed to take him on in this specific role.

Kev will have his hotel, travelling and living expenses paid for him during a three month trial period, which may be extended to cover the WSOP in July - if Kev meet certain performance criteria, notably a marked improvement in the results achieved by qualifiers. While there were good performances by online qualifiers towards the end of last year, there have been none of late.

Kev has the option to exchange his ‘expenses’ deal for a ‘5% of any qualifiers’ deal, but he’s waiting to see if the standard of play from qualifiers improves and will make a decision on this after next week’s Luton Springfest.

Well done Kev, glad to have you on board!

I told Blue Square I need some help and they agreed. The 5% swap bit was a joke though...

Not jealousy as such (well a little maybe), i just don't see how you can justify this.
Sponsoring players to play poker brings attention to bluesquare when results are obtained, but someone paid to sleep, eat and drink does nothing!!!!!!

I would like to thank Jonathon and Blue Square for this fantastic opportunity, I have been itching to say something but I was sworn to secrecy until all the details had been finalised.   I can reveal that I will be travelling to Luton and Dublin, and also two major european events which we have yet to finalise.  I have been given an incentive to make the wsop in vegas, and have also been paid into all the qualifiers on Blue square to try and make it as a player !!!

Again thanks for the chance, i will do my best to be an ambassador for Blue Square.

Well done and good luck in the qualifiers.

Nice move by Blue Square in getting some infrastructure support for their qualifiers to live tourneys.

Blue sq couldn't have chosen a better player/railer to sponsor...

His all round railing ability is well documented and his top ten finish in the european railing rankings was well deserved.

His superbly timed Ayyyyyyarrrrrrrrrrs are well respected by the poker community as a whole.

Big up to you kev.. a well deserved honour

Nice.
I'm happy for Kev but it's the people who's rake that goes to pay for this i feel sorry for, wouldn't be better and more beneficial to add to the prize fund or to sponsor an extra player?

£10 is cheap though if they were to employ someone to LOOK after there players it would mean atleast a £40k salary and hen there is pension rights etc etc

anyway 3 months kev could do £15k worth of pies never mind the JD

Well, whatever the rights & wrongs, I'm delighted for Kev, it could not happen to a nicer bloke.

He Rails all of us when we need the PRO, he's always there, specially online, & while he sticks his elbows in my ribs, if anyone has a go at me, well, Kev soon sorts 'em out. "Look Dummy, I can call tikay  Fish, but you can't".

blonde are also pleased to announce that we will be sponsoring Kev, as a male model, for our new range of blonde thongs, for Traffic Reports - he's the "Pie in the sky", & our pair of eyes on the Poker Scene, Kev sees things from several perspectives at the same time. We have, however, limited the sponsoship to $50,000, or 10% of Kev's Bar Bill, (sorry, Hospitality Bill) whichever is the greater.

His new name will be Couch, The "Eddie The Eagle" of Poker.

Go Couch.

The costs are actually not as bad as you would think. Most of the pies and drinks will be comp'ed in the Grosvenors. It was either spend it on someone to do back massages, like they do at the EPT, or Kev - we figured he's be a more popular choice and he can do a bit of shoulder massaging anyway.

Basically Blue Square have killed three birds with one stone:

1. Someone to help rail the online qualifiers.
2. Somone to do massage for the players...and he only charges 3% for a 10 min massage, 5% for 20 mins.
3. Kev has stopped nagging them to give him a sponsorship deal.

Im sorry that perhaps one or 2 people feel that this is an undeserved opportunity, however perhaps they might ask themselves how they would react if it was them on the receiving end of such an offer.

I fully intend to grasp this chance and put maximum effort and time into ensuring it works for both parties .

Not jealousy as such (well a little maybe), i just don't see how you can justify this.
Sponsoring players to play poker brings attention to bluesquare when results are obtained, but someone paid to sleep, eat and drink does nothing!!!!!!

It's a shame you can't just be happy for Kev, Ian.

Ironside Kev served his purpose well but as in life you have to always upgrade, unfortunately we are going for a Dolly Bird approach and someone who will Iron our clothes on Tour. lol (plus we've had a baron run of late and can not afford his bar bill, thats why we are happy he has been taken on by a big corprate like Blue Sq)

I think Railbirds are important in Poker, wether your playing online or live the support does make a huge difference.
It keeps you focused when your tired and it's nice to have somone in your corner when playing. I think BS have got
one of the best Railbirds in the Bussiness,  who will do his best to get BS players on final tables. I think it's a very clever thing what BS have done and they are getting fantastic value for there money. I wish Kev all the best for the future.

There would be a mutiny, when he starts shouting to his mates/bluesquare qualies, the rest of the table would get upset and get him barred!!

Mate I know it's hit a nerve with you. If you got the deal everyone would be happy for YOU.

You are looking like a bit of a Mardy Mustard.

"tall poppies" they call them in Australia. Beware.

Now, go away, I'm busy. I'm one off the Final of the Laddies 85 runner $200 Omaha, $7,800 to the winner. Will go nicely with the $4,800 I netted yesterday for winning the $250 NLH. That'll do nicely for me.

Ok time to come clean ...

this has been in the pipeline for a few weeks if not months, When Jon told me he was going to announce it today , I reminded him of the date. His thoughts were that it would get a lot more reaction on a day like today, and besides that he had to make the announcement before i arrived at Luton on monday.

looks like he was right, lol.

Thankyou again for all the good wishes.

OK OK OK ........

It is Now April the 2nd and YES it was a wind up,  Many thanks to AlrightJack for being a great sport and agreeing to join in and start the ball rolling.

It started out as a late night converstaion with another Blondeite to see if we could come up with something that could only be a joke, yet with a bit of work we could make it sound plausible...  Step forward Mr.ifm :D   He played a blinder !! we thought that if someone started to question the deal we could reply and give the whole thing some credibility.   He was my accomplice and then we roped AlrightJack and snoopy in on the deal to reply to ifm and build the whole thing up.

I hope you will all forgive us for the deception, and I was truly touched to get so many good wishes from so many people...  For those that swallowed it hook line and sinker please dont take offence, It was meant in the spirit of this place and I hope it is received as such.

TY TY TY to ifm , AlrightJack (Jon Raab) and the snoopster for their help.

And Jon, Judging by the reaction .....   I would be willing to listen to any SERIOUS offers of a deal ;)

AYYYYYYYYYYYAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR !!

ive read this from start to finish today as i was out yesterday watching the mighty gunners batter villa 5-0. yes thats 5 - 0 snoops.

and my 1st reaction was it was a wind up. then i started to think well maybe......... but then i think snoops gave it away with having a pop at ifm which is out of charchter for snoops knowing that ifm would probably throttle him at walsall next time they bumped into each and also ifm didnt really react to snoopy's comments ;goodvevil; ;goodvevil;

great wind-up though guys but i think it should happen  :D

I agree Dan when you say snippy's comments were out of character but he was the only one who was willing to start to have a real dig at me, i couldn't have a pop back at people who weren't in on it, that , though funny wouldn't have been right.
The idea was for me to have a running battle with either Jonathan or Kev, slowly escalating to the point where someone had to step in to calm it all down :D
We even predicted who would come back on afterwards and say "i knew it all along blah blah blah".

Too bad this was a joke since I thought this was a good move by Blue Square to show a level of customer service, for not a lot of money, and take them up a division in the league of online poker sites.

Again thanks for the chance, i will do my best to be an ambassador for Blue Square.

terms and conditions still the same   given ur new lifestyle??

I can confirm that due to the current economic climate, Blue Square will have to shelve this idea, but will revisit it with a view to making a senior railbird appointment sometime in the new year. Other applicants are welcome, but you will have to beat Kev in a heads-up chicken and mushroom pie eating contest in order to qualify for an interview.

Hmm interesting, with your recent loss of pie capacity I think I might be in the running here.

Sponsoring players to play poker brings attention to bluesquare when results are obtained, but someone paid to sleep, eat and drink does nothing!!!!!!

Mike's been here for years now.

Nah, this one definitely wins.. It was the perfect April Fools joke, everyone knew it 1st April but it had just enough credibility to make you wonder.. is it really true?

And the actors played their roles perfectly.

As I said before hats off to all involved.
