I was listening to radio 4 while driving this morning and there was a quiz question.
A baker makes a batch of mince pies. Someone buys 3/4 of them for a party. Someone buys half the remaining amount and then buys 7 more. Someone buys the last 9.
How many were there in total?
I'm crap at maths but I came up with 128, and then the programme ended and they didn't tell me if I was right or wrong.

From the title I thought this was going to be another thread about Tom losing his glasses.

Please remember mince pies are not just for Christmas.

The very last hand of the night goes to Dewi James, who finds ACES and talks Raymond O’Mahoney into calling his all-in preflop bet of 15k. “If I had AQ, I’d call!” says Dewi. Raymond calls holding pocket 66’s.

Please remember, a turkey is not for life, it's just for Christmas.

1 - (3/4) = 1/4 1/4 * 1/2 = 1/8 1/8 - 7 = 9 1/8 = 7+9 = 16 Total = 16 * 8 = 128

This assumes that the person bought 7 more from the same baker

There is a problem with the question.
Someone bought 23 mince pies, instead of 24 or 20?
When has anyone ever done that?
I don't believe this actually happened.

Take the numbers 1 to 9 in numerical order and put either a plus sign, a minus sign or nothing between the digits to break the string of numbers down into a sum that adds up to 100.
What is the fewest number of pluses and minuses you need to do this? (Apparently it's less than 6)
